A mate of mine wants to get in touch with her hippie side.

Any suggestions most welcome

Personally I find my sprout house (3 levels) really great for getting in touch with my hippie side.

Of course if you cannot find or afford such high tech hippiness - a jar work great too

this

atm my sprout house is chugging out sprouted lentils and alfalfa. The lentils make a great soup and alfalfa is great in a sandwich !!

Ooooooooooh Paps thank you. Can I start a sprout house too? How do oyu do it? The kids would love it!

I am getting in touch with all sorts of sides of myself and the hippy side just sounds calming and soothing at the moment. I am considering starting meditation classes but havent really got the time so any on line ones woudl be great.

Papillon · 05/12/2005 07:52

Since the Yurt and Bong land is so strong within us we could further our imagings there and try some meditation. Tamba was keen on doing some MSN meditations a while back.

Here are some sites I know alittle about that might tickle your hippie fancy

spirit and soul - quite like this place personally
spirits lights the way
googles thoughts on the matter of visualisation
realm of spirit

I was thinking this morning about how great it would be to start a website forum purely for visualisations and for imaginative places such as bong land etc. As well as my writings such a project would keep me busy. Oh and I have two kids (afterthought )

Speaking of which Tigermoth slept for about 5 or 6 hours last night!!!!

I was told I was 'bohemiam' merely because I let my then 2.5 year old wee in the garden

(of course the uptight, city-worker fella who said it may not be the best judge of hippydom but still ... its a quick tip)

snurk

Twiglett · 05/12/2005 07:56

'bohemian'

Papillon · 05/12/2005 07:58

Lots of info on Google about sprouting

Ok I admit it I am a total hippy !!
I too grow sprouts, lentils and chickpeas mostly.
I tie dye babygros & T shirts- yes really!!!
My dream holiday is touring the world in a type 2 VW camper !
We have family Jam sessions- grab an instrument and make music !! Great Fun !
Incense, candles- all that malarky.
The whole family do visualisations- very good for calming hyper kids down with ! My ds1's friends ask me to do them now when they come to play !! ( we visit the moon and jungles)
I also smell of patchouli- Love it, but also get recognised by friends before Im seen-just by the smell !
I love the whole chilled/hippy vibes thing !!
Glad to hear your lo Paps is doing well !!!

FlameRobin · 05/12/2005 11:33

Oooh yes, tie dying kids clothes brings out my inner hippy too!!!! I tend not to wear it so much myself except for my lovely tie dyed feeding bra (not really sure why though), but seeing DD running around in her little tops that she helped dye makes me feel all at peace!!!

Papillon · 05/12/2005 11:45

So any STYLE suggestions for how to be the HIPPIE

Afterall the Gypsy look is in this year this or these

OP posts:
Mummyvicky · 05/12/2005 11:48

Birkenstock sandles are a MUST- very comfy but not for the winter !
Floaty things, skirts, and flowy tops.
Necklaces with vintage glass beads etc
Tie dye- Obviously !!
Or Kaftans and sandles if your brave !!

FlameRobin · 05/12/2005 11:50

I love the trousers "handmade hippy clothes"

Papillon · 05/12/2005 11:52

What about good places to meditate online for the modern switched on electronic hippie babe?

smelling of incense is very important i think

sandwood or poutachouli the 2 big hippie favourites

OP posts:
Mummyvicky · 05/12/2005 11:54

I have never meditated online !! I need to be alone in the dark with candles and lying down usually- would like to try it though !!
Computers have bad vibes though, so I can't see it would work for me !!

Papillon · 05/12/2005 12:11

Rose quartz next to pooter can help with that vicky and a bowl of water when mediating.

I agree what works for me is dark spaces... my bed actually

OP posts:
FlameRobin · 05/12/2005 12:12

I fall asleep if I meditate in bed... very relaxed sleep, but not helpful if you weren't planning on sleeping

Papillon · 05/12/2005 12:13

How about we gather together some ideas for a Yurt... Bongland meditation that we can each try from our preferred position

bed
hippie bus
the underground
etc etc

then we can get together to discuss and enhance etc....??????????????

OP posts:
Papillon · 05/12/2005 12:15

energy work in bed keeps me up for hours flamerobin!!! but I have been known to snore and snort while meditating at yoga class

worse than farting in some intricate position imo done that too!!!!

OP posts:
LilacBump · 05/12/2005 12:15

flamerobin, the dalai lama said "sleep is the best meditation"

moondog · 05/12/2005 12:17

Ok....how about these (regular occurences chez Moondog)??

Do a lot of experimental cooking with beans and lentils
Listen to a lot of Hendrix,Joplin and the Dead
Sew whenever you have aspare moment (two more hours and my queen size patchwork quilt will be finished)
Develop a weakness for tiedye than can never be shaken off
If you Must smoke, make it a rollie
Go on alot of walks which involve foraging for nuts, berries and mushrooms.

I would say that all the above would take your friend to intermediate level.

(Where's that baby btw Papillon????)

FlameRobin · 05/12/2005 12:18

pmsl - I fell asleep in a yoga class too!!! I do fall asleep easily though, so it could just be that I like sleep too much . I even started nodding off during witchfest the other year...

My best place seems to be the rocking chair in DD's room.

Mummyvicky · 05/12/2005 13:52

oooh yes extend the yurt!!!
Ive placed Rose quartz by the hardrive -thank you! Cacti are meant to help too.
I meditate and do card readings on my bed- it's a real comfort zone- holds happy memories of co sleeping and breastfeeding- the mattress has the stains to prove it!!

Papillon · 05/12/2005 14:01

MOONDOG you intermediate hippie you Here is the response to your question....

ShortAndStripySolsticer · 05/12/2005 19:41

LMAO @ 'hippie' tuttut!

Apparently, (seeing as how we're doing the label thing) I'm a hippie/earthmother type.

Lavender oil and rescue remedy always in my bag, assorted homeopathic remedies elsewhere.

House strewn with tin whistles/ drums/ guitar/ flute/ etc and books aplenty on spiritual/emotional awareness/ green living/ etc

Crystals everywhere, candles, aromatherapy, level 1 reiki.

Loads of knitting/sewing. Home grown fruit and veg, herbs, etc.

Trips to loads of mucho enlightening festivals for next year being planned, oh, and rollies and waist length dreads

I'm actually quite 'conventional' compared to a lot of my friends!

glitterfairy · 05/12/2005 20:01

WHat a fab thread this has turned out to be much browsing is required and am going to look up some bean recipes immediately. They are of course cheap whihc is much needed at the moment.

THanks everyone. Look forward ot meditating in the bong land and yurt.

moondog · 05/12/2005 22:16

Er...what do crystals actually do??????
