Insight 1 - the celestine prophesy

Papillon · 22/09/2004 08:33

Hi everyone

All are welcome to join us discussing The Celestine Prophesy by James Redfield

So the first insight is:

Coincidence - A Critical Mass

A new spiritual awakening is occurring in human culture, an awakening brought about by a critical mass of individuals who experience their lives as a spiritual unfolding, a journey in which we are led forward by mysterious coincidences.

Some ideas/concepts to consider are:

How have coincidences affected your life? Any experiences?
How do you understand the insight - do you have any perceptions to share?

This might be enough to get us started... Anyone can post some exercises or inspirations etc and I will also post some more info later

I have posted this quote before but decided to show it again as we are embark on new conversations about the Celestine Prophesies:

Conversation is a meeting of minds with different memories and habits. When minds meet, they don't just exchange facts: they transform them, reshape them, draw different implications from them, engage in new trains of thought. Conversation doesn't just reshuffle the cards: it creates new cards.

I love that quote about conversations paps - that's definitely how I feel after coming on here and talking about the stuff we have.

I've found that when I'm more aware of coincidences more of them happen - and its definitely not just down to me noticing them more, although I obviously do notice them more easily. But I think its also down to a 'willingness' to accept things that are out of the ordinary and do things based on yourself rather than convention, which opens you up to 'good' things happening, and most coincidences seem to be for the better rather than being bad things.

Will write more later but don't want to start off with an essay and want to see what everyone else thinks.

glitterfairy · 22/09/2004 10:56

Paps I love that quotation and will use it if you dont mind over the next few days in Ireland.

WK you are so right and the more open we are to the coincidences the more they seem to occur. A stranger on a train struck up a chat with me the other day after I had tried the smile at a stranger stuff and he told me I looked like a woman who would listen to Leonard Cohen. I had never heard of him but he turns out to be one of muggles fave singers and so we have a new conversation now about that.

It is a little like not just coincidences for me but looking for connections. We sometimes ignore the coincidence because we dont make the connection. Once we start making more and more connections it seems like we are more and more connected to each other if that makes sense at all.

Papillon · 22/09/2004 14:37

Think it is good to mix in some of the philosophy as well as the spiritual. Zeldins theories about life I find quite amazing. I think afew of you know this site but perhaps also gaining some insight into your birth chart may be of assistance.

OP posts:
melsy · 22/09/2004 15:03

Another ponder ;Do the coincidences make you make different decisions or do the coincidnces back up your decisions??? . I deffinately think they feed of of each other and if several of us are uniting Im sure universal energy is making the connection happen more.Isnt there apart in one of the books thats states you need to allow them in and open uo to their possibilites? So by reading the 1st chapter you have just opened up a channel that was always there ready to accept.

Great to start it again , having had a bit of a dark few weeks. I was blocked to starting again and im not sure why, but suddnely I see that it was neccessary to my learning. Thankyou paps x

gothicmama · 22/09/2004 20:16

Coincidences when you are aware of them or reflect on things that happen make connections which then makes you aware of other coincidences which lead on to other connections, but it is only when yo are aware or the time is right that you can fully appreciate teh coincidence which may have been a small impact on your life or a huge one that a number of other actions were building upto.

glitterfairy · 22/09/2004 20:47

Melsy that is a good question. I am not sure abit of both I agree.

GM good to see you.

At the moment the only thing I am doing is becoming more aware adn paps you are right it is good to mix in some philosphy.

gothicmama · 22/09/2004 20:57

Hi Gf
Melsy I think both because once you are aware then coincidences can help guide you or you follow teh connections made

sibble · 22/09/2004 21:54

hi all, havn't been able to post but have been following threads.good to see new posters and it's
good for me to start from scratch again as having new baby brings such complete changes it's hard to focus and put things into perspective. am sure this will help me focus and get back on track. it's also good for me as i have been thinking alot about the later insights and relationships with parents especially, getting rid of old demons to minimise 'damage' to new babe....

i know i am where i am today through a series of coincidences, some i have been aware of and some have just happened and i have only been aware after the event.
e.g. my last job - I moved to NZ, sister gave me phone number of old uni friend living in NZ, we met, turned out she is an ex-nurse working in research, a month later she phoned to say they were desperate for a trainer and study manager, was i interested, could choose own hours etc Came exactly at right time)....when i started everybody said 1 'girl' was 'a bit difficult', turned out we had worked on same trial 10 years before, her in Oz, me in UK and we are now good friends, she has since moved on but i know she has a further part to play at some stage with my career but not just yet....
could go on, meeting dh was a coincidence...
on another note i lent 'the prophecies' to a friend a little while ago not sure what she would think of it (or me) and she called to say thanks, it came at the right time, she was having some issues and the book helped put things into perspective.....

lastly (can't believe DS2 is letting me post) i think we are seeing an increasing awareness, with more people being spiritually aware or open, i used to be thought different but now, even if people are not on the same wavelength they usually show an understanding... does that make sense.

on that note time to make popcorn ds1 says - off to garfield the movie, lets hope babe sleeps!!!

woodstock · 22/09/2004 22:04

I first read this book years ago at a time when I was starting to really examine my spiritual needs and feeling that I did need to leave the tradition that I had been brought up in to find something that served me better.
Being open to coincidences since then has brought me to a wonderful little town filled with like-minded people.

