Can I add here please - my granddad is in hospital, he doesn't recognise my dad, my dad hardly recognised him. It could go either way but they have signed a DNR.

SaintGeorge · 17/09/2007 18:54

Oh Flamey, so sorry.

Sending healing thoughts and wishes. xx

Sending vibes for you all, Flame.

Can I ask vibes for my bil? He has serious issues with alcohol and totally flipped at a family party at the weekend - we suspect he may have something like manic depression. He hasn't been seen since Saturday night.

Flamesparrow · 18/09/2007 13:30

Thinking of you too STT

Update from hospital is that he had a fair night, but no change. I don't know what has happened since Drs rounds etc.

ZipadiSuzy · 18/09/2007 13:34

'Vibes' for all who need it

Flamesparrow · 18/09/2007 18:49

Breathing easier, more comfortable but still no idea of long term prognosis.

Is it bad that part of me just wants him to stop suffering?

startouchedtrinity · 18/09/2007 19:45

Flame of course it isn't bad, it's want we all want, the avoidance of suffering for our loved ones.

Better news here, so thanks for the thoughts and vibes. Bil spoke to dh on the phone, he has acknowledged he has a problem and says he will get help. Personally I think this is more likely to be more complex than a straightforward addiction. I'm hoping he gets the right help soon, and that fil and others are understanding.

Flamesparrow · 20/09/2007 14:09

Granddad is about the same - no update really. His other eye has gone cloudy so they think he has probably had a stroke and lost the sight from that one now too. He isn't responding when my dad asks him to squeeze his hand etc so we don't know if he has lost his hearing completely now or just can't/won't squeeze.

Flamesparrow · 24/09/2007 15:25

Apparently the minister is there now... this can't be good

SaintGeorge · 24/09/2007 16:36

Strength Flamey.

Hearing is the last to go, so tell your dad to keep talking to him.

You know where I am if you need a chat.

xx

Flamesparrow · 24/09/2007 16:41

Thanks

The minister was just the friend of the family who has known him for years, not a last rites kind of visit as such.

They met with the doctors today, and have decided to stop his antibiotics. It is the right decision - he will have painkillers, but that is it.

On top of that they have found my gran's diaries (kept every day all her life), and it turns out that all the bitter and venom that she put across whilst she was alive, she poured into those. They are being destroyed so that she can cause no more pain.

SaintGeorge · 24/09/2007 16:46

A good burning I hope, sounds like they are fit for nothing else.

Flamesparrow · 24/09/2007 17:17

Yup (or ) - we're all wondering if the bloody things will actually light though!

SaintGeorge · 24/09/2007 18:18

Liquid BBQ fuel - wonderful stuff

fransmom · 25/09/2007 21:43

flamey am sorry to hear about your grandad, how are things tonight sweetheart? i felt elated at the thought that my mom wouldn't be suffering anymore, it is a completely natural feeling to have and as stt says, it is what we all want for our relatives.
(((((((((((((flame))))))))))))))))))

stt, hope things work out for your bil.
