Any practicing Catholics here?

Any Catholics who practice their faith and would like to chat about Catholic topics? With Ash Wednesday next week we could obviously prepare for Lent.

This isn't the thread for those who are non practicing or who want to critique the Church. Feel free to, but on your own thread, thank you.

@beattieedny I have been wondering lately about the technicalities of children or families growing together in a multi faith household. I had hoped to hear that people of Abrahamic faiths could live together in love and unity so thank you for sharing your experience 💕

Hi all, I've been going to stuff since about Feb/March and am going to be baptized in a month or so hopefully.

How're you all doing?

I could do with getting married now lol but I'm 45.

DenimandLace · 13/11/2022 22:42

Yep, been practicing for years - but still not very good at it. 🙂

OldFan · 13/11/2022 23:09

@DenimandLace 😂 As long as you try. 😂 And repent when you're not very good.😀

Oh that is nice to hear, congratulations!

I have been having classes since the summer I think and really enjoying them. Our priest is youngish and very funny so having a great time!

I chuckled to myself at mass on Sunday as someone was reading Mumsnet in the pews! Made me wonder if it was someone here! 😂

Toddlerteaplease · 21/11/2022 22:33

@yoshiblue I do this if I get there early and am not Altar serving. But as I was at work all day Sunday it wasn't me!!

OldFan · 21/11/2022 22:54

I always think that's kind of bad lol, I have a last look at MN or my Pokemon Go (there's a PokeGym nearby) and lurk outside in the courtyard until the bell tolls. Grin

Any of you after a nice Catholic guy? Seen any potential targets?

OldFan · 21/11/2022 22:55

I've not seen anyone on their phone at mine, but I'm probably usually late.

OldFan · 21/11/2022 22:56

Bad if I were to do it, I mean.

Toddlerteaplease · 23/11/2022 18:21

@OldFan I'm
After a nice catholic guy. But they are all all ready married. Or the awful tweed suited traddy bunch. (Sorry to generalise but they are really not nice people, the ones I've come across!)

I think mine is a gym. I’ve been very good and never put anything in it. It feels wrong.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone one their phone at mine either.

Mother of two nice Catholic guys here. (Well, three, but one’s married). Definitely not “tweed-suited, traddy” 😂. But I suspect distance may be an issue (Australia) ..not to mention their reaction if they discover I’ve been mentioning their availability here. 🤣

Citycentre3 · 26/11/2022 00:28

I am semi practising if that is a thing. I am a sporadic mass goer, I attend a rosary group on occasion and I currently have a Novena on the go.

My faith hovers back and forwards. There are so many people that do not practice ever, but still claim to be Catholic.

I must say I do not agree with this shuffling round of priests . We have just lost our rather lovely priest and I just can't be bothered to build up a rapport with a new one, only for him to be shuffled off in 5 years time too.

ScornedChicken · 27/11/2022 12:15

Catholic here and not joined a thread like this before. Very happy to be here, so hello everyone 👋. I have a young family and go to Mass, it's really important to me. Went to church today and saw the candle for hope being lit.

That's fantastic @ScornedChicken .

Went to church today and saw the candle for hope being lit.

Fab, I'm going later. It's the first year I've been going really, so it's pretty much my first time seeing all of it.

I started not long before the run up to Easter, think that was a blessed time to happen to start.

I should be getting baptised in January. Smile

I am a sporadic mass goer

@Citycentre3 Go on, make it a weekly thing (barring illness etc.) We're told we'll burn in hell otherwise, after all. Grin And it's not much time out of our day considering those stakes. If you go more regularly, you might get more into the faith and get even more out of it.

ScornedChicken · 27/11/2022 14:09

@OldFan thank you 😊

That's wonderful. Good luck!
I agree with you. I tend to be most reflective during Lent and re-evaluate my faith.
Advent I love, it's just such a lovely time.

Citycentre3 · 27/11/2022 17:11

I think like everything else in life religion is a spectrum. I have always wished to be quite balanced in my day to day living. I am Catholic in culture and in thoughts although I don't believe we shall burn in eternity if mass is missed or our faith is tested. At best maybe get a stern ticking off by a cluster of saints and it may take a bit longer to reach the big man himself worse case scenario, but we are a long time dead and we have eternity to reach our final destination so what's the rush? The long route is fine by me if that what it means.

I have seen uber religious people of all faiths swing the pendulum to the opposite end, but I think if you are balanced in thought it is easier to maintain, and that goes with everything in life.

I think there are times we all get down hearted about faith, and that is good to acknowledge. I know I could never be any other faith as it does not sit right with me. I attend a lovely episcopalian play group with my baby, and people are so warm and friendly, I think non Catholic Christian churches are much better with children than Catholic ones, but I have never been tempted to jump ship because ultimately I don't believe in a non Catholic Christian ethos. I just see it as all the good bits of christianity being chopped off no matter what the non Catholic church it is. I look at them and think they are missing out on so much.

OldFan · 27/11/2022 17:48

@Citycentre3 There are mortal sins and there are venial sins. Not going to Mass isn't one of the venial ones, it's one of the mortal ones. We don't make the rules or get to decide them. It's just 45 mins or something out of your week at the end of the day. x

Are you all into Confession? A lot of people seem not to bother but it sounds kind of nice to me (though maybe it'd be embarrassing to tell a man about sexual sin. Grin ) Supposedly it helps us change our behaviour.

I'd love for God to help stop me being such a pig- gluttony is my besetting sin.

@Toddlerteaplease Aren't the trads the most likely to be married? I'd kind of like their (hopefully) wholesomeness. But yes I think a fellow convert/rough diamond is the most likely to be available. There's a guy who looks the part (lots of tattoos like me) but apparently he has a lot of major issues, which wouldn't be what I'm looking for in a husband.

There are a couple of Christian dating sites (not that I've had any luck in even finding a suitable bloke to date so far on Christian Connections.)

Toddlerteaplease · 27/11/2022 18:22

@OldFan no I'm not into confession. I used to go to a particular preset in Lourdes each year. But have jumpers shop to another diocese's pilgrimage so I don't bother any more. And don't really feel the need for it.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/11/2022 18:23

@OldFan not the ones I know. I mentioned once to a bishop friend about the old tire orders creaming off the young vocations. And he pointed out that many of the would never be accept by the diocese's.

OldFan · 27/11/2022 18:33

We're lucky that our local bishop lets our place do its thing. It is beautiful.

Come and have a look when I get baptised if any of you fancy it. I'm in the Midlands. Smile

Toddlerteaplease · 27/11/2022 21:07

@OldFan which bit of the midlands? I'm East Midlands
