Can all those who don't believe in homeopathy, ghosts, talking to the dead, reading minds etc, please check in here?

There must be a few of us.

I feel as though I've logged onto allthingswoo.com rather than Mumsnet.com at the moment, and I'm not referring to this particuarly forum, but chat and AIBU?.

And if anyone says anything about how we should be openminded,I'm afraid I'll have to beat you to death with a a stick, one cut from an ash tree by the light of the first Summer moon of course.

I wonder if dinosaurs have toxins...?

lostinwales · 04/02/2011 19:07

Right, Rugby watching time, NOTHING woo about that!

Rainydaze · 04/02/2011 19:12

Just checking is as fully anti-woo and a devout atheist. :)

nickytwotimes · 04/02/2011 19:13

may i join in?

i am a total lentil weaver AND a catholic Shock so people have me down as a woo fan BUT IT DRIVES ME MENTAL! especially fucking homeopathy. pile of shite.

anyone else read snake oil by johm diamond? fabulous book. has a fair bit on the dangers of alternative 'medicine'. bloody arsehole alternative therapies contributed to my dad's death from brain haemorrage. guy told him to stop taking bp tablets ffs.

more bingo 'well, if it works for you, then it works' bullshit.

repeat after me (well richard dawkins) the plural of anecdote is not data.

nickytwotimes · 04/02/2011 19:14

don't be daft about dinosaurs - we all know they died out because their chakras were not aligned

HerMajestiesSecretCervix · 04/02/2011 19:28

But the indigo dinosaurs became birds!

jaggythistle · 04/02/2011 19:35

Is anyone else waiting for some woo stuff to come up in conversation somewhere, just to they can quote Bad Science a bit and fascinate everyone Grin Blush

jaggythistle · 04/02/2011 19:35

just so even.

TrillianAstra · 04/02/2011 19:40

Another xkcd for you

Undutchable · 04/02/2011 19:40

A friend once did 'healing' on me that had something to do with chakras... I was expecting a nice relaxing massage or similar, but NO she prances about in front of me THEN demanded I pay for the chemical-filled takeaway in exchange for her 'services' Hmm (she wanted to use a cynic as practice). She's a fab person but totally unhinged.

jaggythistle · 04/02/2011 20:12

stop, you'll make me want to go and catch up with about 8 months of xkcd that I haven't looked at!

exexpat · 04/02/2011 20:37

Thinking of Jesus' dinosaur ponies - can I just recommend that no one on this thread visits Noah's Ark Zoo Farm - yes, a zoo run by an evangelical Christian who believes that the story of Noah's Ark is true.

What is really scary is that it has national accreditation for its education programme, having been awarded the 'Learning Outside the Classroom' quality badge...

Pictish · 04/02/2011 20:39

Here! I'm a disbeliever in all things generally woo.

bathbuns · 04/02/2011 20:50

Hello
Also a woo hater.
I love pharyngula and bad science and especially Derren Brown.
Very pleased to have found the thread.

bathbuns · 04/02/2011 20:51

oops pharyngula

SeriousWispaHabit · 04/02/2011 21:02

Hello.
I do not believe in anything that Gillian Mckeith may believe or practise in, or that would be carried out by anyone wearing tie-dyed anything.

As a GP I coud sometimes cry at tales of colleagues who also do 'a bit of acupuncture' or 'prescribe homeopathy'. WTF??

And you people who come in saying you clearly have 'whole body candidal infection' as described in Woo magazine monthly, and which manifests itself as feeling a bit tired/achey with change of bowel habit...No, I am not going to prescribe 'herbal candida pills' and yes, I am going to ask lots of questions about your symptoms as there may actually be something wrong with you that I can help with.

And breathe.

openerofjars · 04/02/2011 21:09

Hello, room for one more in there? I have Wine which used to be dihydrogen monooxide until something clever happened with fruit sugar and yeast.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 04/02/2011 21:20
Hmm you know alcohol is a toxin, don't you? as is yeast. and sugar. you will need a big sniff of Rescue Remedy after that.

(Rescue Remedy - that's woo too, isn't it?)

openerofjars · 04/02/2011 21:28

Yeah, it's mostly just brandy and squashed-up pixies. I think.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 04/02/2011 22:03

poor squashed up pixies. The dark underbelly of woo.

lostinwales · 04/02/2011 22:05

Mostly brandy I think, I wonder if all the woo people know this and if anyone has been done for drunk driving after taking it? I bet if they did they blamed a yeast infection from eating white bread a week before. No wonder it does make you feel better though, nothing like 40% alcohol onto a very absorbent area to make you feel alright.

Hullygully · 04/02/2011 22:19

poor squashed up pixies. The dark underbelly of woo.

hee hee

twirlymum · 04/02/2011 22:19

Just checking in. Fervently anti woo and religion.

PacificDogwood · 04/02/2011 22:28

You lot have no idea how much hope this thread gives me - very much woo-phobic, please may I join?

Loving 'the plural of anecdote is not data' Grin

God I'd cry too. Loving "Woo Monthly Magazine" where can I buy it? Wink

Was out with a group of friends recently and one was telling me she is 'allergic to gluten' - I said "Oh right! You have coeliac disease?". Errr no, but since she's given up bread etc when a quack told her to (just by looking at her apparently!) she feels a whole lot better. Turns out she'd been on a diet and was eating healthily and doing some exercise. But yes, it's giving up the gluten that has done it...
