I don't understand why in the Church of England and Catholic masses we talk about Jesus being the king of Jews....

Surely then if we follow Jesus and his teachings we should be Jewish rather than Catholic or C of E?? Also why in a C of E service do we say "we believe in one holy and Catholic church" during the creed? Surely that is then saying we only believe in the catholic church (yet said during a C of E service)

V. Confused.....

ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 20:12

We are in a Surrey town of about 7000 (next door to Cargirl).

ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 20:13

...but half our congregation is from outside the parish.

confusedaboutreligion · 21/03/2008 20:14

Ok...I am Surrey as well.........can you tell me a town as a guide??! Maybe if you are not to far away I could investigate...

cargirl ditto...whereabouts in Surrey are you???

OP posts:
ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 20:15

Surrey is long and narrow, so not always practical to travel across the county.

I am in the north west corner.

confusedaboutreligion · 21/03/2008 20:16

ok I understand you don't want to say where exactly so I am Epsom.....near/far??!

OP posts:
ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 20:18

Epsom is a long way...

But there is a fab church in Ashtead - I think it is called St George's. It is the biggest Anglican church in the diocese and really excellent.

confusedaboutreligion · 21/03/2008 20:20

AShtead is not far at all......I am going to investigate and let you know..........maybe this was my reason for posting today, to be pointed in the right direction.......

ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 20:21

When I was a student, I lived in Ashtead for a summer (working in Leatherhead), and Epsom was the main place to go shopping.

CarGirl · 21/03/2008 20:23

I'm a bit nearer you than ST (I think) I think my ex husband goes to the same church as ST - you may well know my dd1!!! Had friends that used to go there but have moved away, their dd went to the school over the road from me for her SN.

Confused can you tell us around where you live and we can ask around?

CarGirl · 21/03/2008 20:24

Where is that lovely looking (I think Anglican) church it looks octagonal, sort of a corner I drive past if I go the back way to Ikea Croyden is that Ashtead?

ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 20:25

Seriously, Cargirl?
How old is your DD?

My church is in E, btw.

confusedaboutreligion · 21/03/2008 20:25

I am really amazed that out of all the Mners I end up posting with Surrey Mums who know the area as well as having had a very intelligent, non judgemental chat about religion. For that Ladies, I thank you all for your comments, ideas and thoughts. God bless x

confusedabout - no I don't live in Sutton, Surrey, but I can see why you would think that!

Cargirl, interesting about what you say about "sickness" being less like God created us to be. Some would say perhaps MORE like God created us to be??? Some very sick (ie cancer and the like) people I have met have been closer to God than your average Christian.

ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 20:28

yw, confused. Keep chatting

Cargirl, I think St George's Ashtead's church centre is octagonal.

CarGirl · 21/03/2008 20:28

No the go to the one in central W, can't think what E stands for unless it's where the NCT sale is soon?

ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 20:31

Not in W - five miles to the East of there.

We have loads of W families in our church. The W churches are all quite high, I think, even AS.

CarGirl · 21/03/2008 20:32

MaryBS - I think in body less like we were created originally to be like but I completely agree how you are physically has absolutely no bearing on how you are spiritually, your walk with God etc my CM & friend has a dd with almost severe LD (got to a MLD school by the skin of her teeth) her faith is inspiring because it is so basic and not confused with over though intellect!

But people ask why is there so much sickness and nastiness/cruelty in the world - that is down to sin - it was perfect orginally!

CarGirl · 21/03/2008 20:37

Is it only 5 miles????? Looks further on the map! I've been to their NCT sales too!

I went to the anglican church in Addlestone near St. G with the infant school and I thought it was catholic it is so high church!

The Anglican church in W town square is really spirit filled and going places (for a CofE ) my ex is relatively happy there, although I think we both dream of the non-existent perfect church

ScienceTeacher · 21/03/2008 20:46

Ah, wrong W. I was thinking of the one with the castle. I know the one you mean now. If you follow the River T from where you are (ie from roughly where my DS's go to school ), you will get to my town.

I love all this codework

CarGirl · 21/03/2008 21:04

I was right with my first guess then (I think ) sounds like a lovely brunch meal?
