A new Christian prayer thread for summer...

Tuo · 22/06/2016 01:38

This thread is a safe space where anyone - regular, occasional visitor, lurker, committed Christian or waverer - is welcome to come and leave their prayers in the knowledge that they will be prayed for. No problem is too big or small to share here, and if you just want to come and say 'hi', that's fine too.

Looking back through our previous thread, we pray in particular for:

abbsismyhero - for help with her anxiety and relationship with an abusive ex.

amberlight - for her work supporting people with autism, and for health and happiness for her and her family.

Aphie - for her fiancé's family following the sudden death of his uncle, and for her anxiety.

BlackEyedSusan - for all that she has to juggle as a single mum, for her DC, and for her mum.

Bluetinkerbell - five years on from the loss of her baby DD, Sterre.

Cocoa button - for issues around the safety of her DS2.

Dontbesilly - for strength as she grieves the loss of her dad, for her mum and the rest of her family, for her DD's school issues, and for Dont's own health.

drspouse - for full recovery from a recent chest infection and for happiness and a warm welcome in her new church.

DutchOma - with gratitude for all she does to support people on this thread and elsewhere, and for her to find peace and joy in her life following the loss of her beloved Bob.

EdithSimcox - for her to find joy and fulfilment in her faith and understanding and support from her DP.

ethelb - for her MIL who has blood clots in her leg and suspected sarcoma, and for all who love and care for her.

FaithLoveandHope - for her anxiety and depression to lift and for her to be able to avoid falling into despair and self-harm, and for her relationship with her DSD.

greyscalealmond - for her depression to be alleviated and for family relationships.

HardyLeodicean - especially for her FIL and for a recently-bereaved friend.

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece - for her friend's pregnancy.

LarrytheCucumber - for family members involved in fostering and adoption, for the DC involved, and for their birth parents and all involved in their ongoing care.

LifeofBriony - for her relationship with her DH and for her DD's friend, J, who is in a coma after a seizure.

LittleBootsTheBabe - for healing and happiness for an acquaintance of hers.

MadHairDay - for her health, and for her whole family at a time of change and uncertainty.

Malefriendproblem - for her relationship with an old friend which has turned sour, and for her DD who suffers from anxiety.

Newmamatobe - for her new life with her baby DD and free of alcohol.

niminypiminy - who will be ordained very soon.

passportmess - for her friend who has schleroderma.

Paulat2112 - for friends who are experiencing relationship difficulties.

PositiveAttitude - for her whole family, but especially her DD1 who has been depressed, her pregnant DD2, her mum and dad, her DH and his work. Above all, we pray for PA herself, who is always there for others when they need her, for her studies, and for a potential house-move.

QoF - for her relationship with her DH.

SESthebrave - for all who are grieving over the loss of a friend from church, for work-related decision-making, and for the friend who was Best Man at her wedding whose relationship has broken down following his wife's infidelity.

SouthernLassie - for her relationship with a colleague.

sweetandsour - for her auntie who has been diagnosed with cancer, and for her mum and all who love and care for her auntie.

Teallove - for her to feel free to move on following the breakdown of a relationship.

Trazzletoes - for her 6-year-old DS who has previously had cancer and who is now unwell again - praying for a swift (and hopefully reassuring) diagnosis and for Trazzletoes and all who love him at this worrying time.

Tweebee - for her DS to settle at nursery.

And also thinking of friends who haven't visited for a while, who who pop in only occasionally, including ALittleFaith, Anjelica27, Kaykat, JugglingFromHereToThere, ktef, legohurtswhenyoustandonit, Pandora97, shortscotty, weegiemum and others.

And, as always, prayers for anyone I've forgotten (with apologies), for all who lurk but don't post, and for newbies who may not have posted yet.

This prayer was posted by Edith on the old thread, and I really like it and would like it to stand for what this new thread is all about:

All that we are, Lord,
we place into your hands.
All that we do, Lord,
we place into your hands.

Everything we work for,
we place into your hands.
Everything we hope for,
we place into your hands.

The troubles that weary us,
we place into your hands.
Thoughts that disturb us,
we place into your hands.

Each that we pray for,
we place into your hands.
Each that we care for,
we place into your hands. Amen

someone appreciated my efforts... they were hopping around picking up grubs from the freshly turned soil. they sang to me as a thankyou. he/she may not be so thankful when I cut down their hidey hole. Sad

BlackeyedSusan · 15/09/2016 22:20

oh and finally got hold of their dad and told him to consider schools and visits.

BlackeyedSusan · 17/09/2016 14:34

play date for ds. oh goodness the social interaction minefield.... so much to go wrong and no idea how not to put my foot in it completely.

Cocoabutton · 17/09/2016 16:38

bes, yes, praying that it goes well, really good to have the play date but I understand your anxieties Flowers

Orchidflower1 · 17/09/2016 18:30

Totally understand your anxieties bes hope the play date went well.

Hope all is well with everyone else. Praying for all of you xx

BlackeyedSusan · 18/09/2016 10:25

tis all going pear shaped. milk in the carpet and sofa and lots disability being evident.