I love the thought of connections. The Buddhists use the word "inter-being" to describe a sense of being connected to every other being. Remembering that helps to keep me grounded and keeps my sense of perspective, although I have to constantly remind myself as it is too easy to forget on some days!

Papillon · 23/09/2004 10:26

I wonder if people are interested in thinking more about Melsy question:

Do the coincidences make you make different decisions or do the coincidnces back up your decisions?

I agree Gmama that awareness is important and to reflect on things as a way to guide or follow the connections being made

But how do we get aware? Or stay aware so that coincidences occur in our lifes...
Woodstock you mentioned the concept inter-being which helps you remain connected. Sibble you said that sometimes you have been aware of them as they occured and some have just happened after the event.

The experiential book mentions that Inutituion is our inner source of perception and suggests that we notice what internal cues arise in different situations. Feelings, loss of energy, heightened energy, irritation, happiness etc... from seeing hearing, touch etc. So listening to your body can increase benefits.

The book says that what you pay attention to expands so if we pay attention to our feeling in our environment and with others - we may notice the 1st insight at work.

Does anyone want to try this and give feedback to see what we experience?

....

Hi Woodstock and welcome

As Sibble said nice to see some new people coming and sharing their insights. Some of us have been talking now for around 8 months and so have gotten to know each other quite well. While that does make us seem to be a tight group we all always happy to see new posters.

Grr...why do I keep on reading this thread when it's still morning? I need to think to post on this, and I can't think before 2pm!

Papillon · 23/09/2004 10:51

before 2pm WOW - well you could always try being aware or reflect as to why that happens

look forward to hearing from you later once you wake up!!

Just to throw some more into the mix Ive just bought today a new book by Deepak Chopra called SYNCRO DESTINY it just screamed out at me and I had to get it. It states on the back :

"Deepak ...,shows how coincidences are messages about the miraculous potential of each moment. He reveals how, through understanding the forces that shape coincidences, you can learn to live at a deeper level and access the flow of synchroncity that lies at the heart of existence. You can start to transform your life thourgh full-contact living, in which all things will be within your reach.

I am quite excited as also bought James Redfields new book GOD and the evolving universe , funny as paps & wobbly and I were having aphilosophical thie morn on mSN , and i mentioned NEALE DONALD WALSCHE books conversations with GOD series convos with god website Which are amazing and beaitiful books, nit ata ll religious as perceived by the title. So a great way to lift my energy anew this week after my slump with a great coincidence with Redfields latest is book also titled with GOD.

melsy · 23/09/2004 19:27

soz just had to qoute from 1st page ;

"they are the shooting stars of everday life"

I think its important to note the themes that are reoccuring with different philosophers , (for wnat of better term),
is it coincidnece that the themes are flowing through each authors books or is it critcal mass in the making?? Universal energy is reinfocrcing what we can loook at in out our every day lives to make them amazing as they are. Its just becoming more aware.

glitterfairy · 23/09/2004 20:08

Hi everyone. Have been teaching all day and thinking on this but am really starting to try to make myself more aware and it is harder than I ever thought at first.

I still think paps that melsys question has two answers abit of both. It is great who much I have learnt though from reading this thread alone.

MTS · 23/09/2004 20:28

Hi all - just been pondering coincidences and the first insight - what comes to my mind is whether as well as thinking about synchronicity, the first insight also relates to us making the most of opportunities, and being open to events

wobblyknicks · 24/09/2004 08:36

Think the answer to melsy's question is definitely a bit of both. Being aware of coincidences does change the way you make decisions and because you've changed those decisions, the coincidences continue on to back them up, so ideally you'd get into a continuous cycle - iykwim.

It reminds me of the 'Butterfly Effect' - the theory that a butterfly's wing flapping over the Atlantic could cause a tsunami to hit Tokyo. So everything is connected, however minutely, and the smallest change can have a huge effect later. To me, coincidences seem to be 'markers' of those connections - so if you follow the coincidences you carry on the chain of events in your life which will result in a huge result for you. Like mts said, you have to be open to those coincidences otherwise you miss the marker showing you which way to go, and the chain gets broken, so you don't receive the result.

Hope that didn't sound too waffly!!

Papillon · 24/09/2004 09:08

The butterfly analogy is beautiful WK

Melsy and of course everyone else here are some links as per what Melsy just posted

Deepak Chopra

Internet radio for the mind body and spirit

I agree also that taking opportunities is important. It is hard though, as you were saying Glitter. I find it also that way. eg.. I meet someone on a train and we start talking. We are both from the same country and he mentions that his company works with a company in the town, in the country where I live. Does this mean something? How to extract / uncover the meaning of the moment is not easily done. Still I feel that going with the flow, while maintaining attention to a situation is a good start and manifestation can occur like building blocks of time.

