Do not feel
totally
personally
irrevocably
responsible for everything.
That's my job.
Love, God

I like that a lot Grin

Well, here's the round-up:

MadHairDay - Prayers needed for friend's DD who is anorexic and is still not eating. She is being tube fed, but she keeps pulling the tube out. Sad Prayers for the girl from MHD's children's school who was recently run over outside the school. She is through the worst, but has broken legs and pelvis - a swift healing process please, Lord. Prayers for a friend of MHD's whose DH has recently left her and for her DH Gran who recently had a Stroke. Lots of prayers for MHD's lovely DD who is suffering horribly from Psoriasis and has Dyspraxia and is experiencing bullying at school Sad Prayers for MHD struggles health-wise too!!

MrsC - Prayers for her sis who has just started a new job after being a SAHM for 5 yrs - how is she settling in, MrsC? Prayers also for a friend's mum who had a cancer DX, but died very suddenly and unexpectedly recently; and for the little family from MrsC's Toddler Group who recently lost their DH / daddy.

Caz - Finding the New Year so hard. DH should get some test results back soon - has he had them Caz? Caz's health has not been the best recently either and she has had a DX of Tonsillitis again. Boost her up, Lord. Prayers also for the family and friends of the 8 year old from Caz' class that died recently.

Amber- Prayers for the friends and family of E who died recently. Amber very bravely got through her recent op; but is now facing 6 months of Chemo followed by an Op for a DX of breast cancer. The cancer has been caught quite early and is treatable, but it is a fast-moving sort of Cancer and Amber is awaiting further tests to make sure the cancer hasn't spread. Hold Amber so so close at this time, Lord - and her family too as they come to terms with having to support their "rock". xx

CaptainCaveman - Prayers required for her DH in his hunt for a new job .....

JentlyDoesIt - Is coping with DP in prison, but struggling too - needing lots of prayers for resilience and strength, especially for her two little ones. Place lots of amazing, supportive people around her, Lord. xx

barleywood - Needs prayers in her hunt for a new church to go to; and to contribute to as well ....

TeaandCakePlease - Is struggling with juggling ..... she feels in despair with her OU degree and with the task of life in general. xx

NotQuiteGrownUp - Popped by to ask for prayers as she is struggling with juggling too!! xx

Mary - Has been quite down of late and needs lots of encouragement and prayer Smile Please pray for Mary's DD's friend who is currently not eating and being tube fed; for S who trained with Mary who is having tests following the discovery of a lump on her spine; and for Mary's DF who is facing brain surgery after a DX of Chiari Malformation - she has a DH and a young DS.

livvylouis - Popped by to ask for prayers for her FIL who had been admitted to hospital with a racing heart.

NotSoFarNow - Needs lots of prayers for relationships - particularly with one of her DDs. Two of her DDs have recently dropped out of college and NSFN is struggling to know how best to support them and get alongside them.

Hermya - Has been having problems with anxiety of late. Is fretful and worried.

BoxofDelights - Has been spending a lot of time recently sorting out her financial position. Her anxiety is still bad and life is still tough.

blackeyedsusan - Is in the process of a possible separation from her violent husband. She has 2 children of 2 and 4 yrs; and is struggling.

practicallyimperfect - Prayers for the family and friends of Ben, a 17 yr old from the school she works at who was found dead in a river a few days ago. It was an accidental death and he looks to have slipped and fallen in on his way home from a gig late at night. Sad

shineoncrazydiamond - Asked for prayers for a DF's DS, little Archie who sadly died after complications surrounding a traumatic delivery. Archie was a much wanted baby and it is a terrible, tragic loss for the couple Sad

gingercurl - Asked for prayers for her relationship with her DS who is rather a "mummy's boy" - he won't let her DH do anything for him at all and it is taking it's toll.

BlessedAssurance - Her close friend was stabbed to death in S.Africa while defending another friend Sad Prayers for all those who knew and love him. xx

shieldbug - Popped by to ask for prayers for a distant relation of hers (13 yr old boy) who was having a big operation today. The operation could possibly leave him with difficulties being able to eat or, at worst, brain damage. So hoping the op went as well as possible ....

