Hi Beautiful3

Scroll up the thread to my post a few days ago, it explains our 8's.

We have an awful lot of combined knowledge on these threads, and an awful lot of answers to questions our new people like to ask. Perhaps you'd like to have a look through them or binge them like a box-set, all the links are on the first post of this thread Halloween Smile

Hello lovelies, just catching up on all the posts from the last few days. I've been away for a couple of days and decided to give myself a little break from social media. I've had a wonderful few days in Weymouth with some female friends. I can't tell you how nice it was to be in the company of women, I think well felt the same as we didn't stop talking and laughing! I even went for a swim in the sea every morning! The water was freezing, but I felt so energised and ready for the day.

Blanktimes belatedly sending you birthday wishes. Hope you had a lovely day. I'm a Libra too 😊

Too many posts to reply to them all individually, but I've enjoyed reading them all. Welcome to put newcomers

speakout · 12/10/2020 20:11

VioletCharlotte that sounds amazing.
How lovely you had a water swim, I know Yashmis loves wild swimming too.
I am not hardy enough we are into morning frosts now, and the North sea is only 5 degrees right now. I am envious of you people living in milder temperatures.

Just having an evening settle- a cup of herbal tea before an early snuggle down.

@VioletCharlotte and @speakout sea swimming that’s my idea of torture, with my fibromyalgia and Raynauds I feel the cold so so much, I don’t even go in the sea in holiday when it’s 30 odd degrees Blush I’m constantly cold and fleece is my best friend lol. I’m in awe of the two of you. I think we are having a drive to the sea side tomorrow though with the dog

speakout · 12/10/2020 20:49

sweetkitty I struggle with cold too- I couldn't swim in 5 degrees.I am usually wearing fluffy warm clothes. I have a touch of Raynaud's too, poorly understood when I was a child- my mother would get me a hot water bottle to warm up my icy hands- and lead to so much itchiness and swelling. My DD has it to, but I learned that a pack of frozen peas is a better cure to prevent discomfort and allow slow warming!

I'd like to say a huge thank-you to everyone for all your wonderful wishes, my day was a lovely one, I haven't felt that relaxed in a very long time, bliss.

All of the wild water swimming tales has me so envious, if I could swim I may actually have go Halloween Wink
I meant to say that one of the photos Yashmis posted about her wild water swim looked to me as though it was a place where two rivers met. In our ancient history, these places were revered because where the energies of two water sources meet and meld, it's incredibly powerful. Avoca in Ireland is one such place and the people there have made a stepped walkway into the place where both rivers actually meet. You can kneel at the edge and touch that point, I thought that was a blast - literally - but it must be amazing to actually swim at that spot.

I'm not too bad with the cold but DD has CFS and struggles at the best of times. we know it must be a heatwave if she's not wearing bedsocks. For a long lasting source of warmth, she finds the round pet hot 'water' bottles are the best, they give off a gentle heat all night and are not cold in the morning and they last for years. We have these www.amazon.co.uk/SnuggleSafe-Microwave-Wireless-Heatpad-Fleece/dp/B0014LJKUA/ref=sr_1_1?For&tag=mumsnetforu03-21 her that more than compensates for their rigid casing. the Hotties ones always split after a while, but so far we've had several years out of these. We both love fleece, the plain sort tends to attract cat hair but the plush type doesn't. We have throws and she has slankets and a huggie top which is like a huge hoodie lined with sherpa fleece and fleece dressing gowns. Thick bedsocks are must and I've found the Joules own brand outlet store on ebay www.ebay.co.uk/str/joulesofficial has often got their 'homestead' slippers that are like fur lined fleecy boots with a strong sole available at a good saving.

Teddy Fleece bedding is very popular at the moment too.

I'd better fly away, if I get any more cosy talking about snuggly warm things I'll nod off!

VioletCharlotte · 13/10/2020 10:32

Blanktimes lots of great suggestions for keeping warm and cosy. I'll have a look at those hot bottles, I like a hot water bottle but they're not very nice on the morning when they're cold! It's lovely to read about how you nurture your daughter and keep her snug.