OP posts:
Papillon · 24/09/2004 09:33

Some more Zeldin stuff... he has looked at the internet and how that may or maynot shape our lives... it is interesting to watch how coincidence can occur on the internet and not just in RL. Especially how we can all come together here on MN and the story / journey some of us have had together.

I really like some of what he has to say about technology and conversation...

We have got to clarify what it is that we want more profoundly, and how we can get all the accidental meetings of our lives to contribute to our search for fulfilment.

Well, one has to begin in some way. A meeting, a conversation, is not just two people bumping into each other. A lot of effort, of preparation, of thought is needed, and there are further obstacles we have not yet mentioned. We have talked about the obstacles of nationality, language, gender, and so on. There is also the obstacle of profession.

The trouble with professional knowledge is that it does not normally focus your attention on the ultimate purpose of life.

One of the great challenges of the twenty-first century is to reinvent work and the professions.Too often they narrow our outlook and use up much of our energy in frustration. We have to find ways of making work contribute to the enhancement of our being, instead of being an intellectually or morally damaging, a servitude we have to endure. Most people are part-time slaves. They do jobs which do not make them better people or the people they could be. Changing that will not create a perfect world, but it is a liberation we cannot avoid desiring. We have to ask technology to assist us. Web sites which simply sell more products are not enough.

e-texts - Zeldin etc...

Hi all,
Sorry I haven't been around much but I've been studying for a course through Church and that took up a lot of time.

Hope you're all well today. The weather is crisp and bright here

Melsy, sorry about the mix up that time, I did the unticking! how's u?

I was looking through the experimental guide to CP and read the part concerned with work. When I took my only real job which lasted 14 years I was warned by another hairstylist that it was a bad move. I wish I'd listened to her as it was an awful job and the boss was v manipulative. It wasn't a good place to work but tbh I didn't get much guidance from my parents re: education and work so just drifted into it. I almost left to join the RAF, got accepted but my bf at the time diswayed me. Glad he did now as I wouldn't have met DH and the RAF move didn't 'feel' right.

Lately I've been mulling over a career move and what to study for? Instead of rushing in I've waited and feel I know now.

wobblyknicks · 25/09/2004 08:39

Was reading something by Deepak Chopra (biog ) this morning and read a really good analogy that applies to the CP. He talks about having a calm mind and concetrating on an intention rather than rushing into action, which is part of what CP talks about.

The analogy he uses is that if you throw a pebble (of intention) into the still pond (of your mind) then it will create ripples that will move through time and space. But if your mind is like a stormy sea you could throw a skyscraper into it and it would make no difference.

IMO that relates to coincidences - if you're 'calm' and open to see them, you don't necessarily need to see every one or recognise it properly, as just your state of mind will work wonders whereas if your state of mind isn't open to recieve them then nothing will make any difference.

He also talks about 'flows', like the flow of energy, of love, of giving etc, being like blood flow. If you keep the flow going, ie you give love, give gifts, give energy then just as with blood flow, more will come to you and the faster you give away, the faster you'll recieve, so it can never 'run out'. Whereas if you shut yourself off - stop giving, stop loving, stop your positive energy, then you end up with a blood clot which will eventually be lethal if you don't shift it.

Hope that wasn't too waffly - basically meaning that getting your energy going and focusing on what you want doesn't just make you feel better, it gets huge results.

wobblyknicks · 25/09/2004 09:01

WOW - yet another coincidence, I just started rereading this thread and when I wrote my post I hadn't remembered melsy had mentioned Deepak Chopra before!! Ok, it was only 2 days ago but that's a long time to me atm, every day seems like a century!! Melsy - have you read The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success - thats where I got my analogy from, and its an excellent book.

melsy · 25/09/2004 13:20

wow see , we have synchrodestiny in action right here. I have that book wobbly along with several others , he is avery very inspiring and uplifting writer.

woodstock · 25/09/2004 13:36

I've been away from this thread too long! What a great discussion you've been having.

I have found that sometimes it helps me to focus on my intention to then notice the coincidences that follow. This, of course, is easier said than done. Too often I fall into the "monkey mind" syndrome where my thoughts are just too busy.

I also love the idea of flow. I feel that it is so important. People sometimes think I am crazy, but in moments of financial difficulty one of the best things to do IMO is to donate to my favorite charity. It seems to "unstick" the problem.

melsy · 25/09/2004 13:57

HIya woodstock , I think Neale donald walche states that as tithing, saying that if you give away a little of your stuff , then the universe sees that as abundance and it comes back full circle. BUT it has to be done with pure benevolence. Its something I grapple with as a little concious part is hopig the universe will see the good deed and give back !!!