CaptainDippy - It would be great if you could all pray for a dear friend of mine who has terminal breast cancer. Due to being a "guinea pig" for some pioneering drugs, she has been with us far longer than we ever could've hoped or expected (10 yrs!!!!); but the drugs are no longer working and she knows it is nearly time to say "goodbye". She has zoomed off to go and see family in Australia and will be embarking on a tour around the UK once she is back. She 's an incredible woman and I just pray she can do everything she wants to do before she gets too poorly and that the end will be so beautiful for her, because she deserves it.

GET PRAYING!!!!

Smile

I've been at SSW now for about 10 years so I probably know who they are MHD Smile I was away for a year with Es H's work in 2008/ 09 but returned again of course on separation. I am thinking of maybe trying the community church in Watford 2 good couples I know now go there. Be nice for a change to go somewhere else if the kids are happy in their Sunday school.

Teaandcakeplease · 08/03/2011 19:42

What are people doing for lent?

MaryBS · 08/03/2011 19:50

Am reading the bible in 40 days see here

There are reflections on the website, written by people around the diocese - mine will be up there on 17 March...

madhairday · 08/03/2011 19:51

Will FB you teaandcake :)

I'm giving up snacks and chocolate....

KentMum2008 · 08/03/2011 20:07

Hi, I'm new too....I was born and raised Anglican although I stopped attending regularly once I reached about 14. I saw Church as somewhere we went on Holy Days, and not every Sunday. I moved away from my hometown shortly after DD was born. I've since had another baby who is now two. I haven't been to church since moving as I'm not particularly confident and have been finding it hard to find a place in this new-ish community. The Anglican church near us isn't particularly child friendly (no sunday school, big and echoey, not a place for a noisy 4 yr old and 2 yr old) and my somewhat unofficial marriage isn't recognized by the Catholics Blush
I have a good friend nearby who invites me to go to the Baptist church with her family, we've been to Messy Church with them a few times. However because I was raised Anglican, I'm finding it hard to adjust to the very different style of worship.
I have been unhappy (for various reasons, too many to name) for some time and I feel sure that I need God in my life. I know its not a miraculous fix-all but I hope it will be the beginning of a more settled and happy life for my family. I'm just not sure how to go about it. I really need some guidance on how to adjust to life in a Baptist community.
Sorry for the essay, I've never really spoke about this before.

Teaandcakeplease · 08/03/2011 20:11

It's a big change, when I first attended Soul Survivor church after my Anglican church I grew up in, I was pretty freaked out tbh. It took a long time to get used to it all. Are there any other churches you could try as well?

This is a very safe place to chat and lurk and ask for prayer so welcome and here's a cup of Brew

KentMum2008 · 08/03/2011 20:26

Thank you Mmmm, galaxy hot chocolate, my fave Grin

This is a very small town, there's only 3 churches. There are a few in surrounding areas but I don't drive so those are my only options.
But did you get used to it in the end? I'm quite happy to try it, particularly as I feel that this Lent I need to do something purposeful, not just give up chocolate Blush And I already have friends there which was part of what terrified me about going to a new church, not knowing anyone. I go to a toddler group held there and know a few of the mums from nursery.

LadyOfTheManor · 08/03/2011 20:38

Tea&Cakes, we call him Mike Pillow-Factory (from back in the day when he was fat-ter)!

The worship is incredible!

I'm giving up my Blackberry for lent. It's going to be a long 40 days.

MaryBS · 08/03/2011 20:41

I've given up sarcasm for Lent on a couple of occasions Blush. That was really hard!