Sweetkitty my friends has Raynauds, so I understand your dislike of cold water and the cold weather. Her hands go white and so stiff, poor thing. This is the first time I've swam in the sea when it's not been the height of summer and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it! One of the friends I was with lives by the sea and swims every morning, she says it's addictive and I can see why. It gives you an incredible buzz. Not sure I could do it when it's really cold though, she's much more hardy than I am!

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/10/2020 10:34

I had a great grandfather who used to cut the ice to go swimming in the sea. If people asked if it was cold (-10) he would say it was warmer than yesterday. I actively seek out the cold, which is problematic because i also have reynard, and cfs and fibro. Yesterday I was wearing wool socks and didn't put my jumper on until 3pm and that was only because it was raining heavily. There is something about the cold that soothes the soul. We grew up in a house where when you came in from the cold you ran your hands under the cold tap until it felt cold and then mum would rub our hands dry in a towel. These days I make sure that i wear wool gloves and wool socks whilst I am enjoying the cold of the day. Cold at night? All bets are off I have 3 hot water bottles a 10.5 tog and a 13.5 tog duvet. I feel the cold at night and sleep better when warm so my family tease me about that.

We had our first proper frost this morning, unfortunately i was in too much of a hurry to enjoy it. I really want snow this year. a proper amount. Enough so that most people stay tucked up in the warm and I can go for a long long walk without having to bump into too many people. I like my water frozen, I am really really not a fan of it in vast bodies of liquid state. I am real hopeful that we have enough snow of the right sort to make snow lanterns. I am lucky that i enjoy all the seasons, and only really struggle with the heat when it comes in great swings between two temps. Although nettle tea has improved my ability to cope with this.

I have a hospital appointment latter this week so had the pre-requistic covid test this morning. It has thrown me all levels off sorts. So taking a moment to enjoy the quiet and sit with a coffee and a candle. Still trying to quieten a mind that is responsible for too much and thus has a tendancy to race. It has been harder work then normal during covid. But i ordered a lunar diary this year and it has all sort of interesting art work and astrological data in it so it is nice to flip through and look at all the opportunities to stare at the night sky. And at the moment that helps.

HillsBesideTheSea · 13/10/2020 10:37

violet you condition to it. So give it time and you may well find that you are swimming when it is properly cold without thinking about it Grin The buzz of the cold is amazing and there has been some interesting research on the health benefits of it. Some take ice baths at the height of summer and call it polar plunging so that they can get the health benefits they feel are possible from it.

rivierliedje · 13/10/2020 10:41

I love sea swimming and also have Rynauds. As a child I used to go into the water until my lips turned blue and my parents stopped me going in again. Now I love to swim still, even in the cold, even in the waters of Shetland (always freezing as so far North!). The important thing is to know your limits, I'll often only swim for a few lengths and to bring warm jumpers, socks and a flask of tea for immediately afterwards. Or wear a wetsuit (with wetsuit gloves/socks/hat). Or both.
My Raynaud's is actually worst when it is quite warm out, the difference between temperatures makes it worse. I often get dead white toes and fingers in the winter anyway and if it is really bad get hives from the cold up my legs and arms. But the sea swimming is good for circulation and I love it, so it is worth it.
I should go again soon really, we've been having some lovely days. Sitting in the garden in lots of warm jumpers, soaking up the autumn sun has been wonderful.
Yesterday it was a day for venturing out, so went up a mountain and for a romp through the woods at dusk. Splendidly refreshing.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 13/10/2020 15:05

Chilly here today but it was really rather nice - took my horse out and we sploshed through the dripping woods after all yesterday's rain. So many of the oaks are edged with yellow and gold now so Autumn is well and truly here.

One of the many things I love about this time of year is how some trees change colour; it's almost like the sunlight has fallen on them and changed the leaves from green, through yellow to the deepest red.

A lovely bracing refreshing walk along the beach for me today, do lovely to see the waves. Definitely no swimming though Grin only downside was afterwards on the journey home I had a migraine and had to go to bed for 2 hours when I got home. Still feel pretty tired and out of it.

Lovely evening wishes to you all x

Delphinium20 · 15/10/2020 04:53

Hello all! It's been bit since I posted but I do check in and read here and there- - so nice to see you all here!
@HillsBesideTheSea @rivierliedje I don't live near the sea but do miss swimming in cold water-I had a bit of that this summer and it was glorious. I am impressed you both stick with it despite health conditions.

