Rehoming my puppy :(

I have posted about my puppy on here before and got flamed for having her in my bedroom, at the time i was complaining about her weeing on my bed, since that night she has wee'd on the bed twice, last night on dh's pillow, i am giving up now as she is also showing teeth at other dog and yapping like a banshee. I know im doing the right thing, i share this house with dh, ds and mum and brother, puppy is making everybody miserable.
I have tried everything that i possibly can. My mum is around the neighbours house at the moment to see if she wants her, as she has asked before.
Dont really know why im writing this on here but i feel its better than sitting staring at her or crying

This looks the nearest to you

Pomeranian Club Rescue

maybe she can help with just advice if you decide you want to keep her.

yay! valhalla is the font of doggy wisdom - hope you get in touch with her poppy.

the weeing thing for my dog was different in that she hadnt been a spoiled puppy princess but she had been badly abused and beaten.

i crated her every night, made it snug and secure and safe, i let her out last thing at night and first thing in the morning, but i crated her - she felt safe and secure and didnt want to soil her own bedding - the crate was only as big as her bed.

she would wee whenever she thought she was threatened, so we were careful not to make sudden jumpy movements or stroke her from above until she became more trusting.

for my first dog i had a doggy trainer - i got her number through our vet.
first thing she would say to you though is dont sleep with her. you wont cure the urinating on the bed until she learns her place in the pack. the yapping i really dont have an answer for.

if you want rid then get in touch with valhalla.
if you want to keep her then your going to have to get a dog trainer onside and change what your doing im afraid.

Aw bless ya, Vicar! I'm no expert, I'm just lucky to have a lot of contacts country-wide (and as it happens am not too far from Poppy, going by the Pom rescue recommendation), and have been daft enough to get involved in something that my heart and soul is in and into which I have put heart and soul too, hence I've a little experience and inside knowledge.

It does make me an outspoken, determined, get-on-yer-nerves, mad bloody dog woman though!

Vallhala · 29/11/2009 23:09

PS Poppy if you are in the Beds area, I may be able to recommend a qualified behaviouralist - she's the lady who helps with "my" local rescue's dogs and is ace. Don't know if she is local enough to you and she has had a baby recently so may not be taking on new clients but if so she may well be able to recommend an equally well respected and qualified person.

Again, if it helps, please drop me an email and I'll put you in touch.

Poppy, there are a few things you could try while you are waiting to see a behaviorist.

RE: The weeing. Take her out every hour for 5 mins and straight after eating. If she does anything make a huge deal out of it. Lots of fussing/good girl/treats.

RE: The yapping on a night. Sometimes it can days for a dog to settle into a new sleeping place. Sometimes weeks. The dog I have now just accepted that he slept in the kitchen and got on with it happily. My JRT puppy howled for weeks.

There are things you can do to help it though. You could consider a crate in your bedroom. That way she will still feel close to you. She is also unlikely to soil during the night as she won't like to soil her bedding.

If you want her in the kitchen leave a radio playing quietly, so she doesn't feel alone. Lots of toys, Kong toys are good for keeping them amused. Leave an old top or something of yours in her bed, so that she still smells you.

I am not a trainer or beheaviorist, but these tips have helped me in the past.

Korma, i know you meant well.
i have had alot of nice and horrible comments on this thread, i have 2 people interested in her, a smaller crate on my watching list on ebay and a lovely smaller dog bed. I have no idea what to do anymore, she is behaving much better due to me listening to people on here, i love her but ive had so much going on in the last week i have lost the plot completely, I think i want to keep her. I have took her off the free ads the other day but people still keep ringing me, one wanted me to measure her against a bloody baked bean can! Im keeping her, soz about the rant just needed to say it and make my mind up! Thanks everyone

Wonderful news, all the very best Poppy. Korma, I'm really, really sorry - I just picked my potential adoptive lady out of my imagination and NO WAY did I mean to offend you or insinuate that you weren't genuine.

elastamum · 02/12/2009 22:08

Hi Poppy,

If it makes you fel better I have just taken a rehomed labradoodle who was returned t the breeder. She was 10 months, really thin, desperate and not housetrained. the breeder had her speyed and then gave her to me as i had 2 other dogs from him and he thought she needed compnay. At night she lives in a crate on the upstairs landing, my other dogs sleep loose up there. when I am out I shut all the dogs in our garden room which has a wooden floor which is easily cleaned if we have mishaps Crating her at night has made massive strides forward with her housetraining. When I first got her I set the oven timer every hour to take her out for a wee. Gave her a treat every time she did one outside, 4 weeks on I have a happy and nearly housetrained dog who is happily lying by my feet. also go to puppy classes to get some guidance and moral support Godd luck

VicarInaTinselTuTu · 02/12/2009 22:46

good luck with her poppy!
