Schnitzels!!!!! Brilliant!!!! I'll try her with those too! Any sneaky interesting twists on the traditional recipe??

Taylormama · 20/04/2007 16:35

for DS i cut the chicken into strips before coating and frying them so they are great for his little hands ... he likes them with cucumber!! If you double dip (egg, MM, edd, MM) you will get even crispier snitzels xxx

lulumama · 20/04/2007 16:38

you are such a balloboste (SP?)

BTW..have 3 bookings now !!

shabbat shalom to evveryone !

Taylormama · 20/04/2007 17:37

lulumama · 20/04/2007 18:13

bless his little chubbly legs

have you seen my thread re my ghost.. can give me a Jewish POV !!

Taylormama · 20/04/2007 21:28

i am not sure about the Jewish POV - i know it is "frowned" on to communicate with the dead as it were. Judaism is very spiritual however and i bet the Kabbalah has soemthing to say - will post when i findout more - you have never mentioned this to me!!!

lulumama · 20/04/2007 21:30

thanks....let me know what you find
this is my thread

Sugarmagnolia · 21/04/2007 08:17

wow a ghost, how intruguing!

I asked DH's grandma why we eat cheese on Shavuot and she had no idea! I've asked my dad who grew up believing in Santa Claus (was raised jewish but it wouldn't have looked good to the neighbours not to have a christmas tree sort of thing) but has become quite frum in recent years.

lulumama · 21/04/2007 08:23

thanks sugar...yes, the ghost is intriguing.... we are short of 3 mezzuzot, so my dad is getting those for me.....EEEK !

Sugarmagnolia · 21/04/2007 08:38

It would be extremely interesting to know what the jewish POV is on that.

Sugarmagnolia · 21/04/2007 09:21

Found this on somethingjewish.co.uk:

"it is traditional to eat dairy products, as when the Jews were awaiting the arrival of their commandments and were unsure as to what their new dietary laws would be, they ate only dairy products and vegetables, to avoid eating the meat of any animals which might be forbidden."

can't find anything on ghosts though

manuka · 21/04/2007 19:04

Thanks Taylormama I will have a go tomoro.
That was an interesting reason, sugar. It must have been such an awesome time, can you imagine being with Moses and witnessing amazing miracles of that magnitude??
Lulumama check out Many Lives Many Masters by Brian Weiss (Jewish psychiatrist) I think reading his research will help you to see what your ghost is- just someone trapped between lives who probably isn't aware he's 'dead' and probably believes he's just stuck in a weird dream.

suwoo · 21/04/2007 19:24

Just wanted to say Hi...I am not Jewish myself but live on Prestwich/Whitefield border in Manchester which as you will know has a very large Jewish population, so have a few Jewish friends. Glad you all enjoyed your holiday, and I am looking forward to the cheesecake soon too!!

lummox · 21/04/2007 19:33

Hi all. Signing in as another Jewish mother. And another one who married out.

No Jewish community at all where I live, but am trying to keep as many festivals as are toddler/baby friendly for ds1 and ds2.

Have a fab, very elderly, recipe for cheesecake. Didn't realise it was traditional for Shavuot. That's as good an excuse as any...

Good shabbas.

lulumama · 21/04/2007 19:50

thanks manuka..will look into that book!

and thanks suewoo ! x

lulumama · 21/04/2007 19:50

hi lummox

Sugarmagnolia · 22/04/2007 07:59

hi lummox & suwoo.

Dad also told me we eat sweet dairy foods in particular on Shavuot to remind us that Israel is the "land of milk & honey"...? suppose it's as good an explanation as any.

Taylormama · 22/04/2007 14:10

hi lummox and suwoo .... hope you have both had nice weekends.

Lulu - I have been researching about your question about ghosts - don't know if the attached link is any good it is interesting

jomist · 22/04/2007 23:07

Reading about cheesecake and the requests from my 2 for different flavours got me thinking about the healthy diet I try to give them, restricting the amount of chocolate and sweets, plenty of fruit and veg. Yet I make bubulas (all year), cheesecake, honey cake, matzo pudding, chocolate kisses etc...the list goes on, but that's ok in my mind.

manuka · 23/04/2007 19:06

What's a bubula?! That sounds funny!

jomist · 23/04/2007 20:01

Yet delicious! They are sweet fried dumplingish thingies that are eaten hot and dipped in sugar between bites. Totally calorie free you understand

Taylormama · 23/04/2007 20:35

Jomist - a recipe is required in that case LOL! Deep fried, dipped in sugar and calorie free - tis a miracle!

jomist · 23/04/2007 20:38

If off to find Evelyn the Goddess Rose...

Taylormama · 23/04/2007 20:39

evelyn rose - every Jewish girl got that recipe book for her bat mitzvah

jomist · 23/04/2007 20:48

Ok - here it is: 2 eggs, 1tsp salt, 5fl oz warm water, 3oz fine matzo meal, 1 tbsp caster sugar (see, no calories so far)

Beat eggs, sale and 2tbsp water until thick. Gradually add the meal and sugar and enough additional water to make a thick batter than just drops from the spoon. Fry in oil 1/4 inch deep or a mixture of 2oz butter and 1 tablespoon oil until golden brown and puffy. Turn and cook the other side. Serve hot off the pan. Dip in sugar between each bite.

I looked in the slimming world book but can't see it on any lists, so must be sin free
