A Christian prayer thread for Autumn/Winter

Welcome to our new prayer thread for autumn/winter. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what's going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of the ways in which we can work to make life easier for our autistic friends, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes; also thanking God for her recent 'all-clear' at her annual cancer check-up;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, for her DS to get adequate support so that he is less stressed at school; also for her DD and for her mum, and for BES to find the RL support that she needs;

... BlessedAssurance, for life with her two LOs, and for her family who are far away;

... DontstepontheMomeRaths, for her life as a single mum, for God to provide if her XH is successful in training for a new role, and for the wonderful work she does through her church supporting people going through separation and divorce;

... DutchOma, as she continues to miss Bob; thanking God for the wonderful support that she provides for so many on here; and praying for her relationship with her DD, in particular;

... Gingercurl, for her work situation; and for the relationship between her brother and sister to improve;

... howtoapproachthis for physical and emotional healing; and for a good bond between her and her DD;

... Kaykat, continuing to pray for her as she goes through the stressful and painful process of divorce; praying, in particular, that she is able to find good ways of supporting her DS, and for him to find renewed happiness in the coming weeks;

... MadHairDay, for her health; for peace of mind about the choice of secondary school for her DS; and for her DD to find friendship and acceptance;

... MrsPixieMoo, thanking God for her baby DD; and praying for a new home where the family can be really happy;

... Pipbin, for her IVF treatment - for her to find support and a positive way forward, whatever the outcome;

... PositiveAttitude, for her new studies and her work as a Deacon in her church; for her mum, who has dementia; and for her DD1 to find one or more special friends;

... PurplePidjin, for a more peaceful life;

... QuestionofFaith, for her and for her DH - for his depression to lift and for them to find ways to rebuild their lives;

... and for a poster we won't name but whose situation is known to God, praying that she is safe and supported.

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors including: ALittleFaith, Badvoc, BlueTinkerbell, CharlotteCollins, cloutiedumpling, JugglingFromHereToThere, ktef, MaryBS, niminypiminy, PandaG, RoomForALittleOne, SEStheBrave, thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, tunnocksteacake, weegiemum, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don't post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God's love.

Keep Your people, Lord,
in the arms of Your embrace.
Shelter them under Your wings.
Be their light in darkness.
Be their hope in distress.
Be their calm in anxiety.
Be strength in their weakness.
Be their comfort in pain.
Be their song in the night. Amen

Praying that you all have a Blessed Christmas time. Special prayers for you lovely ladies on here who have been struggling this year and might find the next few days difficult. May you be blessed in a special way through feeling God's special touch of love in your life.

Our first Christmas together as a family for 3 years and the first time of being a grandparent. It's feeling very special and we have been very blessed over the past year. I am so grateful. Thank you all for your prayer support and love that we share here.

FaithLoveandGrace · 24/12/2014 23:02

Trying to convince DP to come to midnight mass with me but he's being a miserable git and doesn't want to go out in the cold and I don't particularly want to walk there on my own :(

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 24/12/2014 23:04

Oh faith go! How lovely it'll be. Let your h stay at home, you may enjoy it more, than with someone who doesn't want to be there x

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 24/12/2014 23:05

How lovely Bassett Smile

MadHairChristmasEveryone · 24/12/2014 23:25

Just here to wish you all a lovely Christmas. Praying you all know that light which darkness cannot overcome. Thank God for sending Jesus. With love to you all.

FaithLoveandGrace · 25/12/2014 00:20

He came in the end. So glad I went. The sky is clear so had a really nice walk home. Feel much calmer.

Merry Christmas to all. May you too feel God's calming presence and see his light in the world :)

Prayer for Christmas Day - 'And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory'

Prayers tonight for all who read this thread, that the miracle of the Word made flesh may bring them comfort and joy this Christmas and beyond.

Praying in particular for all those who are struggling or sad this Christmas for whatever reason, and asking God to be with the lonely the sick and the desperate. Praying too for all parts of His world where there is no peace this Christmas and in particular, as we all think of Bethlehem, of Israel/Palestine.

Eternal God
Who made this most holy night to shine with the brightness of your one true light:
bring us, who have known the revelation of that light on earth, to see the radiance of your heavenly glory;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and forever. Amen

Merry Christmas everyone. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who prayed for my friend last week. She got the all clear physically and got home on Friday. We spoke yesterday and she feels she's been given a second chance and it wasn't her time to go. I truly appreciate all your thoughts at this scary time. Thank you x

ALittleFaith · 25/12/2014 10:26

I've been away for a while but popping in to wish you all a Merry Christmas! Xmas Smile

PurplePidjingThroughTheSnow · 25/12/2014 10:38

Happy birthday Jesus Cake

LollipopVioletsSparklyBauble · 25/12/2014 21:41

Merry Christmas everyone, I hope you've all had a calm and relaxing day. Prayers for those of us who might've found it a hard day, for whatever reason.

I went into my grandparents room this morning, said "Merry Christmas, M" (my granddad) kissed my hand, and placed it on his photo that we have on the urn containing his ashes. I didn't do it last year, but I just felt like I'd forgotten to do something, until I'd done it.

This year has been the first year where the presents have been a nice thing, but have been secondary to having all my family here under one roof and in good health, that's been the best thing about today for me :)

GingerCurl · 25/12/2014 22:04

Just checking to say I've been thinking of you all and to wish everybody here - posters and lurkers alike - a blessed and happy Christmas.
I've had a busy but reflective couple of days. I have been quite struck lately about the world's Creator coming to us as a baby - unarmed, seeking our gaze, snuggling in with us and wanting our cuddles, eventually allowing his mother and father to kiss his toddler bumps and bruises better. All in response to our longing for God to see us, to hold us and to heal us. I can't express it very well but was somewhat awe-struck by it all at a lovely communion service last night. Still smiling and glowing inside at the wonder of it all.

Dutchoma · 26/12/2014 21:32

Prayers of thanks from me mainly that everything went well, that the children were well behaved and pleasant and that my cold has only just got hold of me today. I'm also graeful that I got an invitation to go to tea with people from the church who asked only yesterday as they knew the children would not be there. Also for the fact that all Christmas preparations went well and that the house is not a total tip. Grateful that I have a warm bed with two hotties and that it is raining and not snowing.

innerstrength100 · 27/12/2014 15:20

Glad it went well for you Oma.

Prayers of thanks from me too, that my family were around me for two days, including my parents and sister and her family who had travelled quite a way. It helped hugely to have them all here; I absolutely don't know what I would have done without them. I had quite a few wobbles and tears but thank goodness they were here.

Hope everyone else on here gained some comfort from someone, and from God, over the past couple of days.

Dutchoma · 27/12/2014 16:29

Innerstrength no need to know what you would have done without them; you are right to be thankful that they were and you held it together.

innerstrength100 · 27/12/2014 20:43

Yes you are right. And no snow here either so everyone has been able to get safely to where they need to be :)

FaithLoveandGrace · 27/12/2014 21:19

Giving thanks to God for everyone (by the sounds of things) having a good and supported Christmas.

I think I've got the post Christmas crash. Had a fab day yesterday with DSS, DP's family and my family. Now we're back in our cold flat and it's back to work soon. I want to say more about it but still need to cook food and tidy up (looks like a bombs been dropped here!) so will hopefully be able to get things out tomorrow - assuming DSS gives me 5 mins to type :)