Teaandcakeplease · 08/03/2011 21:00

Well I did, Soul Survivor isn't Baptist but it's very lively and the holy spirit moves there and that's what freaked me out. My old church was quite traditional. I'd keep going but perhaps sit near the back and keep asking God to help you to receive and be at peace and to guide you if there is somewhere else he wants you to be instead. He always answers, it may take time and it's not always the answer we expect, but he is faithful Smile

Pillow factory? LOL

WisteriaWoman · 08/03/2011 21:24

Re: Lent

I'm giving up leavened bread to see if it helps an underlying medical condition and am using the 40 days as a good time scale.
I wanted to give up my nightly glass of wine but not sure that is possible..! Hmm hick.!

Me and DD are taking up diary writing and sewing so that we have something to show at the end of 40 days.Grin

My Russian Orthodox friends go vegan for Lent which is hugely impressive IMO.

DO - hope Bob is ok, thinking of you both.

KentMum2008 · 08/03/2011 21:25

I feel like there's a reason I've become friends with the lady I spoke about. We have quite a lot in common and she makes me feel at ease, which I really need (being a shy bod and all)
I will also have a hard time adjusting to the different view that non-catholics have of Mary, and the place she takes. Although we're from an Anglican church, we classed ourselves as Anglo-Catholic (there actually is such a thing!!) as the church was very traditional, Roman Mass etc. Having been brought up to pray the Rosary, I don't know how comfortable I am with giving that up....

LadyOfTheManor · 08/03/2011 21:26

Tea&Cakes, it varied when we were about 15...Mike Pillow-fat tree/factory/crab tree etc.

We found it hilarious at the time. His kaftans hurt my eyes though.

Great speaker.

We threw water bombs at him once. Ha!

madhairday · 08/03/2011 22:08

Oh yes Mike PillowFactory. I remember seeing him (kaftans and all) at about 15 at some festival or other and loving him, have seen him many times since and kept that view, bless him, he's amazing :)

mangomay - welcome! Great that you have made this friend. It is hard going to different 'styles' though, I have been brought up anglican also but have gone elsewhere a number of times, ended up back here though, dh being a curate and all Grin

Hope you can find somewhere you feel fits you. Like tacp said, perhaps pray for peace, sit and observe for a bit, and see how you get on. :)

Teaandcakeplease · 08/03/2011 22:31

I'm sure you can find a balance that's right for you with God using your rosary beads still when you want to at home etc. I'm fairly ignorant about catholicism but I don't see why you have to give it all up iyswim? You could attend mass at a different church from time to time if you want to, if your H can look after the children, so you can have some quiet time with God? I'm not the most articulate person in the world Blush I certainly haven't studied Theology but I do like to think that God loves each one of us and enjoys the way we each interact with him individually and I'm sure he wouldn't want you to stop doing things you hold dear?

I'm sure the wiser ladies on here will have some words for you. I better get to bed as I'm failing miserably in what I want to say to you I think. I'm not doing a good job Confused

LibraPoppyGirl · 08/03/2011 22:40

Hi Smile

mhd thank you for the 'Like' on my status Smile xx

TACP I've found you on a thread in pregnancy, it's a nice place to be. I've posted on there tonight about Braxton Hicks. Smile x

Welcome to new posters, it's wonderful to see you here.

LOTM it's great to see you on this thread. I've seen you around the boards and I've always read your posts with agreeing interest Smile x

amberlight thank you for such love and encouragement, you post really gave me strength Smile x

blackeyedsusan thank you for contact MNHQ. I told them that I was glad you had and that you had mentioned it to me on the thread, but that I had so much going on that the thought had completely gone as quickly as it had been read Sad very tired brain at the moment Sad

Sorted out my benefit today and even managed to be successful in getting a Crisis Loan, which I was paid today and got from the Post Office Smile

One of the Perinatal MH Nurses called me today from the Hampshire team. I called them yesterday and told them what had happened. She was really lovely, there is a team meeting in the morning so she will talk to the team and the Doctor, and she'll call me tomorrow with a time one of them will come and see me.

I am off to the Council tomorrow, couldn't make the walk today, I was soooo tired after being out for 5 hours sorting out benefit.