@BrightYellowDaffodil I went on a cold walk last night because it had that windy, crisp sensation I love this time of year. And yes, the fall colors!

@Qwom welcome! Like you, I'm solitary and have been for years, but my family has some hereditary traditions I still connect with.

speakout · 15/10/2020 07:06

Delphinium20 good to see you, I hope you are enjoying this autum weather.
Light levels are dropping now, I have bought another couple of lamps for my house to add some cheer to darker areas. I need to ger mt roof looked at too, I have a small leak which is only evident in very severe downpours, but I have to get it checked.

My neighbour has torn down the lovely hedgerow and fence that separates our properties ( both in his garden) and is in the process of building a new fence. So I have workmen stomping all over my garden with powertools and loud voices.
I don't do well with intrusions into my space, I know it will only be for a day or two, but I have my curtains firmly shut at the back of my house.
I am making some Aphrodite Rose Tin candles this morning as a distraction!

Good morning all . Welcome @Qwom and @BrightYellowDaffodil .
It’s a wet morning here and my boots are leaking ! Just back from walking the dog with wet feet so on the hunt for a new pair today ,
these have been repaired a few times already . I do get attached to things and don’t like to part with them ! Is anyone else like that ?
There is a new moon tomorrow and I was wondering how others use this time . Are there any spells particularly good for this time ? Being a newbie I’d love to hear about it . I understand it as being a time to focus on things that you would like to expand on or grow .
Off to put the kettle on and will light my candle for anyone who needs good wishes Sending or healing today 🙂

Elasticatedwaist · 15/10/2020 07:45

@speakout , funny that you also have a leak . Well not funny , I should say odd .
I have had a leak under the bath last week and then the radiator yesterday , now my boots ! What on earth is all this leaking ! ? 🤨

speakout · 15/10/2020 07:50

Elasticatedwaist

Yes I certainly have boots ike that!!

THe new moon is a very special energy, isn't it. A time of growth and new beginnings, fresh starts, but I also see the new moon as a time to tend to our fragile places. Like a new shoot or the first stirrings, a time of love and nurture, to kindle projects, to love ourselves and others and treat vulnerabilities softly.
Plenty time for the strident energies as the waxing moon grows.
Tonight is a dark moon so anyone needing to plunge into the depths or shadow work will find an underground home tonight.

Your post made me smile! I'm exactly the same. I've got a pair of calf length, burgundy boots that I've had for years and I LOVE them. However they're rather battered and well past their best, but I keep putting off replacing them as they're so comfy.

I love new moon energy too. The start of a new cycle, full of possibility. I was lucky enough to be part of a beautiful woman's ceremony last night, so feeling very calm and connected his morning. Full moon in Libra is all about balance and harmony, which is very much needed in the world at the moment!

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/10/2020 12:44

A sad day today as a friend is not going to be with us much longer. I’ve asked that his passing is as peaceful and painless as possible, and that his partner’s pain is comforted but we’re just waiting for the final news now. We thought there was hope for his condition but it seems that all that is left is, in the words of Auden, “with muffled drums...let the mourners come”.

VioletCharlotte · 15/10/2020 13:15

Brightyellowdaffodil
I'm so sorry. I will light a candle for you, your friend and their loved ones, and dedicate my 8pm connection to them 🙏

BrightYellowDaffodil · 15/10/2020 16:10

@VioletCharlotte thank you, that's very kind of you. I'm keeping the candles going that I've lit for him to try and ease his passing, and for his partner to try and bring comfort. It's all rather a shock so I'm spending this afternoon curled up with some healing crystal music.

Another wet day here, a week of torrential rain.
I hope this new moon brings some fresh energy and renewed hope as we move deeper into the Autumn season.
My thoughts are turning to Samhain which will deliver this new moon into a full one, it will be quite a different festival for many of us this year, a year of chaos and change.
But this new moon should bring some balance, at least for a while.
I will start to decorate for Samhain soon, tweak my besom as she is allowed some public light at this time, the socially acceptable season for pagan tools. I also have an autumn wreath to display, and will stock up on candles for the coming season.
Not sure of my plans for the weekend, seems they will be made on he hoof as they often are.
New moon blessings sisters
