Any witches here?

Or Wiccans. or Pagans?

I was raised as a witch- my grandmother was born in 1890 and taught me how to scry, knotwork, many magical activities. She was a dresser of the dead and a lay midwife ( before the NHS).
I now practice my craft with enthusiasm.
A little tricky as my extended family are not supportive.

What is the best way to calculate when you have Saturn return in your chart? I have tried to work it out on online and have been given two different dates? What does it mean exactly?

Insomma · 11/08/2018 10:33

My understanding is the first turning of Saturn is generally around the age of 29, then 59.

However, online websites which provide more personal calculations are roughly within 3 years of either date. I believe my first turning came around 31, not 29.

Insomma · 11/08/2018 10:56

I had posted a fuller reply but it seems it was erased by accident or I'm being pre-moderated as I'm new. I'll wait to see if it turns up x

Zapholdbeeblebrox · 11/08/2018 11:34

Fascinating to read about Saturn returns. I have heard of them but don't know that much about them. It's interesting how it fits with your transition Insomnia Following the conversation with interest...

I'm so happy about the lovely new moon speakout and hopeful for new positive manifestations with this lunar cycle- wishing the same for my witchy friends here Smile

Insomma · 11/08/2018 13:00

Thank you... I don't want to monopolise the thread so I'll try to be brief. Also, this is only my own interpretation.

I think its easier to see the occurrence when looking back as the first turn is said to bring major change. Some say cataclysmic which is why Saturn can be feared. It usually denotes a major upheaval but, as I've mentioned above, it can be an inner transformation and the second turning can be a lot gentler. For me, I think it's more an acceptance of my true nature. Not sure where it will lead but I am (finally) feeling a sense of peace
... The irony is I've never rated astrology that much so why I'm fascinated with this is bizarre. Anyway, I'd rather read about you than write about me so I'll end this particular conversation

FitzsFool · 11/08/2018 17:56

Hello everyone! Hope the New Moon brings new beginnings to you all. I feel so restless today. I’m feeling very introspective and at odds with the noise and chaos of family life today. And I feel the need to go on a mass decluttering spree, both the physical and mental detritus of life. I wonder if this is standard New Moon behaviour? Or just me being slightly unhinged as usual!

Insomma I enjoyed your posts on Saturn Returns. I’m so new to this and I’d never read about them before. So interesting that you found it marked a transistional stage in your life. And so encouraging that you are finding the second transition to be such a positive experience. If it is indeed coinciding with your transition towards crone, it is yet another voice speaking of this transition as a happy and powerful one.

Interestingly, I used an online calculator to find the out what day I entered my first Saturn return. It just so happened to be the exact date I found out I was pregnant with my first child. The date I left my first Saturn return was the day after I buried my paternal grandmother. From the day I entered my first Saturn return and left it I bore two children and lost both my grandmothers. I literally moved up the generational hierarchy of my family in that time. Interesting synchronisation of events....

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 11/08/2018 18:05

You piqued my curiosity and I googled the Saturn return. My first one happened when I was 28, the year I got married.

Funnily enough I’ve been looking out at the sky recently and this week I’ve seen Mars, Saturn and Jupiter! As an Aries I was really happy to see Mars. I’m one of those who doesn’t believe in horoscopes but I’m a typical Aries...

I love how this group has put me in touch with the seasons, the moon, the planets etc. I did a waning moon spell last week and I’ve decided it cannot be a coincidence that what I asked for seems to have happened.

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 11/08/2018 18:20

Fascinating stuff Insomma thanks for sharing. I tried to do my own Saturn Returns via 2 online calculators (tried them both as so wanted them to work) but the times they gave me were not ones that stand out in my head. My most turbulent time was at age 34, the Saturn dates were when I was 28 and nothing happened at all when I was 28. Its very interesting to hear that it works for other people, I'll remember it & maybe the results will present itself to me at another time :)

Me too Fitzfool for no reason & at an unexpected time I've been tidying out my pit of an airing cupboard today! No reason at all, just felt a compulsion to do it.

There's the scent of woodsmoke on the air tonight, all my windows are open and everything is calm. Not even expectant, just a calmness all around. Peace to you all sisters (& any brothers on the thread)

sockportal · 11/08/2018 18:55

I've just looked up my Saturn returns, mine mark a time of great unhappiness for me where I felt nothing went my way. The only positive during this time was getting married.

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 11/08/2018 19:04

I looked it up on a second website and this time it has the whole period between getting married and having my first baby. Interesting!

jaxhwc · 11/08/2018 19:32

Midnight, in my limited experience I thought the Saturn return was an ongoing thing for that 7 year period, starting around 28 but that would end at 35 when the new 'cycle' begins. So every 7 years its at a significant point in your chart, after 4 times it's back to the beginning 'the return' but then it's starting the new 7 year cycle to the next point. Maybe your bad experience was the end of your return.

I don't know much about this I've just picked it up from my mum.

MidnightVelvetthe7th · 11/08/2018 19:52

Aaah thanks jax that would make sense! It all fell apart when I was 34 then got better the following year which would coincide with a 7 year cycle! x

jaxhwc · 11/08/2018 20:11

And although you may not deem the years from 28 leading up to that event as related, the decisions you were making within that time could have been a catalyst/lead you there and therefore be part of it.

