Just curious - how many muslims are on mumsnet?

Hello/Salaam,

I know mumsnet has a wide and diverse population and I tend to recognise some MN usernames as regulars. Just intrigued to know how big/small a community it may be.

Of course, I respect that there may be those who do not wish to even identify themselves for various reasons - which is fine too.

I am not asking for 'religiousness' levels or any vital stats! Nor is this a muslim-only thread or an 'no non-muslims' thread.
If you really wish to tell me that you are not a muslim, that is fine too :)

Yeah, I had the same thing, and in fact I just stuck to maternity/feeding bras, as I'm still breastfeeding anyway (not for much longer though).

Interesting article cuddleup I recognise a lot of what those women are saying. Think it goes much deeper than the dress code though. I also feel like I no longer compete with men in order to be equally valued. Like I can be female (and really female!) and proud, if that makes sense.

I liked it - not because of their adoption of a new dress code - but because I really admired the passion of these young women for their new found faith. They sounded so mature. WOnderful! I agree with the sentiment about western culture can seem so shallow and really doesn't improve the lot of women. Personally I dread my sweet little DD becoming a teenager...

Ok I've just read the comments posted on the Economist article. They are horrid and racist. They remind me of a recent incident in Chipping Norton in David Cameron's constituency. The local Muslim population (a small group of people) wanted to use a room in a former shop as their mosque. The council approved the change of use but then the owner of the shop received threatening phone calls and has now refused to rent the shop to the local muslim community because of the threats.

Crescent, my mum and dad used to invite our neighbours over for tea quite often. Used to be really nice. It made one of our neighbours change her mind about selling up and leaving the area - we were the only pakistani muslms in the area.

Perhaps we should entitle the next thread 'come and have a cup of tea with a Muslim', 'the Muslim tearoom', of course then we would have to decide whether we would allow sheeshas or not...at least that's what happens in my town every time a cafe run my Muslims opens up! I can assure you that Salafis are very friendly believe in the oneness, tawheed; no shirk or biddah.
Following the quran and the sunnah.

Salafi is the path of the first three generations of Muslims,known as "salaf",as the Prophet (swallallaahu alaihi wassallam) said:

"The best of mankind is my generation,then those who came after them,then those who came after them"(Saheeh Bukhari and Saheeh Muslim)

So the "salaf" are the pious earliest generations of Muslims. This title refers to the Companions of the Prophet (swallallaahu alaihi wassallam),their followers and those who followed them. their importance was emphasised by the Proiphet (swallallaahu alaihi wassallam) in his saying:

"There shall not cease to remain a group from my nation victorious upon the Truth,they are unharmed by those who abandon them and those who oppose them. They will remain in that state until they fight the False messiah,the Dajjaal"(Saheeh Muslim)

The Prophet (swallallaahu alaihi wassallam) clarified that this group would be his companions (may Allaah be pleased with them) and those who followed them when he (swallallaahu alaihi wassallam) said:

"And this nation of Muslims will divide into 73 sects,all of them will go to the Fire except one."

and when asked which is the saved sect, he replied:

"That which I and my Companions are upon today."(Authentic hadeeth in Tirmizi)

So a "Salafi",therefore is any individual who keenly and sincerely follows the way of the Salaf to the best of his ability.

Do you know of any muslim events, gathering, conferences...etc around London? I want to physically meet other muslims and learn more about Islam. No matter what we know about our religion there is always more to learn. I am also interested in making new muslim friends
