Is the Christian God's love unconditional?

Ok, some questions which have been playing on my mind, I am genuinely interested.

Surely his love is on the condition that you are a) a Christian and b) follow his rules?

Also, if God loves everyone as much as he does, why can't he save everyone by simply appearing to them? If I could save my children by doing this then I would in an instant, rather than turning up at the end and destroying the ones who weren't Christian.

caps yes, yes and probably don't know enough.

headinhands · 30/11/2013 22:44

But wouldn't/isn't all those phenomenons merely be indicative of the power of our beliefs as opposed to the actual reality of any specific deity?

capsium · 30/11/2013 22:46

head then you look at the particular beliefs in relation to outcome and Christian beliefs, to give an idea.

headinhands · 30/11/2013 22:49

Sorry, could you be more explicit caps?

capsium · 30/11/2013 22:52

How? What bit particularly interests you?

headinhands · 30/11/2013 22:57

No I meant I didn't know what you meant by looking at particular beliefs in relation to outcome.

capsium · 30/11/2013 22:59

Any belief, compare Biblically, look at outcome.

capsium · 30/11/2013 23:02

Outcome as in the physical effects.

capsium · 30/11/2013 23:08

I came across some interesting brain pathway images taken by a Doctor Leaf for example, which were very pertinent in terms of Biblical imagery concerning trees, fruit and thorns, this was related to states of mind observed.

headinhands · 30/11/2013 23:13

I still need you to be more explicit and state what you think/where you're coming from. Not knowing about the things you're talking about makes it difficult for me to have an opinion. I hate not having an opinion!

capsium · 30/11/2013 23:17

I have not done enough reading to really give you a fully formed opinion of the phenomenon myself. It is just an area I'm interested in.

capsium · 30/11/2013 23:19

The things I think about from time to time...

However it's getting a bit late for me to be making even a little sense, even to myself, so I'll say Goodnight!

BackOnlyBriefly · 30/11/2013 23:42

I'm off to bed now, but before I forget. Capsium, that sounds like the person's mind doesn't go to heaven.

That would actually fit in with the idea that people can't sin in heaven. If they don't have the mind they had on earth they might be incapable of making the decision to sin. But if that's right that's not a very enticing prospect.

As an atheist of course I think my mind is all of me, but even if I were religious I would think it was an important part and wouldn't want it discarded. I'd want the me that's sitting here now to go not some cut down version.

capsium · 01/12/2013 07:30

Oh it doesn't bother me, Back, since the mind has the capacity for wrong thinking, which is does not do me, or anyone else, any good.

In this song, 'A tethered mind free from all the lies,' expresses it well I think. Smile

headinhands · 01/12/2013 08:47

If a person's body doesn't go to heaven how will they see or feel?

capsium · 01/12/2013 09:00

I don't know head. I don't know whether it will be relevant, since they will know all things..

capsium · 01/12/2013 09:02

Sorry I missed the doesn't there. I think somehow there is a spiritual perception.

capsium · 01/12/2013 09:03

Oh got it right first time. Not woken up properly!

capsium · 01/12/2013 09:11

Oh and we get Resurrection bodies.

capsium · 01/12/2013 09:17

I need to have more revelation myself on this, I don't fully understand. I think you sort of have to start with first concepts though for understanding to come, so I don't expect to have a fully formed idea for a while.

I'm still getting to grips with love thy neighbour!

headinhands · 01/12/2013 09:26

You would have thought, would you not, that after 6000 years the collective revelations from god would add up to more than a 'I don't know' by now.

headinhands · 01/12/2013 09:30

And if you got a room full of Christians who thought they had a 'fully formed idea' they would all be very different. Which suggests, does it not, that it's nothing to do with revelation, but just mere ideas.

capsium · 01/12/2013 09:32

head if you asked me exactly how an aircraft worked I would not be able to tell you.

There are lots of things I do not fully understand.

capsium · 01/12/2013 09:33

Who has got fully formed ideas?