Prayers please, for continued strength to be able to continue being able to stand up to DP and his bullying. Smile

Feeling okay but very tired mentally and physcially. I've had to turn my phone off because he won't stop texting me with demands to talk to me and now insinuating that I could even be having an affair and whether or not it is his child I am pregnant with?

Heavenly Father, please hold me close and give me the strength to keep going on the path you have given me.

I know you will never give us more to bear, than we can handle, but please be loving with me and guide me forward.

I pray to you, in your Son's name, Jesus Christ Our Lord, Amen Smile xx

Monty27 · 08/03/2011 22:43

Hi folks, could you think of my friend in your prayers.

She cannot have her chemo (breast cancer) at the minute because she's had pneumonia.

She's one of the most beautiful people you'd ever have the fortune to meet.

Thank you.

LibraPoppyGirl · 09/03/2011 00:24

Hi Monty27 Smile

Prayers for your dear friend and for relief of the poor health, she finds herself in.

May God strengthen her heart with love and guide her through the path she treads.

May God provide the doctors and the hcp's, with wisdom when treating her and patience and support for her.

Give her peace in her heart Lord to enable her to deal with her illnesses.

We pray to you Lord in your Son's name, Jesus Christ.

Amen Smile x

blackeyedsusan · 09/03/2011 06:49

librapoppy you are doing it again.
well done for sorting out benefits though.

I finally managed to speak to h about the holidays we have booked although nothing has been decided.

amber how are you today?

DO how is bob? and what about you?

MaryBS · 09/03/2011 07:19

Poppy, my first H was mentally abusive, and your H is using abusive methods to try to control you. He is threatening things to undermine your self-confidence and self-belief, so that you'll turn to him in despair. Turn to God instead. Don't weaken, this is so WRONG what he is doing to you.

Monty, offering up prayers for your friend :(, praying for healing for her.

Mangomay, you could try speaking to the vicar of the Anglican church, to see if they have any plans for a Sunday school. When we started going to our church, there wasn't one, but that all changed within a year, and now it has a thriving Sunday school, youth group etc. Once a Sunday school was set up, lots of families started going!

On the subject of Mary (not me, the virgin Wink), I don't think you need give up praying the rosary, although I understand why some denominations find it difficult, including the doctrine of Mary. I studied the role of Mary in the church when I was training for ministry. There were periods in history where Mary was treated as a deity or even "4th member of the Trinity". I think its important to stress that there is a difference between praying TO Mary and asking Mary to pray for us. Some people find it weird that we can ask "a dead person" to pray for us, and would argue that Christ is our only mediator (which of course he is!). Yet we ask each other to pray for us to God. PM me if you'd like to see my essay :)

Feeling slightly wobbly, as am "back at the helm" this lunchtime, taking a service. But it'll be fine, I am sure.

Anyway, day 1 of the 40 days of reading the bible. Genesis 1-25 today!

amberlight · 09/03/2011 07:27

Prayers all round for people.

Not feeling as wobbly and faint as yesterday morning - getting a bit of breakfast in me to see if I can reach "full-ish power" in an hour or so.

LibraPoppyGirl · 09/03/2011 07:53

Hi BES, I know a little TMI Blush

Thank you as always for the encouragement and unfailing support as always BES x

Having a cup right now, mentally preparing myself for the day Wink

Prayers a plenty for all x
Poppy xx

LibraPoppyGirl · 09/03/2011 07:57

MaryBS thank you for your shared experience. It beings me renewed strength when I hear the stories of others.

Praise God for each and every one of you xxxx

madhairday · 09/03/2011 11:22

Prayers for everyone this morning. Hi monty, praying for your friend right now...

So, it's Ash Wednesday. I was debating whether to give stuff up or take something up, and what would be the most productive spiritually. I have given up chocolate but I didn't think that was enough because I am on a diet anyway so it's not really a spiritual thing, so I am still thinking it through really. Fasting is going through my mind...I can't fast much due to health but maybe a lunch a week or something...just gives more time to pray. Hmmm...
