A Christian prayer thread for Autumn/Winter

Welcome to our new prayer thread for autumn/winter. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what's going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of the ways in which we can work to make life easier for our autistic friends, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes; also thanking God for her recent 'all-clear' at her annual cancer check-up;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, for her DS to get adequate support so that he is less stressed at school; also for her DD and for her mum, and for BES to find the RL support that she needs;

... BlessedAssurance, for life with her two LOs, and for her family who are far away;

... DontstepontheMomeRaths, for her life as a single mum, for God to provide if her XH is successful in training for a new role, and for the wonderful work she does through her church supporting people going through separation and divorce;

... DutchOma, as she continues to miss Bob; thanking God for the wonderful support that she provides for so many on here; and praying for her relationship with her DD, in particular;

... Gingercurl, for her work situation; and for the relationship between her brother and sister to improve;

... howtoapproachthis for physical and emotional healing; and for a good bond between her and her DD;

... Kaykat, continuing to pray for her as she goes through the stressful and painful process of divorce; praying, in particular, that she is able to find good ways of supporting her DS, and for him to find renewed happiness in the coming weeks;

... MadHairDay, for her health; for peace of mind about the choice of secondary school for her DS; and for her DD to find friendship and acceptance;

... MrsPixieMoo, thanking God for her baby DD; and praying for a new home where the family can be really happy;

... Pipbin, for her IVF treatment - for her to find support and a positive way forward, whatever the outcome;

... PositiveAttitude, for her new studies and her work as a Deacon in her church; for her mum, who has dementia; and for her DD1 to find one or more special friends;

... PurplePidjin, for a more peaceful life;

... QuestionofFaith, for her and for her DH - for his depression to lift and for them to find ways to rebuild their lives;

... and for a poster we won't name but whose situation is known to God, praying that she is safe and supported.

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors including: ALittleFaith, Badvoc, BlueTinkerbell, CharlotteCollins, cloutiedumpling, JugglingFromHereToThere, ktef, MaryBS, niminypiminy, PandaG, RoomForALittleOne, SEStheBrave, thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, tunnocksteacake, weegiemum, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don't post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God's love.

Keep Your people, Lord,
in the arms of Your embrace.
Shelter them under Your wings.
Be their light in darkness.
Be their hope in distress.
Be their calm in anxiety.
Be strength in their weakness.
Be their comfort in pain.
Be their song in the night. Amen

Prayer for Advent: Day 4 - Maranatha: come Lord Jesus!

Mmm... Stollen! Thanks for sharing, Pidjin.

Well done, BES - you're making progress. Personally, I would keep a small selection of 'special' cards, but not everything or it'll definitely get out of hand. Praying for you, as you declutter.

That is good news Basset - I'm glad that posting helped. Continuing to pray for your situation.

Also praying for all on this thread. Very tired tonight, so this is a short post, but no less heartfelt for all that. Here is a prayer for all of us for Advent:

God of hope, who brought love into this world,
be the love that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought peace into this world,
be the peace that dwells between us.
God of hope, who brought joy into this world,
be the joy that dwells between us.
God of hope, the rock we stand upon,
be the centre, the focus of our lives
always, and particularly this Advent time. Amen

Just posting a prayer request for FaithLoveandGrace who is going through a hard time - she has started a thread.

Come, Lord Jesus, and wipe the tears of the world away.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/12/2014 08:18

1 mega meltdown down ... goodness knows how many to go.

Dutchoma · 04/12/2014 08:53

Praying BES.

And praying for FaithLoveGrace, thanks Niminy for highlighting that. It seems to me that, as the days grow darker, our moods go with them. Thank God that we can celebrate the Light of the World and look forward in Advent to its coming.

niminypiminy · 04/12/2014 09:41

oma Amen to that.

Aretepetite · 04/12/2014 09:47

Amen
X

BlackeyedSusan · 04/12/2014 13:26

not got a lot done today. some of the christmas shopping to take to my mothers. not all put away though. washing put in, some washingup done humus made.(trying to prevent a no humus melt down later) I am off to see them in school now for some charity thing or other.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/12/2014 17:45

humus went down well and he is calming down. took over half an hour as I had to wait for the onions to cool... (and half a tonne of garlic... I am trying not to breathe on small children/plants/animals as they may all die)

Dutchoma · 04/12/2014 17:50

Well, don't hold your breath as otherwise you might die BES. Then you'd feel sorry for the undertakers.

FaithLoveandGrace · 04/12/2014 19:11

Hi All,

Been signposted here from another thread so just popping in to say hi. Will hopefully be able to contribute more tomorrow, am just about to settle down with DP to a homemade spag bol. Thanks niminy for the prayer request.

Dutchoma "Thank God that we can celebrate the Light of the World and look forward in Advent to its coming."
this is great, thanks for sharing :)

I hope and pray all is well (as can be) with everyone here tonight.

