Ah sorry just read on and saw Blue had already offered Niminy a lift. Are you in Cambridge too Blue?

Jaynebxl · 23/06/2013 20:09

Bluetinkerbell · 24/06/2013 07:37

Jaynebxl · 24/06/2013 07:50

madhairday · 24/06/2013 08:44

How are you all today?

Bluetinkerbell · 24/06/2013 09:52

I just did my last assembly at the First school about the Lord's Prayer. DD1 sat beautifully, :)

UniqueAndAmazing · 24/06/2013 14:46

I think our church is going a bit tits-up at the moment Shock

not massively, but the Healing Ministry leader has asked for the organ to be played softly at the end of the service because the chapel they use is right next to the pipes.
Bloody daft suggestion, and of course DH and Asst Organist are very upset about it. They feel like their form of worship is being put down in favour of someone else's form of music.
NV is quite concerned because he really wants to do the right thing for everybody.
I told him today that I think the only solution (given that they can't move to somewhere else in the church due to steps/other people using that space) is that the Healing Ministry starts after the Organ Voluntary has ended. That way, the people doing/receiving the Healing can have a period of time to prepare, and it means that the Organists can still perform their own form of worship (which of course, other people enjoy listening to)- can you imagine quiet voluntaries every week? it'd start to sound miserable!
(and the organ really can't go that quiet)
I did make sure that I used the words "important" about the form of worship when I spoke to NV. I thought I put the point across very well, and sounded like I wanted the best solution for everyone (without sounding like a "it's not fair!!" child Wink ). Thankfully, I'm not directly involved, so it looks like I'm speaking for them rather than wanting my own way.
NV said that of course, everybody thinks their own part in the service is the most important, so it was essential that everyone felt that they weren't being put out or shoved to one side. I said "exactly, everyone's part is equally important".
Still think my solution is the only practicable one, but we'll see.
(he did say about putting it back in the middle of the service, but I said then it looks like we're saying "you've only got so much time to do this" which is a bad message. (and the organ's going to be playing the final hymn too, so that really doesn't help!))

NV is introducing new things bit by bit, one of which is the way they say the introduction of the readings. So, he wrote it out. put it on the lectern and emailed everyone involved. Well, he emailed DH. So, thankfully on Sunday, DH noticed a new piece of paper on the lectern, had a quick read then had to rush over to Asst Organist to let him know it had already started. I was a bit surprised at NV for not having put a copy on the organ (y'know, the ones who need to know it's changed so they know when to play! It's not the kind of error you can cover up...Hmm) because he's normally rather thoughtful. DH is going on the assumption that he thought DH would print out a copy, but my dad always says "Assume makes an ass out of U and ME"

madhairday · 24/06/2013 16:08

Could they do the prayer ministry during the communion part of the service? We do it this way - the pray-ers go up first for the eucharist then go to a certain area and people go for prayer etc - seems like a good time to do it, no loud music and generally a reflective time? Straight after the service people are sorting dc, getting up to go, chatting, it's not the best of times anyway imo.

Sounds like NV is trying to introduce things carefully, must be hard to remember everything! Hope it can all be resolved to the best solution for everyone :)

Glad your last assembly went well, Blue. We must make a date, or you'll be moved before we know it...next week anytime??

UniqueAndAmazing · 24/06/2013 16:10

that's when it used to be done - problem is, that there is music, and of course, you would have people missing out on communion, too. It also means that they're limited with time.

The chapel they use is set apart from the rest of the church, so it isn't a natural thoroughfare iyswim.

UniqueAndAmazing · 24/06/2013 16:17

anyway, doesn't matter, because I've just done a fuck-up of my own.

I have been trying to get a proof of a book about Paul for NV, because I thought he might find it useful.
I emailed the publisher asking if he could have one, saying that he promised to review it and wanted to use it for a study group, and could probably also recommend it to the christian bookshop.
I copied him in on it, and he replied to me "I am grateful that you've made the effort to trying to get this book to me, but please do not put words in my mouth or tell someone that i've promised to do something when I haven't, as that puts me in a potentially very awkward position... "
fuck!
I hadn't even thought when I wrote my email that I'd put words into his mouth, or promised something for him! I must have put into my own head the caveat "if he can get the book he will probably promise" etc, but obviously, being a total twat, I didn't - I put the short hand "he promises".
I'm totally embarrassed that I've done that (and in writing too, so I can't even pretend it was a misunderstanding)
I am pretty sure that the publisher won't assume that he will definitely do a review, and (unfortunately) it's the kind of thing we put all the time - I always promise to write a review when I've read/used a book, but sometimes don't get round to it because I don't get a chance to read the book. Why does my brain not have any attachment to my mouth/fingers?
He probably thinks I'm a stupid bint now. :(

UniqueAndAmazing · 24/06/2013 17:06

I've just sent an apologetic email to the publisher for lying to them (well, basically to say that I was wrong to put NV in that position)
I feel fucking dreadful.
:(
I was only trying to do something nice!

Dutchoma · 24/06/2013 17:15

Things like that can make you feel so awful. Only done with the best intentions. God sees the heart and probably NV will too. He has made his point.

UniqueAndAmazing · 24/06/2013 17:23

and the publisher is going to go ConfusedHmmConfused when she gets my emails...

can i have a time machine please?

madhairday · 24/06/2013 17:45

Unique, Oma is so right. God knows your heart and knows it was done out of good thoughts and intentions.

Might be worth having a little chat with NV, explaining and apologising for getting words the wrong way round, I'm sure he'll be understanding about it.

un MN hugs for you. Thanks Wine

UniqueAndAmazing · 24/06/2013 21:02

it's all okay. I sent another email to NV telling him what I said to the publisher and apologising with explanation
he replied he knew I was trying to be nice. said he appreciated me being honest to the publisher and said he didn't think bad of me.
all done. saw him half an hour later on.the way home and it was like nothing had happened. (ie he didn't mention it and was all jolly smiles as normal)
if only it was so easy to make amends for all mistakes Grin

UniqueAndAmazing · 24/06/2013 21:04

(actually if only it were so easy not to make stupid mistakes in the first place)
I just get carried away when I have a nice idea.

Bluetinkerbell · 24/06/2013 22:00

unique phew :)
mhd when are you free next week?

Our landlords are finally agreeing to surrendering our contract early if we pay for the reletting costs. Which is just shy of a months rent, which is a lot but still better than 2 months rent.

madhairday · 25/06/2013 19:49

Blue will have a look at my diary

Just testing something

madhairday · 25/06/2013 19:51

I'm trying to pack for retreat and I've been hunting out of the hot water bottle as it is just so cold at the place I'm going to. It is a bit much when we are about to go into July! This retreat is the one they send you on before priesting so my mind should be focused on higher or deeper things and all I can think of is how to stay warm....

Bluetinkerbell · 26/06/2013 07:55

Oh which diocese green? My MIL is priested on Saturday

madhairday · 26/06/2013 09:59

Oooh I know a super cold retreat house too...maybe they all are? Grin

Green, so exciting - may you know God's super blessings on you these few days!
