Good question fourtothedozen. I also wondered about that.
Otherwise loving this thread and overjoyed to find likeminded people on MN!
Particularly enjoyed reading about the Hawaiian mantra - I'm sorry, forgive me, thank you, I love you. I am currently having trouble with a difficult manager who I believe may have narcissistic tendencies so is very prickly and aggressive if she feels her position or self image is challenged in any way. I am really struggling working with her, she was incredibly rude and attacking towards me in a meeting recently and I was not sure how to tackle this... I am going to try the Hawaiian mantra [may also need to go down the official mediation route via HR as well but will see how things pan out].
Otherwise also inspiring to hear about other's sacred spaces, i.e. Wistman's Wood, thank you VelvetGreen. I now want to take a journey to Dartmoor and spend some time there!
Myself, I am particularly drawn to Sea Magic and have been since a child. I used to visit the ocean when young and recite my own mantras and spells to the Sea whom I called 'Mother'. This was from when I was quite young and had never read anything about goddess worship and was definitely not brought up in a family with Pagan or Wiccan belief.
I also used to bring the sea a small gift, i.e. a coin or a sweet and throw this into the water as an offering. I then felt 'allowed' to take a gift from the sea - a stone or shell usually. Again, I was never taught to do this by anyone, it was a ritual I had which I just 'knew' somehow.
I still always collect stones and shells from the seashore and place them on my altar at home, particularly hag stones. I have also always been drawn to crystals and use them in my amateur incantations.
At this time I am reading all I can on Sea Magic and Sea Witches - 'The Sea Priestess' by Dion Fortune, 'The Way of the Sea Priestess' by Louise Tarrier and 'Sea Magic' by Sandra Kynes.
Otherwise have books by Starhawk, Glennie Kindred and Scott Cunningham on my 'to buy' list as they keep being recommended on various wiccan/pagan websites and via word of mouth.
Finally I am in London and I wondered if anyone had any information regarding wiccan training or courses that I could attend? I know of Wicca Moon in Eltham and have attended a few of their courses which were helpful but I think the next stage would have been to commence the initiation into their coven and I'm not quite ready for that level of commitment yet [that is, if they'd even accept me!] Any information or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Would also be willing to travel for weekend workshops outside of London.
Thank you all for such an interesting and inspiring thread. I am thrilled to find you all on my favourite website!
