If he came back, how would you know he is The One, as opposed to a charlatan? What would be the sign?

From a Jewish point of view as I understand it (only from synagogue classes) the coming of the Messiah will usher in an era of global peace, which is how we will know he is the Messiah, and how we know Jesus wasn't him.

That's probably because the Qu'ran is 'younger' than the New Testament.

When He does, I sincerely hope He does so with the knowledge that people are now calling him by a Greek name (and a bad transalation at that), even though he was Hebrew ( "Jesus," is Latin form of the Greek "Iesous." which is a Greek form of a Hebrew name) .

Secondly, I wonder whether He will be White, Black, Asian etc considering that until about 20 years ago, Black people were told that the very blonde and blue eyed God/Jesus hated 'niggers'.

Good times ahead nonetheless!!
