I think people should be careful doing Reiki

This post assumes a belief in spirituality so I'm not interested in debating that specifically. If you want to please start your own thread.

From what I can see, reiki is channeling occult energy through people's bodies and is therefore potentially risky. It seems to me that new age practitioners will repeatedly say they don't believe in malevolent entities but I think this is naive.

One of my friends told me that his dad was never the same after he became involved with reiki.

And also nearly everyone I've met who has done it was told by the reiki practitioner that they are 'special' have a 'gift' or could easily become a reiki master.

I've never seen colours like that, by the way. I'm envious! My friend sees notes and pitches in colour. Wish I did!

MoKnickers · 12/01/2018 22:48

If there was never any sensible people on woo threads the danger is that it will be seen as real and people will be even more likely to believe any old shit that they like the idea of.

DioneTheDiabolist · 12/01/2018 23:24

Surely most people are sensible enough to understand that people hold different beliefs, doing so doesn't make them stupid or bad and that having beliefs can be good for the individual who holds them.

'If there was never any sensible people on woo threads the danger is that it will be seen as real and people will be even more likely to believe any old shit that they like the idea of.'

Er, no. Most people who believe in a spiritual realm are only too aware of the derisive individuals who shout down their beliefs at any opportunity. To champion yourselves as sensible just because you don't connect with this stuff is at best showing a lack of empathy or understanding that not everyone has the same experiences in life as you.

I never had much of an opinion about that stuff. But one of my daughters who is now 14 is quite a gifted clairvoyant. She has visions and has seen premonitions of terrorist attacks. As a small child she was frightened of these things but as she gets older she's learning to block it out.

I agree pickle - it would be nice if we could have a private group.

You only think it's derisive because you don't want to accept the truth of it. Most people on this thread have not been derisive. They've been reasonable, rational and measured. I don't feel threatened by people who believe in what has been called 'woo' on here; I just feel perplexed and slightly saddened on their account. Why would the fact that people believe in stuff which has been disproved threaten me? If anything, i makes me feel more confident that (to coin a massively out of context phrase) 'tomorrow belongs to me'.

MoKnickers · 13/01/2018 00:21

Well Lottie there’s a million quid up for grabs if your daughter is that good.

However if a child has “visions” the response of a decent parent would be to get her to the gp pronto rather than encouraging delusions.

lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 00:26

Well take your 'sad' concern onto another thread. Because I can't imagine why you'd be so awfully hand wringingly worried about strangers on the internet. You just Have To Be Right and will not have your version of the world challenged.

Anyone who wants to suggest my daughter is ill can shove your pompous opinion where the sun doesn't shine. ☺️

And your idiotic opinion that clairvoyants should know lottery numbers highlights your ignorance about what it is. She can't choose what she is shown.

OP posts:
lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 00:27

And FWIW I have no idea why people pay to see clairvoyants. No good can ever come of it.

As a qualified Reiki teacher I can assure you that there is nothing negative or occult about it. Reiki is a form of mediation based on the sartori of Mikao Usui, the healing aspect is secondary to the spiritual development via mediations

MoKnickers · 13/01/2018 00:31

Yes of course. Seeing “visions” is perfectly normal 🙄

MoKnickers · 13/01/2018 00:32

You can qualify in Reiki over the internet can’t you?

Whatnextxx · 13/01/2018 00:33

MoKnickers visualisation is often used in mediation but rarely used in Reiki

Whatnextxx · 13/01/2018 00:34

No you cannot qualify in Reiki over the internet, it is an oral tradition and requires a person to interact with their teacher

lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 00:35

Mo, not that it's any of your business but FYI my daughter was taken to the doctor years ago to rule out anything neurological and she is perfectly fine. Thanks for your 'concern'

OP posts:
lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 00:37

I think you can qualify in reiki over the internet. This is part of the reason why I started this thread / I thought that in itself is worrying.

DioneTheDiabolist · 13/01/2018 00:40

If you're talking about the Randi Prize, it's no longer "up for grabs". They stopped it a few years ago.

Whatnextxx · 13/01/2018 00:42

As with any alternative therapy, there are charlatans, anyone claiming to be a Reiki practitioner after an online course is untruthful as part of the process of becoming a Reiki practitioner involves having a direct lineage to the teachings of Usui via the oral methodology.

lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 00:44

Clairvoyants are not omniscient - they are shown random things by the unknown. It seems to me that it's like being able to tune into different radio frequencies. It is the same as having a WiFi connection - we can't see it but it's there.

OP posts:
lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 00:45

I see Whatnext. My friend wanted to do an online course. So is this just a money spinner?

lottieandmia22 · 13/01/2018 01:03

Also, I would like to apologise for my touchy/rude approach to the thread tonight but this week I have already been called a bad parent for giving my 16 year old autistic dd ABA therapy when she was a toddler. So I am pissed off already. Nobody cares more about their children than I do and I happen to think that calmly believing and not ridiculing my daughter has helped her through this difficult aspect of her life that she has to cope with. Instead of telling her she's talking rubbish / must be sick in the head.

And it does become EXTREMELY tiresome when every thread in this topic is repeatedly shut down time and again by the same old people. WE HAVE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE. And not just here but in RL too, ok?

OP posts:
Whatnextxx · 13/01/2018 01:09

Yes lottie, there are many many unscrupulous individuals capitalising on Reiki training online. I would strongly advise that your friend contacts a Reiki teacher who is able to provide a lineage

FrancisUnderwood · 13/01/2018 02:05

Plenty of proof of rudeness and fragility of ego on this thread.
What an unpleasant read some posters have made it.

speakout · 13/01/2018 06:56

I agree about the unpleasantness.

No need for it.

ButtPlugInMyHalloweenHaul · 13/01/2018 07:03

I haven't read the whole thread. The word Occult means hidden. As part of my job I check for occult blood in urine. The word occult literally means hidden. I have never, to date, knowingly been haunted or possessed by some bullocks urine sample Grin
