learning · 06/05/2007 00:00

learning · 06/05/2007 00:01

OP posts:
Chandra · 06/05/2007 00:04

Just click over "search for messages" in the links at the top of this page and enter "Reiki"

I really can't answer properly any of your questions but I had 2 and it helped me enormously.

learning · 06/05/2007 00:07

Carrigean see you were on a thread back in 2005 and had done I and II attunements - can you tell me more?

OP posts:
learning · 06/05/2007 00:18

Did a search but can only conjur up either those who practice Reiki or those who have used it, but it doesn't answer my initial questions as in "how" "how should I feel after" "what happens in a session" "what does a preactitioner do"

hi learning, first of all can i just agree with the others and say PLEASE do not waste your money on the dna activation, i have never heard so much codswollip anyway to answer your question about reiki, it is very similar to aura cleansing all that happens is that you lie down on a sort of bed thingy, the practitioner will simply place their hands just above u and tune into your chakras ( your chakras are your life forceand u have 6 along your body, the crown of your head, the 3rd eye and the throat, then the chest the stomach area and then just above pelvic area, each chakra helps the part of the body they are assigned to, and if they are blobked it can result in headaches intestinal trouble etc...) anyway as i said he will tune into each of these looking for areas of concern and making sure each of these areas are as open as they should be, he will work by just holding his hands over areas of concern and channeling energy through to these parts to "right" them, u should be relaxed before your session and i advise that any concerns or anything u are not comfortable with u should discuss before your session, afterwards u should feel a sense of well being although some people dont actually feel anything, u might also feel emotional after your session which s perfectly normal as u are just getting rid of negative energys, oh and i would advise that u do not drink any coffee tea or alcohol untill the day after having the reiki performed. hope that answers some of your questions

learning · 06/05/2007 11:24

Thanks Loopy, and now for another stupid question. How does the practitioner know if you chakras are out of tune?

OP posts:
loopylou6 · 06/05/2007 11:55

because they first tune into you by feeling over the chakras and they can tell by the heat radiation from them and obviousley their own intuition

UnquietDad · 06/05/2007 11:57

What does it do?
Nothing.

What is it used for?
Conning gullible people.

How does it work?
It doesn't.

There;'s all my answers, I think.

Caribbeanqueen · 06/05/2007 12:11

UD, have you ever had any Reiki?

UnquietDad · 06/05/2007 12:47

No, but I know people who've had it done. You're now going to tell me not to knock it until I've tried it, I assume?... To be fair, I have not tried crystal healing, mind-reading, colour therapy, fresh-air-i-an-ism or any other New Age balderdash, but I know they don't work either.

suzywong · 06/05/2007 12:54

top trumps to UD for the use of the word
"balderdash"

fransmom · 06/05/2007 13:07

i have had reiki and it does work. it obv doesn't for some people.

MrsBadger · 06/05/2007 13:09

any chance you could answer the questions in the OP then, fransmom?

fransmom · 06/05/2007 13:15

reiki is, from what i understand, a healing system that works not just on the 7 chakras of the body but also on the energy meridians of the body (rather like ley lines on a body). any tension or stress in any form manifests itself physically as a blockage on an energy line - felt as pain, soreness or tenderness in that area. this is why massage works because it helps relax a person's body physically, mentally and emotionally.

it is used for releasing any negative energy that gets stuck in these meridians and helping the body's energy to flow correctly again.

the reiki practitioner will, indeed, tune in to the energy levels in the body by first calming themselves so their energy vibrations reverberate at a higher level - thus enabling them to tune into your, or the patient's own energy levels. if, however, the patient is not that willing,, then it may not work so well - rather like taking tablets from a more traditional doctor.

it's not a full answer but hth x

Hi learning, I've done a course to achieve 'level 1 attunement'. I took the course because I was curious, it was only two-days long, it was local and relatively cheap, and I have a friend who was very keen to go but not keen enough to go alone.

Here's what I was told: Put very simply, Reiki is considered to be a healing art. The Reiki 'practitioner' is an 'instrument' trained and 'attuned' to detect (through the hands) blockages/disturbances in energy in the body and release this, and I think there's some 'channelling of energy' into the 'client' too

I enjoyed the course and met some new people, and there were some interesting group dynamics over the weekend. I did experience various things - sensory experiences like fluctuations in temperature in my hands - that were described as Reiki 'phenomena' but for which there are explanations that I find much more convincing. So, I remain sceptical - there was no real 'training' per se, and no requirement to demonstrate any competency, and achieving the 'attunement' is done by a Reiki Master performing a ritual through which you keep your eyes closed.

I do know of people who find the giving and receiving of Reiki a great comfort. I haven't bothered with it since the course.

Nosy question after reading the dna-activation thread - what are you looking for?

fransmom · 06/05/2007 13:27
UnseenUniversity · 06/05/2007 13:42

yes fransmom, our secret?

fransmom · 06/05/2007 19:47

yes ok

learning · 07/05/2007 13:14

To be honest UU I'm not sure what I am looking for. I am an out and out stresshead at the moment and had heard of both these practices and wondered about them.

I haven't had Reiki done but a couple of weeks ago went on a course to develop psychic abilities. We did a healing meditation on all the chakras. It was the first time I'd done a healing meditation and I felt great afterwards, very floaty and relaxed. Which reminds me, I must do another one.

sorkycake · 15/05/2007 20:50

Reiki rebalances/clears your chi/re-energises you.
People come to me for a huge range of reasons. It works physically, mentally & spritually. The practitioner places their hands on the person receiving the treatment and the Reiki flows. Nothing to do with Chakra's I'm afraid.

purplepants · 17/05/2007 22:16

I mostly agree with sorkycake however I do balance chakras using reiki. Each chakra has an association with a part of the hormone system, a specific emotion & a colour. Lack or excess energy in any of these can cause imbalance that may be presented emotionally, physically or spiritually. Reiki is one of a number of techniques that can be used to help the body to rebalance itself. Intent of the practitioner and agreement of the client are crucial to it's success. HTH
