the first one is nearly full.

Anyone welcome, it's basically a "what happened in church/spiritual life/anything else you want to chat about that's vaguely related (or not) to churchy stuff.

morning all!
just working my way through this weekend's posts!

PA - the link wasn't quite as random as it seems - i was looking for videos of For the Fruits of His Creation, and the description of that video said he sings along to it at some point. I did listen to a lot of it, and sure enough, he does sing to it! Grin sorry it seemed tenuous to you! Grin

nickelbabe · 21/02/2011 10:28

welcome to the thread essenceofSES - i notice you're a Beauitful South fan, so I like you already! Grin

and welcome to all the other newbies!

i'm so happy this concept (of a thread) has worked! Grin

thanks "nickel I did say we try to make sure our newsletter isn't too much like a roundrobin! If anyone wants to see it PM me!"

i know you did! Grin i was just playing! Grin

mhd - i really want to see your church. ours is a huge church too (i think it's a similar capacity to yours), but the organ does work. okay, we have about 44 each week, but at least 8 of those are in the choir, so we're hidden behind an arch (ish).
one thing we do, is have a microphone on in the lecturn, all the way through the service, so when we sing in the choir, it goes around the church. All you need is some loud singing somewhere and it helps people feel confident to sing up.

nickelbabe · 21/02/2011 10:34

Baroque - when i made the flyers for our Advent Carol Service, I put that it was the 28th December. Blush
I even handed about 5 out to be posted around before some kind person mentioned it.
i had people coming up to me saying "i'm sure the poster in xx's window says December, am i going mad?"

I'd printed out 50 flyers, all on bright yellow paper.
and i couldn't get anymore bright yellow paper, so the reprint had to be done on boring pale/pastel yellow.
so, not only a huge mistake, but also an expensive one.

nickelbabe · 21/02/2011 11:35

where is everyone today?
it's half-term isn't it? out with the kids.....
Shock

I recorded Evensong last night.
it turned out really well, actually.

now, this is the sad part - we got home from Evensong, then plugged the camcorder into the telly and watched it all the way through ! Grin
we do have a life, honest.
Grin

MaryBS · 21/02/2011 11:42

Am here. Watching a film with the kids. Ought to do some ironing...

thanksamillion · 21/02/2011 12:03

I'm here. It's not half term here so DD1 is at school, DS is making a train track and DD2 is sleeping. Should really be cooking but am having a cup of tea instead Brew.

It's miserable and snowy here today so feel like hibernating by the fire.

nickelbabe · 21/02/2011 12:08

oh, i would love a cup of tea! Brew

i am going through my Evensong video and extracting music to put on YouTube.

PositiveAttitude · 21/02/2011 16:10

I'm here! Half term here and we are sat around watching "SOcial network" having just got back from a long walk. Feeling exhausted and exhilarated and ust goooooooood!!

BAroque, ok, yes quite a blooper then. Blush When I first started my job we had a lovely minister and after about a month I went to him and said I just could not do the job any more because I wasnt sleeping on Saturday nights because I was so worked up about the fact that I ahd probably made a mess of the newsheet each week. He laughed and then every week he would gently remind me that nobody was going to die if there was a mistake. He was lovely. Smile

Off for Family time........

PositiveAttitude · 21/02/2011 16:11

Terrible spelling!! Blush My fingers dont catch up with my brain sometimes!!!

nickelbabe · 21/02/2011 16:11

I wouldn't be able to hold my patience with someone like that PA .
i'd have to tell them to button it.

DillyDaydreaming · 21/02/2011 17:53

Getting back into reading my Bible - have a Catholic edition now and there seem to be a few extra books within it but that's all.

Re-reading Matthew now and am remembering things I have forgotten from the past such as Herod asking the wise men to let him know where the infant messiah was to be found so that he could "pay his respects" (ahem).

Just forgotten how lovely it is to read about the life of Jesus.

So - can anyone recommend a good Bible study website or a journal/booklet I could buy. I know I am moving into Catholicism but apart from the extra books all the stuff is going to be the same.

lyra41 · 21/02/2011 18:26

Hi pos

we are watching the social network tonight too. what did you think?

Dilly - good for you reading the Bible. I have quite enjoyed "Inspiring Women everyday" by Wendy Virgo and Liz Hansford. It's a daily devotional. There's lots to choose from on their website cwr.org.uk

in fact I could do with ordering a new one, mine is well out of date. let me know if you choose anything Dilly, I quite fancy "Inspiring Women ? Prepared for Spiritual Battle" by Anne Le Tissier

MaryBS · 21/02/2011 18:45

Dilly, not strictly just bible study, but I can recommend www.loyolapress.com. And its Catholic! :)

I use the 3 minute daily retreats most days for a short period of calm!

lyra41 · 21/02/2011 18:47

Hi Mary

How are you? Have you eaten yet? what did you have? we had noodles with chicken, peppers, garlic, spr onions, soy sauce and ginger. Not quite enough of it so still a bit hungry, but dieting, so will have to eat fruit.

see you later, off to put ds2 to bed.

MaryBS · 21/02/2011 18:50

Yup, we had sausages, cooked in a tomato red pepper and onion sauce, with pasta.

Am on my way out to a church meeting.. please offer up a prayer, important things affecting the future...

lyra41 · 21/02/2011 19:12

all done Mary, for God;'s will to be done at the meeting.

madhairday · 21/02/2011 19:49

nickel here is our church

I think you're right, it's to do with having some confident people leading the singing. dh always sings up well but there is a lot of hesitancy still somehow.

(that's also a link to the website I set up for our church :))

DillyDaydreaming · 21/02/2011 20:37

Thanks Mary and also Lyra for your suggestion too. Both sites are great and I just love the three minute retreat.

essenceofSES · 21/02/2011 20:49

Hello again and thanks for the welcomes!

You are chatty lot :)

Mary - I love the look of the 3-minute retreat! I really struggle to find focussed time each day and I think that will really help :)

Dilly - I try to use this I have a subscription for a year and it arrives like a monthly magazine with the daily mass readings together with morning and evening prayer.

I'll try to catch up again tomorrow!

Ses xx

PositiveAttitude · 21/02/2011 21:20

Lyra. The Social Network film was good. I watched it first on Saturday and enjoyed it, but had felt that I really needed to concentrate to understand it all. Today, I was able to watch it again and I enjoyed it far more today. I never watch films, I hate films and I can count the number of films I have watched fully more than once on my fingers. So, this was a bit of a first for me!! I felt really sorry for the guy really, but then I am a big softie!!! Smile

Nickel, believe me it is really trying my patience!! But dont get me started on that!!!
