I think it’s tomorrow. Would love to have a few ladies to chat to during this special time. I’m still breast feeding but I’m hoping to still be able to do it. I’ve just done a huuuge food shop! What’s everyone cooking?

Oh dear yummy that's sounds tough. Is there a public event you could join, we regularly go to mosque to break fast...when mine were small we went daily and I didnt cook at all Grin now as they have school and are fasting themselves its only fridays and weekends.

there is nothing local to me. plus kids are young so too late in the week. plus really it would be so nice if i had a friend who would invite me. so so fed up

Sorry to hear you are alone @yummytummy 😢 I'm in the North West too. DH works evenings so I have Iftar alone too and it can be very hard not to be sharing it with your loved ones. Have you no family close by or non Muslim friends you could invite over?

Sending love to you and your babies xxx

hi i have no family unfortunately. i have actually invited a few friends over on various days. that does help. but just for once in my life i would love for someone to feed me a nice big iftar meal! thanks for your good wishes x

Salaam all!

Now into second fasting as a muslim. Last year was brutal in the UK, was it not? Hot and very long hours. This year it feels more manageable, apart from the first day last Monday when it was just awful nausea and head aches.
I'm sorry to hear of your iftar situation yummytummy - am too in the North West so can't do the visiting thing I'm afraid.

We have an open iftar tonight and Friday at Manchester Uni, in the Chaplaincy. Rather looking forward to it - it's open to all faiths and those with none.
At home iftar it's open with almond and pecan nuts (I don't like dates) and then a biiiig meal that unusually doesn't include samosa!

Ramadan Mubarak! I’ve got 2 kids fasting this year with us, so for the first time ever, DH and I are putting more effort into preparing Suhoor and a nice Iftar for the kids to look forward to. I prepped a bunch of samosas (potato-pea and feta-mozzarella) and veggie spring rolls and froze them the week before Ramadan. Also stocked up on amazing medjool dates from Jordan. Been making homemade soups (creamy broccoli to use up some special offer broccoli , Arabic red lentil soup) and having the kids choose diff dishes for me to cook them from the Nadiya Hussein cookbooks. They chose butter chicken with brown rice last week; tomorrow we’ll buy fresh minced meat for her Spaghetti Bolognese Pie. I cook every 2nd or 3rd day because the summer heat is absolutely crazy here in Dubai! Half of the huge jug of milk went sour due to the heat (and third kid’s habit of keeping the fridge door WIDE open for minutes at a time) so I made chocolate pudding from it to use it up. The third kid is on his usual unlimited snacking routine. The only issue is that we aren’t eating as much fruit n veg as usual: the kids struggle to eat at Suhoor ( a lot of cream cheese sandwiches) and at iftar everyone wants to fill their tummies with soup and rice and baked samosas.

Second DC and I volunteer to make up and hand out iftar packs to low-income people in our neighborhood for the Ramadan Sharing Fridges project: we usually walk to the nearest place and are busy from 5:45pm- 6:40pm most days then we speed-walk back home to set up table for Iftar (7pm).

Eid Mubarak!!

MrPan · 04/06/2019 07:53

Read classic joke yesterday:

Employee: Boss can I have Eid off work?
Boss: Sure, when is it?
Employee: I don't know.
Boss: Hmm