Bassetfeet · 04/12/2014 19:15

Catching up with threads and reading . Thank you for praying and the words you write .
Thinking of all .

Dutchoma · 04/12/2014 20:42

Welcome FaithLoveandGrace, I hope you will feel very much at home with us and that we can support you in whatever difficulties you face.

BlackeyedSusan · 04/12/2014 23:29

passes out mince pies... slightly squashed of unknown origin, but a good nuke in the microwave should sort out any lurking lurgies.

some twonk bought a child with chicken pox to the school performance today. spots looked red and hopefully scabbed over rather than the blistery stage. hoping that all wil be well with the children for the weekend.

Prayer for Advent: Day 5 - Maranatha: come Lord Jesus!

Welcome to the thread FaithLoveandGrace - I'm glad you came to find us. I have been thinking of you today and am holding you in prayer.

Also continuing to pray for all on this thread, whether posters or lurkers. Praying especially for those affected by physical and mental health issues, for those affected by relationship breakdown, for anyone who is anxious about work issues, for anyone who is lonely or sad. Keeping prayers going for our world, and especially for the Middle East. Praying that there may be peace in that difficult situation and that those working to bring peace about may be inspired by God's love.

Thinking of Oma's wonderful, hopeful, words about the coming of the Light of the World, I found this prayer:

The light of God surrounds us;
The love of God enfolds us;
The power of God protects us;
The presence of God watches over us.
Wherever we are, God is.
And all is well. Amen

Love that prayer Tuo,thanks as ever for posting. Have been reading and praying over last few days. Bassett am praying for you and your husband, Kay I hope the news re the health issue isn't as bad as you feared, Ginger praying for S and your friends mother, inner strength am so glad vicar came round, how are things now? Faith welcome and praying for you.
Prayers for all you lovely lot.

KayKat · 05/12/2014 08:01

May The Lord watch over you all today wherever you may be.

Welcome FaithLoveandGrace are you able to say a bit about the issue or link to your thread?

BES I love mince pies and don't care if they are squashed!

Might get news of the loved one today there are two possible outcomes, one pretty good, one very worrying.

Thanks for praying about my divorce, it will be sorted within a few months with or without ex' cooperation. Quite a long time ago on here when in the middle of despair over ex' cheating and abuse I posted my belief that God will give me justice based on a bible passage that had really spoken to me, I still hold onto that belief today.

FaithLoveandGrace · 05/12/2014 10:45

Thank you all for such a warm welcome.

Tuo that's a really lovely prayer you shared.

bes mince pies sound great, regardless of how squashed they are :) Not good about the chicken pox! I do hope and pray the children are okay at the weekend.

Kay to put it briefly, I've been struggling with mental health issues for a while and a combination of forgetting / not taking my AD's and other things going on at the moment, things have been getting too much and I find myself being drawn to unhealthy coping mechanisms. Here is the thread I posted recently:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/philosophy_religion_spirituality/2251292-Self-harming-Christian?

I will try to catch up with the thread soon, but I pray that God provides you with all that you need in whatever times of trouble you may be going through, that his loving presence will shine through even the darkest of days.

innerstrength100 · 05/12/2014 11:27

God give you strength Faith. I have read your other thread and glad you are talking to your vicar and looking at counselling. I am gaining great comfort from both counselling and my church at the moment in my own struggles. Sometimes I just go and sit in there when there is no one there; it does bring some kind of peace.

Still very up and down here; taking baby steps forward in trying to reach acceptance as to the situation with my DP. No idea if I will ever see him or even speak to him again at this point. Trying to keep the faith that whether I do or not is God's will.

GingerCurl · 05/12/2014 11:33

DS doing better TUO. Thank you for asking and for your prayers. His teacher seems pleased and says that although DS has the occasional "blip" the overall trend in school, both with regard to behaviour and achieving, is positive. We are working very much along the lines of praising the good, however small, and ignoring (as much as reasonable) the bad so that that we build up DS' confidence and it seems to be working. We have also talked to him a lot about friends and friendships and how they can change over time.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/12/2014 13:15

shattered. ds was in my bed again last night. there were tears as he did not wake up early and get on the computer. we scraped into school at the last minute. I have to drive up to my mums tonight. I am leaving it until later as the traffic will be better after rush hour, and rush hour has started by the time we set off as early as we can. there is too much to do too little time to do it.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/12/2014 14:25

well two loads of washing have been done and hung up to dry. I have handwashed several items and they are spinning in the machine. I have taken the bin down and some of the stuff to take to my mothers. done the washingup. got to finish packing and taking stuff from the freezer to board it at my mothers. and clear out the fridge. all this organising is hard work. everyone expects it all to happen as if by magic.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/12/2014 15:06

off to get the children. eek.

BlackeyedSusan · 05/12/2014 19:24

oh god I have lost the emailed tickets for something which is going to cost us about 60 pounds... wasted.. if I can not sort it out.
