Minimu - can you give me some advice please? I've been thinking for a while that I may ask Santa to bring me some agility equipment to set up at home (exciting gal that I am!!!) - what would you recommend I start off with, please?

Thanks

Can't think of a better present!

I would certainly get weave poles. All dogs find it hard to do this so does require a lot of practice. You can get one that stick in the ground these are the best to start with.

My son bless him made me my jumps. You don't need many to start. You can do loads of exercises with just 2.

Most dogs love the tunnel so that is fun to have.

www.agilitynet.com is a great site and they have an agility warehouse where you can buy equipment.

I wouldn't bother about A frames and dog walks a plank of wood is great for teaching the contacts before you introduce the dog to the equipment.

www.agilitybits.co.uk/ is a great site for training tips and also shows you how to make your own equipment.

Do be careful agility is highly addictive!

BellasSparklyBaubles · 03/12/2009 21:16

Thank you for that, Minimu I have been browsing the agility warehouse and will have a look at your other link too. Will put poles & a tunnel on my list - we still have jump cups and poles somewhere so should be able to set up a nice little course!
Thank you

Makes a refreshing change from new slippers, Terry's chocolate orange and a pair of brushed cotton festive PJs.

I'm getting a new pair of wellies for walking my pup. Leather and neoprene lined. Hardcore

amazonianwoman · 03/12/2009 22:46

Minimu - can you use any kind of poles or do they have to be flexible a la ski slalom? We have huge garden, quite like the idea of making part of it into a training course

minimu · 04/12/2009 07:59

No any type of poles. I tend to use the one that plumbers use. The thin waste pipe tubing. You can get them from DIY stores. Just cut to size. For my birthday my DS and OH made me an A frame, last Christmas I got the tunnel.

You be careful amazinanwoman you are at the top of the slippery slope!

BellasSparklyBaubles · 04/12/2009 08:07

Ah, but she won't slip in her hardcore wellies will she, Minimu?

Good to know I am not alone in my freaky unusual choice of presents, girls

Minimu - what do you get for major events eg 30th/40th/10yr wedding anniversary??!!

amazonianwoman · 04/12/2009 14:19

My wellies are hardcore but also things of beauty At least I hope they will be when they arrive...

Hardcore price reduction too - from £295 to £120

BellasSparklyBaubles · 04/12/2009 14:41

Link, please...

These

Sensible side of me would've gone for sensible green neoprene £80 wellies; the vain side won cos I just HAD to have some brown ones

Now everyone will tell me that Hunter's don't last like they used to...

Ah well, still a (relative) bargain

BellasSparklyBaubles · 06/12/2009 09:25

They are rather nice, AW.

OP posts:
minimu · 06/12/2009 11:41

AW I've got these!!! Don't want to put a downer on it they can leak a bit around the zip but I think my dogs deserve a stylish dog walker so worth the sacrifice!

amazonianwoman · 06/12/2009 21:24

Noooo! I thought zip was waterproof?! Might have to exchange them for the Hunter Royals (also at bargain price but only have size too big)

At least I have the wellies of a Professional Dog Trainer

Romanarama · 07/12/2009 07:26

Where do you get them so cheap, amazonianwoman?

amazonianwoman · 07/12/2009 10:39

This ebay seller

Only sizes 4, 6 & 13 left though. Crossing fingers that the 7s I ordered will fit! Same seller also sells Hunter Royals for about £99.

Sounds like they are seconds, ie minor blemishes, but good feedback. And my wellies are always covered in mud so won't be able to tell anyway

amazonianwoman · 08/12/2009 10:38

Oooo, they've arrived! And they're gorgeous

Sitting in the kitchen wearing them right now - can't wait for our next walk

BellasSparklyBaubles · 08/12/2009 10:39

lol

OP posts:
minimu · 08/12/2009 15:13

Have you tested them yet AW?

BellasSparklyBaubles · 08/12/2009 16:04

...or are you still sat in your kitchen gazing at them?

BellasSparklyBaubles · 08/12/2009 18:48

Oh - minimu - I forgot to ask. Is there a particular tunnel you'd recommend on the agility warehouse site? I was thinking of using plastic electric fence poles (which I already have) for weaving - would they be okay do you think?

Thank you

OP posts:
minimu · 08/12/2009 18:57

Just checking with OH he got my tunnel as a present and said it was a bargain back in a sec .......

Plastic fence poles are great for weaving sorry if I am telling you what you already know. The dog has to enter the weaves with the weave on his left shoulder.

minimu · 08/12/2009 19:07

OH just looking through his invoices to find out may take a while. Do you fancy a drink while he is looking?

BellasSparklyBaubles · 08/12/2009 19:13

Thank you minimu - but please don't make dh go to any trouble

OP posts:
minimu · 08/12/2009 19:32

I think it will do OH good to go to some trouble!

BellasSparklyBaubles · 08/12/2009 20:02

lol - a meal is not complete without a dog hair! At least not in my house!
