I think it’s tomorrow. Would love to have a few ladies to chat to during this special time. I’m still breast feeding but I’m hoping to still be able to do it. I’ve just done a huuuge food shop! What’s everyone cooking?

I’m not Muslim, but رمضان سعيد to you op and anyone else celebrating Ramadan this month

Ziggzagg · 06/05/2019 17:35

Hi 👋

My first Ramadan as a Muslim!

I am starving, need a drink and a puff of my ecig so badly!

I know it will get easier!

For Iftar tonight, I have soup, lamb, couscous and salad with Turkish bread. Lots of fruit and homemade baklava for pudding xx

Ooh I used to love the Ramadhan thread think I missed last years. We are starting properly tomorrow but I'm fasting today as an extra. Having iftar at mosque tonight so no cooking Grin

Lessstressedhemum · 06/05/2019 19:37

Ramadan Mubarak to all of my Muslim sisters from another child of The Book. I hope God blesses your efforts and gives you strength and endurance in your devotions.

FartingInTheFence · 06/05/2019 20:19

Starting tomorrow too....

Best of luck to all. Ramadhan Kareem :)

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 07/05/2019 16:00

Ramadan Kareem!
We started today too - I'm not fasting due to pregnancy but DH is.
Most people I know started today too Smile

frazzledasarock · 07/05/2019 16:04

Ramadan Kareem. We started yesterday. I’m currently breastfeeding a 12 week old so not fasting this year. I’m hoping once she’s weaned I can start making fasts up Inshallah.

I made a billion samosas and froze them night before Ramadan so we’ve got starters and I get suggestions from everyone day before of what they want for Iftar, tonight it’s a Wagamama style chicken firecracker (and samosas, apparently samosas everyday or it doesn’t feel like Ramadan🙄)

MissPollyHadADolly19 · 07/05/2019 22:43

I second the samosas or it doesn't feel like Ramadan!!! Grin It doesn't matter what we have at iftar we always have them, aswell as pakoras!

littleducks · 08/05/2019 08:33

So one day completed! I find it really interesting the foods different cultures and families associate with fasting. Lots of places have soups which makes sense but I have never managed to get in the habit.

I definitely aim for healthier simpler food now the fasts are long and my children are older so I worry about their nutrition. We had eggs and avocados last night and I'm planning salmon and sweet potatoes tonight hopefully nutrient dense as nobody has much of an appetite by iftar.

I have heard of people donating their grocery budget and having rice and lentils daily for the month which I thought was a lovely idea. I dont think I could do that though..... maybe one year.

Langrish · 08/05/2019 08:36

What is the fast, is it sunrise to sunset (sorry I’m pretty ignorant about religions 😊).

frazzledasarock · 08/05/2019 15:23

I try to keep foods to our normal diets, but increase fruit and water and of course billion samosas at the dc insistence.

Fasting is from dawn (before sunrise) till sunset.

Langrish · 08/05/2019 20:56

Blimey frazzle, that’s a long time. I admire your dedication : and enjoy your dinner later Grin

yummytummy · 09/05/2019 16:11

salaam all. is anyone else fasting alone? am a single mum and kids are too young to fast. just find it really lonely eating by myself at sehri and iftari and hard to motivate myself. doesn't seem worth making special food just for me

Frokoko · 09/05/2019 22:23

Yummytummy- Where abouts are you?

yummytummy · 10/05/2019 09:11

i'm in the south east, pm me i can give more details?

Frokoko · 10/05/2019 13:07

I'm in the north west, was going to invite you for iftaar!x

yummytummy · 10/05/2019 13:17

oh i would have loved to come for iftar!! i can't believe you are the other end of country! haven't had iftar with another person for years

stairway · 10/05/2019 17:10

Sorry you have to have iftar alone yummytummy. The greater the struggle the greater the reward. Unfortunately I had to break my fast today. I was feeling too unwell and baby was sucking constantly. we've run out of dates too. I need to go to the shop but I’m Knackered. These Iftar meals sound delicious though hmm :)

Really nice thing to read, people inviting someone eating alone for a special meal Smile

Ziggzagg · 12/05/2019 07:32

Hello all! I hope Ramadan is going well for you all!
I'm really ill but still trying to fast, very hard when little ones are eating delicious looking fruit and pancakes Grin

yummytummy · 14/05/2019 18:33

ziggzagg you know you can leave the fast if really ill? and make up at a later date? how is it going for everyone? i am honestly really struggling. so sick of never having company at iftar time i'm kind of losing a lot of imaan now. it's like you do all the right things, all the duas etc but things just don't improve. where is my ease?
