i hope it is good - do 't feel guilty about spending money - I do tho but we should not we just work in an unpaid way but just as important

neetsmassi · 15/07/2004 14:55

Well I've finished my course - I did enjoy it. Now need to make sure that I continue. KR and Shrub - do you find it easy to fit it in to your day with small children?

OP posts:
shrub · 15/07/2004 21:21

glad you enjoyed it neetmassi. i have 2 ds's. when i first did the cours i use to hide inside the wardrobe with earplugs to 'try' and meditate, which of cours didn't work. unless its weekend i have found it difficult to get the morning session in as my ds1 is up with the sunrise. i do the evening one without fail though sometimes fall asleep as it takes me into that bliss like state you don't want to come back from. the teacher said no falling asleep or longer than 20 mins - don't know why though. i look forward to it so much and the more i do it, the more i get out of it - and the more i learn to let go

neetsmassi · 17/07/2004 13:28

Starting my course today! Very excited!!!

hi neetsmassi
that was cool... have not looked at your thread before and read it about an hour ago and decided to do abit of TM via the info that Shrub supplied on the other mediation thread! then you posted

have a great day - hope you enjoy TM

katierocket · 17/07/2004 13:41

Hi neetmassi - only just seen this message.

TM is fab, well worth it. I have actually fallen off the wagon the last week or so and not been doing it every day and I definitely feel the difference.

katierocket · 17/07/2004 13:45

to get the benefit i think you really have to do it every day (you're supposed to do it twice a day) and you have to have an instructor to teach you as although it's a simple technique there are lots of tips/questions etc that they help you with.

shrub · 17/07/2004 14:02

hi neetsmassi - only just seeen the message. i've never been 'called' before on mumsnet! all i can say is its the best thing i've ever done (after having my babies). on the first day i found i was trying to hard and just getting glimpses of its potential. on the second day i managed to get into the zone and managed to surrender/let go and thats when i got the flying/fallingin love feeling.amazing. a tool for life, think of it as an investment! it has helped me not to get so overwhelmed by mine and others feelings, it has given me a sort of clarity and i really do find i have more energy. iv'e just been to a meditation group this morning with my ds2 (13 months) wasn't sure if this would work but he nearly fell asleep - or maybe he was meditating...?
have a really lovely lovely time x

katierocket · 17/07/2004 14:09

agree with shrub about the more energy thing. It definitely revitalises you.

shrub · 17/07/2004 14:13

katierocket - do/did you get the feeling of flying? i still get it though when i become conscious of it during the tm then it becomes like a falling sensation iyswim? how long have you been doing tm and how do you do meditate with children?

katierocket · 17/07/2004 20:58

how did it go neetsmassi?

neetsmassi · 17/07/2004 21:02

Difficult to tell - I did enjoy it but thought I might fall asleep at one point.Need to practice again this evening after DD is in bed - looking forward to it though.

OP posts:
katierocket · 17/07/2004 21:58

it does take practice, most important thing is not to try IFYKWIM

neetsmassi · 18/07/2004 13:32

Second session today - will let you know how it goes.

OP posts:
neetsmassi · 18/07/2004 15:11

Was better today _ I think was trying too hard at first - thanks katierocket

OP posts:
katierocket · 18/07/2004 15:13

I found it really difficult not to try but once you accept that it gets easier and more rewarding. Good luck!

neetsmassi · 23/07/2004 11:17

Hi All - I am trying to do the TM everyday but it is difficult when I am with DD all day - have taken to doing it as soon as I get up (before teeth shower etc) and just after DD has gone to bed. It is difficult at weekends though with both DD and DH around - will persevere though. Have tried to do it while DD plays in the bath but find it difficult to let go in case she needs me - sometimes do it in bed before I go to sleep but it does make me sleep very heavy and have problems waking up in the morning. Don't know how much difference it is making except that I am definitely calmer with DD and shout much less - so that's got to be the cost and time in itself.

OP posts:
katierocket · 23/07/2004 11:21

I have the same problem. I try and do it as soon as DS is in bed (around 7.30) I can't fit it in in the mornings and our instructor told us not to do it just before going to bed as it can actually give you more energy and stop you from sleeping. It's funny because I only really noticed how much it was helping when I missed 2 or 3 days of it and then I turned back into a crabby old bag!

It is definitely worth it, keep at it.

neetsmassi · 23/07/2004 11:26

Thanks KR - nice to have to have someone to chat to about it - I don't know anyone in non mumsnet life who does it.

OP posts:
shrub · 24/07/2004 19:32

hang in there neetmassi, finding that time is so important, i know what you mean when you have children, i think there should be a modified course especially for kids - though i don't know what age would be appropriate - could potentially be a nightmare. my ds1 could really do with something like that to help him wind down/focus. i actually took my ds2 to a meditation for mums a couple of weeks ago, he was almost asleep but he did begin to fidget so we left as i got paranoid that the shuffling and gurgles might be affecting the other mums. i too hadn't met anyone who did tm apart from yourself and katierocket in mumsnetland - that is until last week, this guy i met said he had been doing it for 25 years and said how much it has helped him throughout his life. he was so calm and he hardly had any wrinkles!

katierocket · 24/07/2004 19:33

I think people think you're a nutcase if you mention TM. Brings to mind weird hippies I think. How little they know!
