How do I become more spiritual?

I’m a cancer nurse and have been for 25 years. In the last 2 years I have struggled emotionally with my work. I am trying to eat better, walk my dog in the open space, love my dearest relatives more but feel I need more spiritual support.
How do I do that? I tried Buddhism and felt it related a lot to my work but some of the people I met there unnerved me so I didn’t go back.

Any idea’s

Buddhism comes in a variety of flavours as do all religions. There are often nutters - they seem to come with the territory. Our local buddhists are tibetan and western but I find it doesnt ring true to me. Saying that I have met one or two, in particular a nun there, who I can 'feel' are the real deal. Trust your instincts. There are many paths, many ways up the mountain. I found Quaker meetings very gentle and restorative. You can read about what to expect at a meeting online. Its silent, but people get up and speak as they feel prompted by the spirit. It can be a very beautiful and moving experience. I like Quakers as they are practical. No pressure to join or tow a line in terms of theology. They have a collection for charity but no one has to contribute. I found them to be a haven.

  • I mean nutters in all religious/spiritual spheres not singling out Buddhism, which I have a lot of time for! Over the years I have found some wonderful people who are Hindus, Pagans, Sufis, Quakers and teachers of Tai Chi. Reader, I married one of them :) Hope you find something which speaks to you. You'll know when you do. Local library will have a section too, on philos/religion. Dip in and see where it leads you.

@Thistle72 I have no go-to advice to offer. I just wanted to make contact on here to wish you well as you seek to restore your wellbeing. You've made a good start. My heart was touched by learning of the many young people and parents/friends you have helped and cared for. Lives changed by contact with you. And now it sounds, from what you say, as though the time to care for and sustain yourself has come. All good wishes. 🌼

Wise words ladies. I second Eckhart Tolle and Deepak Chopra. I’m currently on my spiritual path following a very nasty divorce. Trauma and pain often forces us to look within.