Dutchoma · 18/09/2016 10:37

Ouch! Spilled milk is every bit as bad as it sounds in my experience

passportmess · 18/09/2016 13:27

Hope everyone is having a lovely Sunday. Warm welcome for me and ds at new church and catechism classes for ds too. Praying for all those with anxiety and for your intentions. Spent time in the garden yesterday - cutting back bushes and raking. Leaves falling soon.

Orchidflower1 · 18/09/2016 17:41

*bes. Hope the milk is resolved.

passport glad you had a warm welcome. Hope ds enjoys classes.

Am thankful my db is safe and well- he is in New York with work at the moment and although a mile or so away from the bomb was still a worrying time when we couldn't get hold of him- mostly due to time difference. Am thankful prayers answered. Anxiety been worse today partly due to db situation but also not feeling 100%. Praying and watching songs of praise which I enjoy.
Praying for all to have a happy and healthy week xxx

Cocoabutton · 18/09/2016 18:20

Orchid, I am glad your DB is safe; your anxiety is completely understandable. I hope you feel a bit better soon.

passport, I am so glad church went well today and was welcoming. It is definitely the time of year for tidying before the nights draw in too much

bes, I hope you got the milk out, and today was calmer

I have been wanting to reply more to dont but for now, I just say I am praying for you, I am glad you are finding some comfort in the garden.

Prayers for everyone else tooFlowers; may you feel joy where you are able and respite in any suffering.

Cocoabutton · 18/09/2016 18:20

Tidying the garden, I meant passport

BlackeyedSusan · 18/09/2016 19:29

sofa cushion seems dry. time will tell if I got it sponged out enough not to smell.

BlackeyedSusan · 18/09/2016 20:20

another two legged humdinger. my ears are ringing

Orchidflower1 · 19/09/2016 14:40

Argh this anxiety I HATE IT!!! Why do I feel sick and horrible just cos I've got to do school run?!

passportmess · 19/09/2016 16:10

Hope the school run went well Orchid. It probably goes well day after day. When I stress about things I try to focus on how unlikely it is that something worrisome will happen.

Dutchoma · 19/09/2016 18:03

Hpw did the school run go Orchid?

Cocoabutton · 19/09/2016 22:15

I hope you got on okay Orchid, anxiety is horridFlowers

Orchidflower1 · 20/09/2016 08:27

Hi thanks for replies. Anxiety was v high but fortunately able to walk a little bit of the way back with another mum who knows I'm anxious. Today dd has inset so she is meeting ds which ds is excited about as its first time since she went to senior school. Praying for calm today xx

Orchidflower1 · 20/09/2016 14:20

Praying for calm so anxious

Cocoabutton · 20/09/2016 18:29

Praying for youFlowers

Does it help to name the things around you, out loud if needs be? I can see the trees, I can see the fence, I can see the clouds; I can feel my feet on the ground; etc.
And breathe deep into your stomach, not chest breathing.
Did you do any meditation? There are some podcasts by Tara Brach which are good for grounding. I am going to listen to one now. She uses a mixture of Buddhism and Christianity in her talks and every day experience.

passportmess · 20/09/2016 18:34

I hope today's school run went well Orchard - I'll look up Tara Brach, Cocoa.

Front garden is almost tidy ( thinking if you don't. Back garden needs work but haven't ventured out yet. I feel more grounded when outside. Hello to Larry and hope PA's little grandson is still making progress. Thinking of MHD and the big move.

Orchidflower1 · 20/09/2016 19:37

Thanks all for your support I'll try the naming thing tom and the meditation tonight at bed time.

Dh is tired and stressed so being quite grumpy again. Just trying to let it wash over me.

How is everyone else?
Whenever I pray I always include everyone either by name or just asking that " everyone on the thread has their needs met"

Got first councilling session with my local MIND Tom ( finally after 4 month wait) in addition to private councillor thurs. Hope it helps
💐to all xx

BlackeyedSusan · 21/09/2016 07:41

good luck orchid

Cocoabutton · 21/09/2016 08:13

The naming things comes from Tara Brach, the problem is I cannot remember which talk, I think it was one of the ones on stress. The one I am listening to just now is on awareness - so I recognise my anxiety response is to get very tight, tense and shrunken across my shoulders, so I notice this and say 'shrunken, shrunken' to myself and release the muscles. It gives you a moment to break the racing thoughts, as does naming things. I will try and find which talk had a range of strategies like that.

Thank you for your prayers Orchid, I too pray for everyone on the thread, I think it helps to know that difficulties are part of the human condition! Another visualisation strategy I have is of difficulties being a cloud - so my husband (we are separated a good while but not yet divorced) is this grey, thunder cloud shooting out lightening. If I am in this cloud, I cannot see anything else. If I am close to this cloud, then it is scary. If this cloud is one part of a much bigger sky, then it is less problematic. But even scary things have to be dealt with sometimes - though God has been answering my prayers and giving me time for reflection as to the best way forward, and for that I am thankful.

May you all keep well and safe, I am praying to God.

Orchidflower1 · 21/09/2016 14:48

Thanks bes
cocoa tried the meditation and I really like it. MIND went ok- more of an admin and q&a first session. I wanted to cry all the way there as so nervous but held it together. Am exhausted xxx
