I thought seeing as our other thread has gone somewhere into the oblivion that is old MN pages, I would start us up again anew for a new term. This is a place for those who are Christians (and anyone who's not, we're not an exclusive little club) Grin to chat about life, theology, church, any other stuff and of course Graham Kendrick, as nickel would not forgive me if I forgot to mention him Grin

So all welcome, old and new, it would be fun to chat and chew over anything that comes to mind. Lurkers say hello!

Anyone got a nice juicy topic to get the ball rolling then? Or if not come say hi anyway and tell us how you are doing. :)

and he's got most of the words wrong Shock

SESthebrave · 13/02/2013 16:51

Love the cartoon Nickel Grin
Is there a way of softening the honest version. If the optimistic one isn't truthful it won't be productive.

MHD - how are you at the moment? Hope your health is doing much better.

I have done a very bad thing today....

I only had time for one small pancake yesterday before heading out to RCIA and there was lots of mixture left so I've had pancakes today! Does it make a difference that I at least made the mixture yesterday?!

nickelbabe · 13/02/2013 17:01

hmm, I'll probably run it by you when I've done it Grin

nickelbabe · 13/02/2013 17:02

yy, you can count the pancakes as yesterday's food Wink

SESthebrave · 13/02/2013 17:07

I knew I could rely on you to rid me of my Catholic guilt Wink

MadHairDay · 13/02/2013 17:25

Grin at the furtive pancake eating

nickel, it's meant to be slow, and buildy uppy, and he has added a chorussy thing. I think it's lovely. Passion is basically a humongous gathering (60,000 or so) in some big concert place in the states with loads of different christian artists, so a worship fest, some teaching too iirc. It's the hugeness of it that appeals to me so much - love worshipping in big crowds, and 60,000 would be beyond amazing I think Grin

SES, thanks, I'm doing pretty well at the moment :)

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 13/02/2013 17:30

massive crowds sounds far too euphoric for me, sorry. :(
I like big, but not in that kind of way.
not for Godiness anyway.
okay for a rock concert.

but it sounds like you love it, and that's all that matters :)

Dutchoma · 13/02/2013 20:04

Right, we used to have English pancakes on Shrove Tuesday (missed out this year as I can't cook when Bob is in the room) and Dutch pancakes the rest of the year. Problem solved.

nickelbabe · 13/02/2013 20:05
Grin

we might need to see a Dutch pancake recipe...

Dutchoma · 13/02/2013 20:09

Well, milk, eggs bit of oil, mix. Add flour till it covers the back of a spoon, some salt...bake. What's different? Nothing I should hope.

MadHairDay · 13/02/2013 20:48

Big crowds for Godiness is Good. Don't diss euphoria [grin[

MadHairDay · 14/02/2013 10:19

Oops sorry about last night Blush

we had Valentine's dinner early as dh busy tonight.

I'm interested in why you feel that a big event like that can't be 'Godly' nickel...I guess it puts me in mind of the passage from revelation - 'thousands upon thousands, myriads on myriads worshipping' - there's something that stirs the spirit. I guess that's the 'euphoric' thing - and I don't see anything bad about that. I guess there is a fine line somewhere between that and a hyped up atmosphere - there has to be something of that I suppose, by the very nature of so many all together - but it's the individual hearts and attitudes of worship that matters, and whether such a thing bears fruit in their lives - I always find something like this strengthens me and changes things somehow.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 14/02/2013 10:52

didn't say it couldn't be Godly, just not how i like my Godiness.

yes,
"thousands of thousands stand around thy throne o lord most high.
Ten thousand times ten thousand sound thy praise
but who am i?"

nickelbabe · 14/02/2013 10:53

euphoric, yes.
Grin

I like my worship to be in my spirit, not my body Grin

MadHairDay · 14/02/2013 11:09

Fairy nuff :)

I like both. I like a bit of holding TVs every now and again Grin

Grin at early Valentines MHD!
Valentines normally gets a bit lost for me as my birthday is the 15th and - eek! - this year it's the big 4-0 Shock
DH is taking me out tomorrow. I think we're going to a show in the West End :)

As for crowds, euphoria, etc my view is that whatever brings you closer to God is what's right for you. In sure heaven will be full of crowds worshipping and singing praise but I hope there will be a few quiet corners too!
Pre-DC, I used to love going to see Delirious in concert and really felt renewed and uplifted by it. One day I hope to go to "Celebrate" when the DC are old enough. I do also enjoy the contemplative scripted type prayer and meditating by myself too. I'm a bit pic'n'mix I guess!

nickelbabe · 14/02/2013 13:47
Shock 40!
Bluetinkerbell · 14/02/2013 13:59

Grin at holding TV's mhd are you free tomorrow? Late afternoon ish?
I'm starting work again on Monday! Eeek!

MaryBS · 14/02/2013 17:21

Was singing the chorus of Michael W. Smith's Awesome God, and I thought I'd add a few extra 'verses'. Might be a bit cringy for people (first verse is his chorus), but it is heartfelt...

Our God is an awesome God
who reigns in heaven above
With wisdom power and love
Our God is an awesome God

Jesus is an awesome God
Who came from heaven above
To save us by his love
Jesus is an awesome God

Spirit is an awesome God
Who flows from Jesus? love
To stay when things get rough
Spirit is an awesome God

Give thanks for an awesome God
Our aim is heaven above
We know this through God?s love
Give thanks for an awesome God

MadHairDay · 14/02/2013 18:37

Amen, Mary!

Blue - yes I am! Do you want to come over? :)

OP posts:
Bluetinkerbell · 14/02/2013 18:44

Yes! Will have to wait till DH gets home from work, around 4pm ish, then me and the girls can come over! :)

nickelbabe · 14/02/2013 18:48

:(

I haven't got any rl friends :(

SESthebrave · 14/02/2013 20:06

Mary - I find those words beautiful, not cringy. Thank you for sharing.
