the first one is nearly full.

Anyone welcome, it's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

Lyra - I've just had a "coffee over the keyboard" moment lol.

madhairday · 23/02/2011 09:33

Oh 'eck. These drugs are having odd effects. Just read essences first line as 'oh no! Glad you managed to find a friendly caretaker. What does your priest/vicar think?' Grin seem to be slightly skewed.

Morning everyone, anyway :)

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 09:58

oooo err madhairday Grin

what a nightmare lyra

esssence - the vicar kind of agrees, although she doesn't take it, she still doesn't take many of the evening services since she was quite ill a few years ago. However, the outrage it would cause if it were to be dropped (at least for the ime being) would be huge..........ironically I think that one of the biggest objectors would be someone who, afaik, has never been to Evensong Hmm

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 23/02/2011 10:31

I've had a similar problem myself this morning lyra - not with a mooncup or a caretaker or a netball match, but certainly a bit of leakage. :( blimmin' periods.
which leads me nicely onto essence's point about praying for PG. at the momnet, i'm being philosophical, saying, we're not too old (although if it happened right now, DH would be retired before the child leave school!), and my business couldn't take the risk of me having to take time off. so it's a good thing and God's getting it about right for now.
i hope that we've put in enough time and effort for Him for us to be rewarded. God, I just thought, Abraham was ancient when he was blessed! Shock

nickelbabe · 23/02/2011 10:33

B that's about right - the biggest objectors are the ones that don't bother supporting.
I still think you should merge it.
how about, calling all evening services "Evensong" but have them as different formats every time so:
"evensong with Taize"
"Modern worship evensong"
"evensong is said"
etc.
then you could quite easily drop the BCP service with noone noticing....

lyra41 · 23/02/2011 10:40

hi Nickel

I will pray for God's will to be done with your fertility.

I feel totally lazy this morning, so far, have stayed in bed til now, still in pj's, ds2 is downstairs watching tv and playing wii games, having had breakfast with dh and dd. Dd's gone into town where she's doing some filming for a sort of public information film she's in about aunti-social behaviour on public transport (for the police), ds pops up from time to time, I'll get up soon. Everyone deserves the odd duvet day don't they?

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 10:41

no - we couldn't really do that - as each service is very distinct and if anyone saw Evensong they'd be expecting mag, nunc, psalm, respones etc. Evening worship has it's own service format, praise service is a very loosely based, hymn, reading, hymn, prayer, hymn, testimony, hymn type affair - and taize is, well Taize. If you see what I mean? We get different people (in general - though some are regulars at all of tehm) at different service styles.

Dilly
aaargh, has it wrecked your keyboard? I hope you can get rid of that hideous old coffee stench!

DillyDaydreaming · 23/02/2011 11:05

lol - no am okay - keyboard is pretty knackered anyway s DS leave all kinds of deposits on there Hmm

Now folks - "Pray As You Go" is beautiful. It is fairly Catholic but the prayers and Bible readings are for everyone and the music chosen to accompany prayers is "out of this world" relaxing. Thought you'd all like to know - not all are available on iTunes but I listened to one last night for last week sometime and have listend to todays one via their website. Oh so relaxing Smile

nickelbabe · 23/02/2011 11:07

thanks lyra :)

nickelbabe · 23/02/2011 11:13

B i see. tricky.
I was thinking that the service would be the same basic format but with differences in music and wording iyswim.
i'll have a think (can't guarantee i'll come up with anything - looks like yu might end up having to lose evensong. it's not worth the elec bill for 6 people! :( )

oh, i wonder if you could (if you have separate rooms) have both services on the same evening.
say, if you have a smaller room to have evensong in, and have the other type of service in the main room.
you'd save on power and staff, cos you'd only need a reader for the evensong service, and share sidespeople etc.
If you wanted organ rather than a piano (don't know what your piano's like - i've seen digital pianos that can sound organ(ish) ), then you could record the music on the organ durign the week and play it through a sound system in the little room. you don't need it very loud, because if it's a small room, the acoustics would be more "snug".

DillyDaydreaming · 23/02/2011 11:15

Oh nickel - I'll pray for you too. I was told at 35 I'd NEVER have any children and within the next 2 years conceived twice (1st one ended with miscarriage) the second one reslted in my 8 year old (so am now 45 in case you hadn't guessed Grin).

nickelbabe · 23/02/2011 11:19

i'm not writing myself off! just DH Grin
i'm only 34, so i've still got time. (i hope!)
but thank you for your prayers, it means a lot to me :)

essenceofSES · 23/02/2011 13:09

Please add me to the fertility prayers! I turned 38 last week, have 21mo DS and would love DC#2

nickelbabe · 23/02/2011 13:14

you sound more in need of it than i do, essence! (not saying you're old! Grin)

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 13:18

arf nickel.

I am hideously excited - my Spring Harvest newsletter has just arrived - it's only 6 1/2 weeks until we go.

but but but in the back you can pre-order this years music books/CD's.........and I'm SOOOOOOOO tempted to order them - even though it's only 6 1/2 weeks to wait and they'll probably be all sorts of offers on music (which I shall buy hidesou amounts of no doubt Blush).

OP posts:
essenceofSES · 23/02/2011 13:22

Nickel Grin

Baroque - ooh Spring Harvest! I've never been but I did buy one of the music books years ago!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 13:24

yes yes I'm so excited - I've wanted to go for years but unplanned babies, depression, marriage break-ups, finances have stopped me until now.

There's a group of us going from church (which very happily includes my 2 closest friends in the entire world) and so it's my first time.

I do have 2 spring harvest books - which people have brought me back in previous years - but this year I intend to blow the budget spend a little on books for myself while I'm there Grin

thanksamillion · 23/02/2011 13:44

Which one are you going to Baroque? We went to minehead about 7 years ago (pre DCs). I've got a few friends who are speaking this year I think.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 13:45

going to Skegness Grin

am very very excited - can't believe it's only 6 1/2 weeks away Shock!

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 23/02/2011 13:51

are you going with your DCs?

looks like a bit of a holiday camp Wink

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 13:53

yes taking the DS's with me, and 2 others that are going are taking their children so there'll be 8 children and 6 adults going from our church. Am hoping to escape to at least one of the late night sessions one night leaving the vicar and friend "baby sitting" Grin

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 23/02/2011 13:54

Grin at the vicar babysitting!

i've just been perusing the website - looks like good fun

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 23/02/2011 13:56

well it's more my friend that would be baby sitting - but the DS's and I are sharing an apartment with the vicar and my friend........so by default the vicar will also be babysitting Grin

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 23/02/2011 16:04
