Healing crystals

Was curious where everyone gets their healing crystals from. Don’t want to end up buying anything fake!

Don’t want to end up buying anything fake! Very good :-)

You need to buy from a reputable charlatan. Go to a specialist- some snake oil firms do healing water, waving hands over you, ear candling, cold reading etc.

You want someone who only sells magical tat, the more expensive the better. Ideally they will claim the crystals come from some mythical, far off place such as Shangri-la or Penge. Even better if they say the healing energies have been charged up by an elderly monk or a hermit or somesuch.

Elphame · 14/07/2019 23:14

You beat me to it jen.

There are some commentators who think there are no ethical crystals. I certainly don’t want to support forced child labour nor condone the appalling conditions some miners have to work in along with the environmental damage these mines cause.

I use only stones that I have collected myself.

nonamemummy · 14/07/2019 23:53

That’s an interesting article. I suppose a lot of people don’t even think about that when buying their stones!
Elphame where do you collect your stones from?

Bignicetree · 15/07/2019 07:41

I've always found a visit to the GP efficacious when I need a bit of healing

BertrandRussell · 15/07/2019 07:45

I don’t think a crystal would have much healing energy when it has been collected by an enslaved child.........

LuluBellaBlue · 15/07/2019 07:52

I use a guy called Jerome at www.deepsoulconnection.com - he sources ethical high grade crystals and then super charges them up first. You can feel their energy just by holding them.

BertrandRussell · 15/07/2019 08:09

Your link is dodgy. How does Jerome source ethical crystals?

nonamemummy · 15/07/2019 08:11

Thankyou LuluBellaBlue
I’m unable to see any crystals on the website?

IsolaPribby · 15/07/2019 08:23

How does Jerome 'supercharge ' his crystals.

RushianDisney · 15/07/2019 08:38

I have a large collection of crystals and fossils, I started collecting them as a child fascinated by geology. Now that I know about the ethical implications of buying them - from the environmental impact of mining, to poor working conditions, slave and child labour, I avoid buying more unless sourced from EU/UK/USA mines and I don't buy many at all now, I only acquire them when a particularly rare specimen appears. We are all using devices containing rare earth metals which are definitely unethical, it's up to you to make your own decisions about what you buy and where from. Avoid places that can't tell you where their stones were sourced. As a pp said, it's nice to collect stones when you are out and about, stones from places that have meaning to you as an alternative. They may not be as sparkly but they can hold meaning to you - which is the only 'healing' you will get from any lump of rock.

As for fakes, lots of agate is dyed, as is Dalmatian jasper and tigers eye. Things like 'aqua obsidian' are just glass. Crystals with a holographic/rainbow tinge, often called 'aura quartz' is treated.

Elphame · 15/07/2019 10:47

nonamemummy beaches, mountains, river beds, my own back garden. Many types of minerals can be found in the UK in their raw state. They may not be as pretty and shiny as the ones bought from the retailers but they don't carry the taint.

Quartz is really common and most of the fancy quartz for sale is actually common quartz that is heat and or chemical treated. Most citrine is common amethyst that is heat treated.

LuluBellaBlue that link is coming up as unsafe in my browser so I'm not going to take a look. Unless he's actually visiting the mines and buying direct from them he can have no real idea of the genuine sources of his stones. It is a murky mess of wholesalers and middlemen.

mostlydrinkstea · 15/07/2019 17:05

My son used to visit rock and gem show for the fossils. One of the geologists told me that a lot of the turquoise coming out of China is fake. He had been fooled and he should have known what he was buying. If you are feeling rough visit the dr. If you want a pretty stone to cheer you up check where it came from. If the price is too good to be true it probably is.

Elphame · 15/07/2019 17:41

Dyed howlite probably. It usually is.

TheSproutOfWrath · 15/07/2019 17:47

@donquixotedelamancha. I've never been to Penge. I've heard it's very nice there.

donquixotedelamancha · 15/07/2019 21:06

I've heard it's very nice there.

I've heard that too, although I've never been there myself.

mostlydrinkstea · 15/07/2019 21:57

Pentecost is Saff of the river.

Nuff said.

mostlydrinkstea · 15/07/2019 21:57

Penge.

Autocarrot fail

TheSproutOfWrath · 16/07/2019 09:29

Tbf I've never left Brentford. My bastard bicycle keeps falling apart on me.

donquixotedelamancha · 16/07/2019 22:23

Tbf I've never left Brentford.

Why would anyone leave the triangle? Well, perhaps to get your healing crystals recharged.

BertrandRussell · 16/07/2019 23:40

Ah, Brentford. The gateway of the M4.

Babdoc · 20/07/2019 09:13

Op, please watch the “Alternative A and E” sketch from Mitchell and Webb.

It might make you think and it will certainly make you laugh.
My medical colleagues and I were in fits over the bit where they rush a road accident victim in to resus on a trolley: “ His chakras are fading! Quick, get the emergency crystals!”
Honestly, if you have health concerns needing healing, for goodness sake go to your GP, not some charlatan with a few overpriced bits of rock.

nonamemummy · 20/07/2019 10:55

I don’t have any health concerns thankyou

There are few who would disagree with you. But most people who choose to use crystals or other types of complementary methods do so in conjunction with allopathic techniques.

It is not usually an either/or situation.

Many of us do so in small ways, to enhance our life, put us in a better frame of mind etc.
We may take mega doses of vitamin C when we have a cold ( completely unproven), take a lavender bath to relax,( no scientific evidence), blow out birthday candles (results of wishes uproven) or carry a crystal which we feel helps calm anxiety.

We are grown ups- we are able to make these decisions.

donquixotedelamancha · 20/07/2019 14:25

We are grown ups- we are able to make these decisions.

Of course, but being free to make mistakes doesn't make them any less wrong. Grown ups believe that the Moon is flat, that Princess Diana didn't really land on the Earth and that Prince Philip sank the Titanic (or something like that). Grown ups should know better.

I agree with you that believing in healing crystals is the intellectual equivalent of thinking that wishes come true when you blow out your birthday candles- I just think that an adult who believes either of those things needs help.

There are, sadly, too many scumbags who are willing to prey on the vulnerability of others. That's why it's so important to challenge the magical thinking they use to cover their crimes.
