I wanted to put some random thoughts and stuff regarding church, without it having to be a debate or a specific topic (and not prayers, either)

It's basically, a "what happened at church (or in my musical/spiritual life) this week" thread. Grin
Please join me!

I'll start:

We had Midnight Mass (on Christmas Eve, would you believe!), and it was half past 11, everyone was sitting and ready for the service to start - I waved the organist to give me my notes: he was just about to plat them when:
" TAXI FOR suchandsuch " came blaring out of our speaker system. Angry
There's a Wetherspoon's over the road and looks like the DJ's mike was on the same frequency as our radio mikes.
So, all the congregation started giggling and we had to wait 5 minutes until everyone was calm and collected enough to carry on.

you just wait till you hear me - i'm bloody good, i tell ya! Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 14/02/2011 10:46

well it didn't help that the 2nd song was "In Christ Alone".........well that wasn't a great way to start if I wanted to remain composed haha.

Thorns in the Straw is lovely isn't it. Want to do it at Easter as well - not sure who I'm going to get to sing it - maybe DS1 - his voice has settled again and is at that lovely stage (before they finally go wobbly and start growling at your >)

madhairday · 14/02/2011 10:50

Oh I'm all flipping emotional now, at the thought of your ds singing Thorns in the Straw (did try to acronym that but decided not to, try it and see Grin )

And really must get on with playing with power director doing the church newsletter and governor paperwork.

Grin
nickelbabe · 14/02/2011 10:51

Grin at the acronym!!

nearly spat out my water!!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 14/02/2011 10:52

PMSL @ the acronym Grin

nickelbabe · 14/02/2011 10:52

we thought of doing it as a choral piece with bits being swapped between men and women.
The SATB choir version is very complicated, but has solo parts as well as SA/T/B bits separating.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 14/02/2011 10:58

oh - and DS2 did another reading at church yesterday - much longer than the one he did the other week. He read 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 (from the English Contemporary Version). He was amazing considering he's only just 7 and it's a pretty long reading. Several people came up to me afterwards and told me how good and clear he was. One women even said "he's got the sort of voice you could sit and listen to all day"...

I begged to differ Wink

nickelbabe · 14/02/2011 11:00

awww, maybe you should get her to babysit! Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 14/02/2011 11:01

well she did look at me straight after and add "well I supposed you probably don't want to listen to him all day" HAHA

madhairday · 14/02/2011 11:05

OK so how do you copy and paste web images into PD? Can't do it

Do I have to save them into my pics and upload them? Bit faffy. huh.

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 14/02/2011 11:08

yes - you have to have them on your PC first.

I find it easier to find all the images I need first, but then in a folder on their own and then import the whole folder in.

thanksamillion · 14/02/2011 11:08

Hello! Just to say that I'm not ignoring you all but we've got no power (since Sat lunchtime). Currently using the laptop plugged into an extension lead from our neighbours who are on a different circuit. Not sure when it will come back on but is a bit of a pain as our water/cooking etc is all electric. Having to use the well and try and cook the contents of the freezer in a wood burning stove Hmm Hope to be back properly soon!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 14/02/2011 11:10

I know on PD9 you can import media direct from Flickr and Freesound.

madhairday · 14/02/2011 11:12

Oh no TAM, sounds like hard work, hope it's back on soon.

Thanks Baroque, had got used to pasting images into PP but yes makes sense to get them collated into one file first them import the file, not too difficult really!

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 14/02/2011 11:16

oh I don't even paste direct into PP. You never know when you'll want to use and image again, and I find it easier to set the background image from a file rather than faffing around in PP itself.

Right - need to go and pick DS3 up from nursery.

MaryBS · 14/02/2011 11:18

Tangent, but we've made the list of most active threads :o

Thats a pain TAM re: your electricity, but do I read it correctly that you have a functioning (and drinkable) well?

nickelbabe · 14/02/2011 11:25

thanks - i think it's funny that one of your important things to plug in is your laptop so you can tell MN about your powercut! Grin
heehheee! Grin

nickelbabe · 14/02/2011 11:26

yes, I save all images I use to a folder - marekd with what subjec thay are.
I hate having to faff around looking for stuff i've used before.

madhairday · 14/02/2011 11:26
Grin

Yes on PD7 you can't do the flickr/freesound imports, the icon is there but when clicked it just does this tempting 'do you want to upgrade'? thing Grin

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 14/02/2011 11:57

ahhh yess - it was getting that tempting "do you want to upgrade" thing on far too many things that led me to succumb Grin

nickelbabe · 14/02/2011 14:34

right,
it will be deleted as soon as i have made a proper video (or as soon as i decide i sound crap after all!)
Grin

nickelbabe · 14/02/2011 14:35

just wanted to add - I have got a horrid cold, and i also sound much better above an A.

thanksamillion · 14/02/2011 14:42

Mary Yes we have a functioning and drinkable well - all our water comes from it but usually it's pumped into the house (with an electric pump). Most people here (Moldova) use wells all the time for all their water so I can't really complain Smile. I was really hoping it would come back today but it's already 4.45 here and so it's looking unlikely Sad

nickelbabe · 14/02/2011 14:45

can you get to the water without the pump?

BaroqueAroundTheClock · 14/02/2011 14:47

wow nickel - you have a fabulous voice - great stuff Grin

lol @ him not realising it was the end of the song. You can so tell he's not comfortable playing the modern stuff Grin
