Malachi Astro is such a beautiful name! Many congratulations @barefootnomadmam

Thank you so much❤️.

I forgot to include a picture in my last post. He is just like me when I was born, except he has DH’s lips🥰

Oh wow, he's gorgeous @barefootnomadmam Huge congratulations to you all. Thank you so much for sharing a pic with us, there's nothing like a snuggly newborn to give you a lift 🥰

Enjoy these precious first few days with him.

Congratulations barefoot he is adorable!

Violet I hope you feel better asap.

Has anyone done any cartomancy? I used to know of a thing where you choose 5 cards, and either more red or more black signalled the outcome you wanted but I can't recall which way round it was!

speakout · 16/11/2022 09:48

EmmaAgain22 no I haven't tried cartomancy, I ted to use Tarot or Oracle cards.
Cartomancy was popular in my village whan I was growing up, my grandmother ( born in 1892) would "read the cards" for other people, many of her friends read them too- they would have card reading evenings which seemed long and complicated. I don't imagine they had access to Tarot cards then, although playing cards and tarot share the same origin.
When DD and I were on holiday recently we played "normal" card games with my Tarot cards as I had forgotten to bring a normal deck.

Many congratulations @barefootnomadmam he is gorgeous! I love the name…but I’m a bit biased😉

We went for another walk today, I’m really enjoying being out in nature at this time of the year. I’m an artist and have got so much inspiration for paintings whilst on our walks. I’m itching to get back into it but it’s quite difficult with a very fussy DS2

Oh, I don't know how to play normal games with tarot cards.

i'm at mum's for a while as she had a fall, so currently in respite care, hoping to bring her home next week. Hanging round the care home all afternoon is oddly tiring.

No idea when I will get back to the flat so can't read my tarot but there is a pack of normal playing cards in the house. For some reason I thought that fashion came from France, I mean regular cards for fortune telling.

Good morning friends, I hope little barefootnomadmam is adjusting to life in the big world.
A cold wet blustery day here, still recovering from Covid, I have been negative for 5 days now, but I am still feeling very tired and a hacking cough.
OH is still testing positive- that's 11 days, and he is still unwell too. Thankfully he can work easily from home, so he has a workstation on a sofa with a fan heater and lots of juice. He is finding the distraction of work helpful.
I look forward to getting well again- I so miss my yoga classes, but not up to that yet. I have been doing daily meditation to ease my mind.
I hope everyone is healing and feeling good.

Mums1234 · 17/11/2022 08:23

@EmmaAgain22 I'm guessing red is favourable because it is generally seen as a positive dynamic colour, whereas black is typically seen as gloomy. I'm completely guessing though.

speakout · 17/11/2022 09:49

Wands=clubs
Pentacles=diamonds
Cups=hearts
Swords=spades.

Leave out the major arcana and the knights and you have a regular 52 card playing deck.
Similarly you can use a normal playing deck for tarot readings.

OP posts:
EmmaAgain22 · 17/11/2022 11:14

Thanks for the card tips
i've just been to the drawer where mum usually keeps the cards and now I need magic to find them as they are not there!

barefootnomadmam · 17/11/2022 14:56

I’m really sorry to hear of all the poorly people, sending healing vibes to you all❤️. I’ve just read back a few pages and the conversation around books and herbalism was so interesting, I’ve screenshot for now but when I have more energy I’ll have a look into the books. I’m currently reading about the history of canal living, which is incredibly interesting and very close to my heart given our lifestyle.

Little one is doing really well and his big sister has been amazing too. I’m tandem feeding the both of them though which has made me so hungry, but DH is making me sausage and mash by the bucket load because it’s the one thing I’m really craving. It’s a strange feeling knowing this is our last baby, when DD was born it felt like the start of something but it’s a really comfortable feeling looking at our 2DC and knowing this is it and looking forward to the future of who they will become. I am sad I won’t have this wonderful stage of newborn bliss again though, although I’m sure in a few days when reality sets in I won’t be saying that😂.

It’s raining very heavily by us, but it sounds so gorgeous on the canal. A wonderful neighbour came over today with a casserole and a cardigan she had knit for the DC. Feeling so grateful for our community.

speakout · 17/11/2022 16:56

barefootnomadmam I am glad things are going well.
I tandem fed too for quite a while- some very precious memories.
If you have time I would highly recommend a Netflix series at the moment- a documentary called Ancient Apocalypse- no violence or gruesomness, a new archeological investigation of human civilisation, with evidence showing humans making temples and pyramid structures long long the accepted timelines.
The first was a temple in Java, second episode in Mexico, just finished watching the third- temples of Malta.
Gijantia temple in Gozo is a very sacred place to me, the oldest goddess temple in the world. Myth has the temple being build by a female giant, dropping rocks, carrying stone while breastfeeding her infant.
A really good watch, especially for those of us interested in Neolithic or Mesolithic archeology.
Has kept my mind busy so I am not focussing on feeling unwell!

Congratulations @barefootnomadmam

Speakout sounds a heck of a long more interesting and light going then the plough through the autumn statement I have just done. Hope you feel better soon.

