A Christian prayer thread for Autumn/Winter

990 replies

Welcome to our new prayer thread for autumn/winter. This is a safe and supportive place of prayer, where regulars, occasional visitors and lurkers, committed Christians and those just dipping a toe into the water are all equally welcome. Come and leave a prayer, tell us what's going on in your life, bring your worries, hopes, fears and joys to God, and know that you will be prayed for.

We pray, in particular, for...

... amberlight, for her work raising awareness of the ways in which we can work to make life easier for our autistic friends, and for her to know love and acceptance wherever she goes; also thanking God for her recent 'all-clear' at her annual cancer check-up;

... BlackEyedSusan, for all the many things which she has to juggle in her life as a single parent; in particular, for her DS to get adequate support so that he is less stressed at school; also for her DD and for her mum, and for BES to find the RL support that she needs;

... BlessedAssurance, for life with her two LOs, and for her family who are far away;

... DontstepontheMomeRaths, for her life as a single mum, for God to provide if her XH is successful in training for a new role, and for the wonderful work she does through her church supporting people going through separation and divorce;

... DutchOma, as she continues to miss Bob; thanking God for the wonderful support that she provides for so many on here; and praying for her relationship with her DD, in particular;

... Gingercurl, for her work situation; and for the relationship between her brother and sister to improve;

... howtoapproachthis for physical and emotional healing; and for a good bond between her and her DD;

... Kaykat, continuing to pray for her as she goes through the stressful and painful process of divorce; praying, in particular, that she is able to find good ways of supporting her DS, and for him to find renewed happiness in the coming weeks;

... MadHairDay, for her health; for peace of mind about the choice of secondary school for her DS; and for her DD to find friendship and acceptance;

... MrsPixieMoo, thanking God for her baby DD; and praying for a new home where the family can be really happy;

... Pipbin, for her IVF treatment - for her to find support and a positive way forward, whatever the outcome;

... PositiveAttitude, for her new studies and her work as a Deacon in her church; for her mum, who has dementia; and for her DD1 to find one or more special friends;

... PurplePidjin, for a more peaceful life;

... QuestionofFaith, for her and for her DH - for his depression to lift and for them to find ways to rebuild their lives;

... and for a poster we won't name but whose situation is known to God, praying that she is safe and supported.

We pray also for all regular and occasional visitors including: ALittleFaith, Badvoc, BlueTinkerbell, CharlotteCollins, cloutiedumpling, JugglingFromHereToThere, ktef, MaryBS, niminypiminy, PandaG, RoomForALittleOne, SEStheBrave, thegreenheartofmanyroundabouts, tunnocksteacake, weegiemum, and for anyone I've forgotten to name-check (don't take it personally, please!). And we pray for those who read and pray but don't post, for those who need our prayers but are afraid or too uncertain to post them, and for all those known to us in our own lives who need God's love.

Keep Your people, Lord,
in the arms of Your embrace.
Shelter them under Your wings.
Be their light in darkness.
Be their hope in distress.
Be their calm in anxiety.
Be strength in their weakness.
Be their comfort in pain.
Be their song in the night. Amen

Welcome back, Oma. And how like you to turn up just when you were needed with some really profound, loving, and understanding words for QoF.

QoF praying for your situation, and above all for you to find the love and the strength to rebuild your relationship, be it ever so slowly. We will be here and will keep praying for you.

I was very moved by what you said about this thread, too, and it made me think that I would try to do for Advent what I did for Lent, and post a prayer every day. Watch this space. (Have been struggling to get on here a bit these last couple of days - power was out most of yesterday due to a problem with the dishwasher, and today my computer died...)

This is (slightly adapted from) one of the Northumbria Community readings for today:

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage our hearts and strengthen us in every good deed and word. Amen (2 Thessalonians 2:16–17)

Oma thank you! What you have said makes perfect sense and has helped me make some sense of what I am feeling. And Tuo thank you for all you do with posting prayers. I am excited about advent this year. I have been a Christian as long as I can remember and always had a faith but this will be the first time I have gone through advent as an adult as a regular mass attender,consciously trying (with emphasis on trying) to live as a Christian. It makes me feel all warm inside Smile and I am really looking forward to it.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 22/11/2014 09:01

That's a lovely prayer Tuo - I especially like "encourage our hearts and strengthen us in every good deed and word" Look forward to reading the prayers with you all through Advent. Am sending my nieces and nephews an advent calender - must get them in the post soon!

