Tarot help - any experts?

Not sure if I have posted in the right place but here goes....

I got a pack of cards years ago and a really good book. I would often ask questions and the cards would come up with pretty accurate readings. Even if I didn't want them to be right they later proved to be.

Anyway, I still use them many years later. Most recently to ask if our horrid, old abusive neighbours will be moving. (They are retired and hate living next to a family. This is the third spring they have put house on market). Everytime I ask if they will move this year I get The page of cups. I just can't work out the meaning.

Any help?

No I don't think that you are saying I am wrong by saying you believe in god.

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/05/2014 14:50

I believe in lots of things that aren't facts. Concepts, ideas, ideals, theories, religions, politics, philosophies, spirituality, none of these are facts.

Head only you know if you were confusing belief with fact during your believing days. Do you think you were? Do you think that you still are?

headinhands · 27/05/2014 14:57

It was my belief that Jesus and Yahweh actually existed. I believed they were factually real. My belief wasn't the fact it self but if someone had said 'do you think god actually exists' I would have said yes so in that sense surely I thought that although I had no proof that somewhere in the universe a god actually existed. If I asked you if god was real and actually existed I.e it was a fact that he existed then you'd say no?

headinhands · 27/05/2014 14:59

So you don't believe in an actual god but a kind of concept type thing?

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/05/2014 16:14

I have a concept of god that I am still trying to make sense of. So if you asked me do you believe in god, I would say yes. If you asked me if god's existence was a fact, I would say no because it doesn't fit the criteria for being a fact.

Do you understand the difference between fact and belief Head?

headinhands · 27/05/2014 18:42

But if you believe god exists then you think god existing is a fact, you acknowledge you don't have proof but you talk to him I'm guessing and I reckon you think he is listening so you must on some level think it's all factual and actual reality? Surely you must think it's factual for it to affect your behaviour as with praying?

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/05/2014 19:03

Just because I believe that god exists doesn't mean I get to change the definition of fact. I believe in peace. That doesn't mean that peace is a fact. It is not, it is a concept/abstract.

What was your factual god like when you believed?

headinhands · 27/05/2014 21:08

So you think god is a concept like peace rather than an actual specific thing that exists in it's own right?

headinhands · 27/05/2014 21:12

I thought he was factual enough to talk to him didn't I? And sing to him and tell other people about him and so on.

Runesigil · 27/05/2014 21:35

Hi drLu,
I'm not an expert but I've done a fair few readings using Tarot and other decks. Tarot's not the best medium for asking a question that has a yes/no answer, tossing a coin would be more effective.
Did you only draw the one card or did you use a spread? A 3 card spread can be useful for simple situations and a full 10 or more card spread can give a more in-depth overview of the situation.

Have a look at the book which came with your deck or research online to see which spreads appeal to you for guidance in this situation.

DioneTheDiabolist · 27/05/2014 22:55

I think god is a concept like peace and something that exists in it's own right and something that exists in everything. Can you see why I wouldn't even try to give it Fact Status?Grin. As I said earlier, I am still trying to get my head around it.

That's why I hang around here. To get to hear about other people's concept of god. Head, your concept of god seems so much more concrete than mine. Would you describe him to me?

headinhands · 28/05/2014 06:00

I think my concept of god when I was a Christian was fairly mainstream. Obvious uncomfortable contradictions but I didn't dwell on it or was groomed not to and to 'have peace' which is what one leader said when I was struggling with OT violence. Obviously my peace wasn't as good as hers.

headinhands · 28/05/2014 07:51

still trying to get my head around it.

I wouldn't worry. You only have to be here for a short while to see it can be anything anyone decides it is (often contradictory but keep it baggy and vague to avoid difficulties)

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/05/2014 09:30

Head, when you say "fairly mainstream" what do you mean?

headinhands · 28/05/2014 13:39

Well, a bit CofE with a twist of evangelicalism.

headinhands · 28/05/2014 13:40

Not westboro baptists or the like.

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/05/2014 23:54

Thanks for taking the time to respond Head.Smile I am reading, but too knackered to converse.[wreckedemoticon]

DioneTheDiabolist · 29/05/2014 17:21

Head, I think we may be talking at slightly crossed purposes. When you talked to and about the god that you believed in, who/what did you think you were talking to. You use "him" to describe god. Was your god masculine? Was your concept of god like a human man only older, never sleeping and all knowing?

headinhands · 29/05/2014 19:22

Gosh it's hard to remember exactly. It probably changed quite a bit over time and according to what I had been reading/thinking, obviously!