Right i am off to see if i have any spiced orange sugar hiding in a safe place, i feel my coffee needs pepping up cos i am feeling a tad sluggish now.

hilariousnamehere · 17/11/2022 19:12

Oh congratulations @barefootnomadmam he is absolutely gorgeous! Glad all is going well, you make it sound so idyllic with the boat and the baby 💙

Hugs and healing coming your way @speakout, glad you're testing negative now and hope you make it back to your classes soon.

Everything still manic in my world but someone at a meeting today mentioned her red tent group and I looked it up afterwards while waiting for my business partner to arrive. It's not something I've come across before but it sounds rather lovely and a bit like the women's circles we've talked about before - though not had time to investigate fully as it's been another crazy day! Have any of you had any experience of one?

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 17/11/2022 20:12

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/11/2022 09:48

Forgive me, i am tired and trying to stay off mn as much as possible. Who was it I promised the no-mater sauce to?

It has worked well on/in everything from lasagna to pizza. I did have to tweak it but the tweak was easy and made it so much tastier.

Hi @HillsBesideTheSea it was me 😊 I have been doing the same staying off MN and internet generally as I find it takes a lot of time and energy. I have been looking after my DD who has been home from uni quite unwell with a bad virus. Very unusual as she’s usually very robust but think there are some nasty bugs about now and I’m feeling like I’m coming down with it too but taking echinacea , zinc and vitamin C. I do have some elderberry syrup I made back in April in the fridge but not sure if it is still ok. Does anyone know how long it keeps ? I’ve only previously made tincture of elderberry.
@barefootnomadmam congratulations ! What a gorgeous picture of your precious little one.

Hope everyone who is feeling unwell is soon feeling better

speakout · 18/11/2022 08:08

I hope your LO is on the mend 67TheNeighbourOfTheBeast.
I am not sure how long your syrup will last- maybe depends on the sugar content?
Sounds a lovely thing to do. My grandmother used to make rose hip syrup, and we would take a daily spoonful- I remember it tasting divine.
My father used to make bramble cordial while he was making jam every year- almost like a squash, so we would dilute it with water to drink. Again is was delicious so was consumed very quickly.
Making preserves and syrups from foraged fruit must be a very old tradition, and very sensible too- food was meagre in the winter months, and not much would grow- taking a fruit syrup full of vitamin c would have been beneficial for health.
I am meeting DD today for lunch, she wants to visit costco, and I may nip into IKEA for some candles and smaller things. I usually go in the exit doors in Ikea, which takes me straight into the marketplace, rather than walk endlessly around the furniture department.
This will be my first bigger trip out in two weeks, so I hope I have the energy. At least lunch will be restful.
I have no experience of a red tent hilariousnamehere, I know there are a couple running in my nearest city. I think although originally for menstruating women many run as sacred spaces, and women can attend at any time or phase in their life.
I would love to hear of your experience if you find one.

Elphame · 18/11/2022 11:44

@667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast As long as your elderberry syrup hasn't fermented (and you'll know if it has!) it should be fine. I'm wondering where you had the elderberries from though in April!

@speakout Glad you are testing negative now. I was completely washed out for 3 weeks afterwards though. The cough and tiredness took a long time to clear.

667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast · 18/11/2022 13:01

@Elphame thank you. The Elderberries were dried. I have an Elder tree in my garden but the birds ate them all before I got a chance to pick them! I’ve often wondered how the vitamin C survives boiling when making syrup.

speakout · 18/11/2022 17:27

Elphame thanks for your kind words.
I was out shopping with my DD today- just for a couple of hours, but it was very tiring.
I was even out of breath climbing stairs.
I do feel much improved, but still have a cough and feeling lethargic.
It was so good just to get out- despite the torrential rain.
Seeing my daughter is always a tonic.
Elders are very magical - and lovely plants.
The plant has so many uses- the flowers, berries, magnificent long, often straight branches- I have made elderberry wine several times, working with those dark berries is very grounding. The stems are good for easy wand making.

Welcome,Malachi,to the world. May you bring peace and change.

I am thankfully feeling better - thank you all- and have become heavily involved in the battle to protect women's rights in Scotland. It is like the burning of the witches all over again. My energies are being pulled into this whether I want it or not. Scotland's history of witch burnings is appalling. It seems as if the same erasure of women is happening again. The witches are rising.

VioletCharlotte · 18/11/2022 19:50

Speakout glad you're feeling a bit better and able to get out for a little while. Do take it easy though, it's surprising how long it can takes to fully recover from illness. Maybe try some restorative yin yoga? A gentle stretch might soothe your aching limbs.

@667TheNeighbourOfTheBeast sorry to hear your DD is unwell. I've never made Elderberry syrup, it's one of those things that I always say I'm going to do but never get round to! I hope you're able to ward off the bugs and stay well.

@barefootnomadmam so glad you're all doing well. I loved reading your post, you all sound so cosy, tucked up in your boat. Make the most of these magical days.

@hilariousnamehere I've been a to a couple of red tents, but they organiser has stopped doing them unfortunately. I really enjoyed them, but then I always love spending time in a group of like minded women. There's something very powerful about groups of women coming together 💫

@dementedma I've been reading about what's happening in Scotland with increasing alarm and agree with everything you say. Don't want to attract negativity to out thread, so won't say too much. But yes, women need to rise up and stand up for the rights we've fought hard for.

Apologies to anyone I've missed, I have read all the posts. I love this thread so much, it's such a warm, nurturing space to come back to at the end of the day.