BlackeyedSusan · 22/11/2014 09:59

MrsPixieMoo · 22/11/2014 10:44

Our offer on the house we love was accepted yesterday. Please continue to pray all goes smoothly from hereon.

Dutchoma · 22/11/2014 10:51

Oh, praise the Lord, Pixie. So pleased for you. When will you be able to move?

BlackeyedSusan · 22/11/2014 10:56

was expecting ex. not here as yet. we are going out at 2.30 I agreed to him coming last night as an extra, but he could not make it in the end.

the weekend after bonfire night he did not come as there was sickness in the family and he can not risk his dad's health.

last weekend he arranged to see a friend and was here for four hours on saturday but a bit longer on the sunday.

BlackeyedSusan · 22/11/2014 10:57

great pixie!

QofF · 22/11/2014 11:53

Dutchoma · 22/11/2014 12:04

That will be a Christmas to remember, one way or the other. What would you like best?

MrsPixieMoo · 22/11/2014 12:14

Before would be wonderful.

Dutchoma · 22/11/2014 16:02

We'll pray for that then. Let's know how it goes.

amberlight · 22/11/2014 17:05

Keeping everyone in prayers

GingerCurl · 22/11/2014 22:16

Hi everyone! Have been doing my usual thing of hanging around here, praying but not posting much.
After a generally pretty positive week for ds behaviourwise, today has been an absolute disaster. He punched another child for no apparent reason at his favourite sports activity this morning and then carried on messing around during the rest of the session so he had to sit out not just once, but three times. Dh and I were so angry when we found out. We gave a very stern talking to and banned his Xbox &Ds & tablet time. He then continued playing up at home, not doing as asked/told, ignoring us, not accepting a no, etc., which led to more shouting and telling off.... I think we are all stressed out about it and feel terrible. And we're both at a loss as to how to help him. Something is going on but we don't know what and he can't tell us. I worry so about him.

Tuo · 23/11/2014 00:13

Praying for all who read this thread, all who post, all who lurk, and all those known to us who need our prayers tonight. Praying especially for GingerCurl and her DS, for BES and for PixieMoo. Also keeping prayers going for MHD's health this winter.

From tonight's Northumbria Compline:

The God of life with guarding hold us;
the loving Christ with guarding fold us;
the Holy Spirit, guarding, mould us;
each night of life to aid, enfold us;
each day and night of life uphold us. Amen

Hi GingerCurl - sorry to hear you've had a difficult day. Hope tomorrow is a better one!

KayKat · 23/11/2014 09:20

All is mostly ok with me. DS much much happier. Sometimes I struggle to get him up in the mornings but apart from that no problems. Ex stopped trying to turn him against me and they aren't too bothered about talking to each other any more. DS used to say that his dad was the only one who understood him and that he hated me. Now that has all stopped. Ex is still friendly to me. He like to make comments about how hard done by he is in the divorce but I take that with a pinch of salt. The divorce should be all sorted in a few more months but maybe sooner.

Dutchoma · 23/11/2014 09:29

That really is very wonderful to hear Kay, a real answer to prayer. I'll go on praying that the divorce will be settled sooner rather than later and that no last minute hitches are thrown into the mix.

BlackeyedSusan · 23/11/2014 17:23

three people who have been overstimulated, fed bright red and blue slush puppies and a load of junk food. this is not a happy combination.

middles size one is upstairs reading being good, small one is spinning and flapping aand chatting loudly, large one is sitting in the corner trying to calm down with a cup of coffee, I have a party induced headache.

QofF · 23/11/2014 20:18

Praying for you and your ds Ginger. Kay I had a smile on my face reading your post and I pray things will continue to improve. How are you feeling in yourself now? Bes I hope the chemicals are on their way out of the cds systems...

QofF · 23/11/2014 20:19

Or even dcs systems (cds?? Joys of autocorrect)

BlackeyedSusan · 24/11/2014 16:02
