Do you really think the cot could have been the wind? I can barely move our cot and I'm quite strong - I cannot conceive of a wind that wouldn't be mentioned on the local news that would move it!

fortyplus · 01/11/2007 17:19

Nothing much to add, other than ds1 was a very early talker (odd words at about a year and sentences at 18 months). When he was less than 2 years old he woke - absolutely hysterical - in the night. When I asked him what was wrong he said 'Lady with no eyes chasing me down Grandma's road!'

So that was clearly a vivid dream - nothing more. How would a 2 year old child think of someone with no eyes and why would it be frightening? Not to mention how would the 'lady' chase him without falling over!

I suppose the point I'm making is that I think very young children are capable of greater imagination/flights of fancy than we realise.

LL, I really don't blame you

(How are things at school?)

nappiesLaGore · 01/11/2007 17:26

what was hunkers advice? was it on the knickers in lunchbox thread?

fwiw, i think youre taking the right approach. hope ds gets a good nights sleep and manages to conquer whatever is bothering him.

Hallowedam · 01/11/2007 18:15

The cot is spooky. Am sure you are taking the right approach - hope things calm down. If not, I'd try the Rabbi/vicar on the grounds that it can't do any harm and might just possibly help.

mistlethrush · 01/11/2007 20:37

We were having problems with 'monsters coming' (ds 2.5) - this was so real to ds that he was scared to go to bed. Normal approaches - 'mummy's here, you're OK...' etc no good. So I introduced Freddie the friendly monster. Immediately Freddie was joined by Jessie Monster - they are friendly monsters that will chase any nasty monsters away. The other day in the park 'the fox is coming' (long story, friend's dog attacked by a fox) panic - we proceeded through the park without any problem with me holding one hand and Freddie holding the other - Jessie was sitting in the buggy holding Baby Jack's (also imaginary) hand... So imagination can also be used in a positive way! Hope that you can sort your problems out in a similar way (still spooked by the cot though)

It's odd how this has been going on for a while at a steady pace, then suddenly lots has happened in the last few days? If you're looking at the spirit side I suppose you could blame Halloween, thinner veil between this world and the spirit world apparantly or are people more suggestable? Was the window open when your nanny went back in and found the cot tipped over? Has the cot tipped over before?

A friend of mine is a channeller. I have to say that I take it with a bit of a pinch of salt but plenty of others swear by her and I have to admit that some of the things she 'knows' about her clients lives are pretty convincing. She reckons she inherited her gift from her granny. And she also reckons that her DD (9) has inherited it in turn. When her DD was about 18months old she saw an old man in their sitting room and she sat and chatted to him for a while. Now if that had been me I'd have freaked but her mum just accepted that it was normal. So if it is a spirit presence, you LO might be more open to it than adults.

Dinosaur · 02/11/2007 15:23

The Shining was on ITV4 last night - couldn't resist watching the first 45 minutes!

3littlesparklers · 02/11/2007 16:03

We had lots of spirits in our house. There was one particular very unpleasant one in dd's bedroom. He was frightening her and he was stopping her from coming to find me in the night. Only when she was 2 and talking clearly was she able to tell me enough about him for me to realise how bad it was and I got a medium to cleanse the house. I don't want to say too much more here, but dd was absolutely correct in what she was saying, I saw the "man", and I am very glad I took action.

I could say a lot more, but don't want to go into it here.

I remember lulumama's situation - I was one of the people who advised getting someone in to cleanse. I am glad it all worked out lulumama.

3littlesparklers · 02/11/2007 16:04

Meant to say - dd is a channeller, but we have taught her how to shut down.

Lulumama · 02/11/2007 16:19

thanks 3littlesparklers.. it is all fine

llareggub · 02/11/2007 19:06

3littlesparklers, you have sparked my curiousity now

HonoriaGlossop · 02/11/2007 19:45

I really can't see any other than a natural everyday reason for all this. Your ds is using his imagination and he is fixing all his fears on the idea of this doggie; it's very common for kids to do this.

Things like the nanny asking him about it and taking him to show her the cupboard and asking about it when looking at toy dogs will only be whipping it up and feeding it. i can't see what is odd, at all, about the 'bump' and the cry; a 2 yr old was playing alone, obviously he fell or banged himself!

I was not in the house so I am not going to say I know what causes a cot to tip over; however from your posts it's clear you have some children. Children are well known for making things tip over.....

I think you need to approach it as utterly completely part of the real world. until given clear in front of your eyes proof otherwise, why on earth do anything else?

Thanks for posting the update, lisalisa.

My DS3 (aged 3) still has his cot in his bedroom although he sleeps in a bed now.

He can move it quite a long way across the floor.

Do you think that perhaps your DS tipped his cot over??? I just wondered if that was a possibility.

ajandjjmum · 05/11/2007 16:32

Dh used to feel hands touching him in the night, and for a long time struggled to sleep.

It was years later that his two older sister admitted that they used to lie under his bed to scare him.

Not exactly relevant - but it still makes me smile!

Hope you get this sort ll.

sparkybabe · 05/11/2007 20:04

Lisa - just wanted to add - some people think that young kids are closer to their previous life (as in reincarnation) and can remember some of it. My brother used to freak mum out by saying (when he was really really young) 'i used to have one of those cars when I was old', about any old Anglias he saw (this was the 1960's). But then mum believes in all that stuff anyway. I don't, but I think there are a lot of things that can't be explained by science.

3Ddonut · 06/11/2007 11:52

ajandjjmum..your poor dh! Sparkybabe, my dh used to say stuff like that to his Mum when he was little too, he used to tell her that he worked in the park! He's considered regression therapy?!!!
