Any practicing Catholics here?

Any Catholics who practice their faith and would like to chat about Catholic topics? With Ash Wednesday next week we could obviously prepare for Lent.

This isn't the thread for those who are non practicing or who want to critique the Church. Feel free to, but on your own thread, thank you.

I would really like to visit Lourdes. Apart from Knock, the only 'pilgrimage' I have done is Medjugorje...back when I was a believer in it. Now i think it is probably diabolical.

Hi everyone. Love the thread such a great idea. Haven't been on here in a while Unfortunately I can't go to Mass due to treatment meds, but watch online and lit a candle for Ukraine in quiet empty church.I have been to Fatima as a day tour whilst on holiday. I was really impressed such a beautiful peaceful place, would love to go to Loudness.
I watched the TV footage of tiny premature babies in Ukraine being born whilst hospital being shelled. I just say a decade of the rosary , but I really wish for divine intervention like lightening 🙂 where Putin is concerned ( not very Christian I know!)

FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO SEND PRACTICAL HELP TO UKRAINE

Matt Fradd a well known Australian Catholic you tuber (Pints with Aquinas) who lives in the USA with his wife and 4 children has just arrived in Poland to record and publicize ways we can help. He was invited by a Catholic Priest friend Fr. Jason. There is a group of Greek Catholic nuns who are helping the arriving refugees at the Polish border and need medical supplies. (Refugees at receiving center at the border) m.youtube.com/watch?v=JDU-dSAguGI

Here is Matt’s report with the link in the description which goes to a list of supplies and an address to send them to in Poland. I am in the USA and don’t usually work on a Sunday but I think I will make a run to fill a couple of boxes. Thank you.

The list of supplies and address: please NO food or clothes.

There is also a link if you would prefer to donate. 100% of funds go to help refugees.

Thanks GTB * for useful links and YouTube video 👍

ZenNudist · 12/03/2022 23:34

Thanks GTB. God bless Matt Fradd (have watched him on occasion on ascension presents, he did a great video on the Jesus prayer of the Eastern tradition). God bless Fr Jason and all those volunteering at the borders.

I'm donating to CAFOD's Ukrainian appeal. They are partnered with the DEC. Thanks for the reminder to do this. I already gave to my Ukrainian friend who was fundraising but it's lent and there's a need for so much aid right now.

Just returned to this thread. I managed to catch up on walk with me prayers. That little book you get given in church. Busy last week so was some days behind. Oh dear!

Hello @isittheholidaysyet just seen your message. The last time we spoke things were not too good. Hopefully improving now? Did your new priest settle in nicely? I know there was the usual disruption when you lose a much loved priest.

Anyone ever been to Taize?

Toddlerteaplease · 15/04/2022 02:42

A friend of mine has. He hated it, but I'm not sure why. The choir sang Stay with me at the altar of repose. They really should provide tissues, it has me in bits every year!

AnnesBrokenSlate · 15/04/2022 02:46

I used to go to mass in a convent when I was a teen and your posts about Taize and Stay With Me reminded me of it. I hadn't thought of it for years. It was such a peaceful and holy place.

SenoraMiasma · 15/04/2022 07:44

That’s the sense I get of it - such a peaceful place. I’ve wanted to visit for years.

MaMaLa321 · 16/04/2022 08:56

Hi all, I'm Anglican, but I hope it's Ok if I join in.
I'm lucky enough to live near a cathedral, and worship there. For Lent I have been attending Morning Prayer every day, a lovely short, quiet service.
For the first time in my life I set aside time to attend all the services, throughout Easter Week. And then I tested positive for Covid. I feel very disappointed, as the services I did attend were so beautiful, but I shall have to look forward to next year.
Meanwhile, I aim to carry on going to Morning Prayer.

Celendine · 16/04/2022 11:14

Happy Easter everyone on this thread 🐣, still have to watch celebrations online but this is a lovely time of year. Have a lovely Easter everybody 🥚

beattieedny · 16/04/2022 11:19

Hello Catholics. I'm a jew, but married a Catholic (not practicing one, lol) and wanted to wish you a happy Easter tomorrow. Passover began last night, and afaiu the Last Supper was at passover, so it feels like a lovely connection. We're all God's children. Have a joyful time.
My kids, ofc, will be consuming many chocolate Easter eggs tomorrow, lol, and attending Mass with their grandmother on my husband's side. They're not Catholic as I brought them up with my faith, but I think it's nice to be aware of their mixed heritage. Jesus's mum was a good Jewish mother so that's good enough for me, lol. Much cross - faith love.

SenoraMiasma · 16/04/2022 12:28

@beattieedny

Shalom!

That’s really lovely to read!

Happy Passover to you! (Didn’t we steal all your good ideas anyway?!)

Lovely to hear too of a happy mixed faith family. It has to be the future no?

Thank you! Yes, I think a lot of families have a mixture of cultures and faiths. My aunt married a Muslim man (sadly they divorced, but he's a lovely man) and there is so much cross over in traditions etc. I feel especially fond of RC because it's quite 'theatrical', if that's okay to say! It's vibrant and requires active participation. Of course, all faiths lead to God and, to me anyway, if not all of our faith leaders, lol, that is what is most important.

SenoraMiasma · 16/04/2022 15:20

Gosh@beatieedny

You have no idea how heartened I am to hear that. I have reading up on Judaism (as it is practiced, mostly) as I have always felt that RC leads back to it (as it is it’s roots, no?)

The more I have read, the more I have discovered the blind spot we have in terms of RC history and the historical treatment of the Jewish community.

I hope that when the focus is on genuine faith we can give you back something of which we have taken from you xx

I hope we can resurrect this thread! Happy June and the month of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (i.e.God's infinite and personal love for us).

Well if you read at the beginning of the thread this is for practicing Catholics and we celebrate the Sacred Heart in this month. Pride month is a secular celebration.

So why are you introducing this topic and what do you want to say about it?

Ravenclawdropout · 17/06/2022 04:12

Well I read this is a friendly supportive thread and not a place to interrogate other Catholics.

Ravenclawdropout · 17/06/2022 04:15

This is a quote from the original post

"This isn't the thread for those who are non practicing or who want to critique the Church. Feel free to, but on your own thread, thank you."

So if you want to question other Catholics on this topic you should do so on your own thread.