From what I understand Saturn return isn't necessarily negative but more about breaking down structures you've built in order to make way for new ones. It's also affected by the house it sits in when you were born and whatever that represents.

I also read that if you were born at night time you have negative experiences and daytime can be more positive

Insomma · 11/08/2018 20:28

jaxhwc, That is interesting to know as I'd heard about 7 year life cycles but didn't know they were related to Saturn.

Insomma · 11/08/2018 21:03

Thank you MidnightVelvet and Fitzfool..

I also love the smell of woodsmoke. It always evokes a kind of longing. I get that way with the sky too.

jaxhwc · 11/08/2018 21:18

Insomma yes and I suppose it makes sense when you look at all the events/changes that begin at 7, 14, 21, 28etc.

jaxhwc · 11/08/2018 21:19

If you can get your birth chart and find out which house Saturn is in you see where it affects you most

GeeIneverthoughtofthat · 12/08/2018 00:41

Hello! Is there room for a newbie? I have found this thread incredibly interesting. Thank you all.

Having read the entire thread an awful lot of things seem to have suddenly fallen into place.

I bought a beautiful print a few years ago simply because I liked it so much and now realise it is a Green Man. I live next to woodlands. I became interested in herbs as a teenager and have rosemary and lavender growing at the front door. There is bay and guardian trees at the back. I also love to cook / do craft and think of loved ones when cooking / crafting - stirring in goodness when cooking.

In recent years I became interested in tarot cards and a close friend who used to use them - with some success - bought me a deck as a birthday present. However I never opened it. This thread prompted me to go and get it and I see now that it is a Triple Goddess Deck. I also realise now that that friend - a calming and positive influence - with lavender at his back door, white quartz on his desk and a tarot deck is probably somewhat more versed in these things than me!

I’ve recently wanted to start clearing out the house but found it hard sometimes to let stuff go. After finding this thread it was really interested to see that the waning moon is a good time to do this.

I’ve always been interested in intention but I seem to see things more clearly now. It’s quite a powerful feeling.

Does anyone have suggestions as to how a newbie hedge / kitchen type can carry on learning ?

Blessings to all !

speakout · 12/08/2018 07:26

GeeIneverthoughtofthat - plenty room and welcome.

Glad you are feeling empowered.
We are all learning, whether this is a journey of 30 days or 30- years. all are equally respected.
If you need more information there are lots of great books, online websites and resources.
And there is no one road to travel.
Read what inspires you or piques your interest, whether Tarot or herbs, or art magic or Wicca or astral travel, pick and choose what feels good, there is no "right way".
There are some amazing people on this thread so if you need help then ask. No question is silly or too difficult. You will get support.
Have a blessed day.

Speaking of finding online guidance, teachers, etc, I've been enjoying a series of short YouTube vids made by a Welsh solitary Pagan witch who is so down to earth in her advice. "It's your path and only you can walk it" in a lovely Welsh lilt keeps echoing around my head these last days

That sounds like my friend,Tylluan Penry. I have a few of her books, she's lovely.

GeeIneverthoughtofthat · 12/08/2018 09:47

Speakout - thank you.

I have already learnt so much just from this thread.

Its good to know that there is no “right way” and to try to find what feels good and works for yourself. I find lots of things interesting but I also find it hard to trust my intuition.

That feeling of empowerment can also be quite scary and I don’t know if I’m ready to use / embrace that consciously yet. Can I ask if anyone has ever felt like this? It’s almost as if by acknowledging that that feeling exists I’m making it stronger. Sorry if that’s not making much sense.

On a different topic I have a beautiful sepia photograph of my grandmother as a young woman, in my handbag. She taught me lots of cooking and crafting, I use her cooking utensils / trays to this day. We look very alike. I really liked the idea of an altar to the ancestors. When I have finished tidying out the living room I am going to get a beautiful frame for her photograph and place it next to a rose scented candle.

Thank you for this thread.

GeeIneverthoughtofthat

It makes perfect sense.
Feeling that power can be daunting, or can make you feel uneasy.

If you feel that way then use that power to nurture yourself, to support and strengthen you - to calm and guide.

Use your power in a positive way to ease your fears and relax.

Light a candle in honour of yourself as a woman and a goddess and of your grandmother. Give thanks and praise to the people that you and your grandmother are.

No need to move at a pace that is uncomfortable. Give yourself time to relax in your new skin. If you want to move on your path do that at a time and at a speed that feels right.
And you will know when that time is.
It will happen and it will feel right.

Enjoy and embrace your awakening.

Speakout - thank you.

Your words are so calming and supportive.
You are right when you say it’s a bit like a new skin. Taking time to see how it feels / relax into it / try it out.

I hadn’t thought of using the power to strengthen and support me. And yet that feels right. I also love the idea of this phase being an awakening. Such a joyous word with so many possibilities.

Your words really resonated with me today. There is such wisdom in them. Thank you for that blessing.

Welcome Gee.

Speakout your words are always so calming and supportive. You have a gift of saying the right things.

Such a different day for me today compared to the unrest of yesterday. A sense of calm and connectedness at home. My littlest one is unwell today, I have spent most of today just holding him close.

Now he is upstairs napping, so I have been preparing rhubarb in the kitchen whilst the rain drizzles away outside the window. Stumbled on this via the lucky-dip that is YouTube autoplay. Enjoyed the music and second time round read the lyrics and smiled. It just seemed to fit today.

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.
