Safe haven chat thread for believers

I thought it be lovely to start a" safe haven"thread for all the believers on mumsnet. It doesn't matter what religion or spirituality you are, the important thing is a belief in God or higher power that unites us.

The idea is too talk with other believers to share ideas, thoughts and feelings or even general musings.
So come in and relax!

please can I respectfully ask that this is not a debating thread to challenge people. While I am not the mn police, there are other threads to debate on or please start your own. This is a safe haven

If they were a troll, God help the next poor person who posts that type of situation.

Starwisher · 06/04/2012 21:19

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this. It's been on my mind fr days. Here is my question:

How does God answer prayers without effecting freewill?

Interesting. Well God can give peace to someone within, which may help them feel better and change their behaviour.

MonsterBookOfTysons · 06/04/2012 21:23

Sophie I agree. :(
Star I believe He answers prayers by making the thing being asked about easier, rather than 'sorting' it 100%
Like if I pray asking for help for a sick friend, I believe He won't make the friend better but will ease her suffering and take away some of the intensity IYKWIM.

Ok. So dh lost his job and there is no jobs in the Uk with his speciality. But a really good one abroad has come up (actually its strange how it happened but that's another story, but quite strange)

Its the job of his dreams in work terms. Really exciting and complex.

If he prays he gets the job, what would God do? he couldnt make the director interviewing him give dh the job could he as would effect freewill of that man?

So how would it work?

OP posts:
MonsterBookOfTysons · 06/04/2012 21:30

Ok I think He would give your dh extra confidence so he earnt the job on his own. :) Obviously if all his other competition had prayed I have no idea [bugrin]

hiddenhome · 06/04/2012 21:31

I pray that people are given the strength and internal resources to be able to cope with and, hopefully overcome, the difficulty. I don't imagine that God is like Santa Claus who goes around giving people stuff or magically helping them.

Starwisher · 06/04/2012 21:33

at the same time what if God knows the job is not right for our family. Would it work the other way as he makes sure dh doesnt get it?

I think I have been over thinking again... Typical me!

OP posts:
hiddenhome · 06/04/2012 21:33

Your dh would be given the confidence and ability to make a good interview and then he'd be in with a good chance of getting the job. I don't think that God would magically arrange for your dh to land the job, so nobody's free will would be affected.

hiddenhome · 06/04/2012 21:35

Hopefully, your dh would be given the wisdom to decide that the job wasn't right for him after all and reject any offer.

Starwisher · 06/04/2012 21:36

I think your right hidden... But then I also like to beleive along the lines of everything happens for a reason.. So if God isn't making certain things happen then, really, there is no reason for anything in our lives. It just "is"

MonsterBookOfTysons · 06/04/2012 21:36

If the job was not right for your family I think He would let you learn that for yourself, Fate.

Starwisher · 06/04/2012 21:38

What worries me as the job he just lost he was I only in for 2 months. He left a good company to take that job as it seemed perfect for our family

Turned out to be a nightmare. How come it seemed and felt right at the time....

OP posts:
MonsterBookOfTysons · 06/04/2012 21:40

Maybe that job has actually led to this one?

hiddenhome · 06/04/2012 21:40

What I wonder about is - is Satan as powerful as God because if you remove the Light, the Darkness is always there. The Light can only take the Darkness away temporarily. It's a constant struggle to keep the Darkness at bay. It never goes away, it never disappears, it's always there. Is having the ability to choose between the Light and the Darkness part of Man's freewill?

Starwisher · 06/04/2012 21:42

Wow that was weird. Just as I went to post that message, I got a feeling of "actually I did try to warn you" and suddenly all these memories came flooding in of all these red flags... But we ignored them.. I can see them now for had bad they were but we stuck our heads in the sand...

Wow what a strange experience just then....

hiddenhome · 06/04/2012 21:44

cool Smile

I wonder if God will sort that troll out? Hmm

Starwisher · 06/04/2012 21:48

That was cool. All this time I have been feeling a small bit of resentment that I didn't realise how much I was harbouring as I was blaming God for our penniless misery.

But it was our own greed that got us into trouble, frankly. I feel a bit more free now

Starwisher · 06/04/2012 22:07

Kal I'm sorry to about what you and your family are going through. Do you have any respite?

OP posts:
KalSkirata · 06/04/2012 22:43

9 hours a week

Starwisher · 06/04/2012 22:47

Aww, that's something I suppose, but I guess not enough either. I started a job working as a community paediatric respite worker.... I'm ashamed to say I didn't last too long. The toil on you emotionally and physically was horrendous. I

Hats of to you kal, because your a stronger person than me. How old is your dd?

I don't think God chooses to disable innocent children and make their families suffer. We're meant to be His hands and feet on earth, but are rubbish at helping and loving our neighbour as ourself, and that includes being rubbish at making our councils provide adequate respite, valuing and respecting everyone made in His image, praying for carers, being thankful for the gift of faith when we feel it, and patient with ourselves when we need to tell Him that we're feeling cross and really, couldn't He have come up with a better plan?.

God loves all His children, especially those most in need of Him. I don't know how I know that; somehow even on Good Friday service I close my mind to it. I really don't know why He hasn't organised the world to at least take the edge off the suffering and pain...
