Rehoming my puppy :(

PoppyIsApain · 27/11/2009 17:17

I have posted about my puppy on here before and got flamed for having her in my bedroom, at the time i was complaining about her weeing on my bed, since that night she has wee'd on the bed twice, last night on dh's pillow, i am giving up now as she is also showing teeth at other dog and yapping like a banshee. I know im doing the right thing, i share this house with dh, ds and mum and brother, puppy is making everybody miserable.
I have tried everything that i possibly can. My mum is around the neighbours house at the moment to see if she wants her, as she has asked before.
Dont really know why im writing this on here but i feel its better than sitting staring at her or crying

Mum was the yorkie
Dad was the pom
She has the pom tail.
That is fine if you want to meet her, let me know what hubby says

Poppy, it is a small dog and almost a puppy, she shouldn't be difficult to place. Have you thought of local classified adds?

PoppyIsApain · 28/11/2009 12:53

I have put her on the friday ads online but it is playing up and the free ads in local paper but that wont show up till 7th dec. Im waiting to hear from Korma to give her first refusal but then i will ring around places from there, thanks biobytes

please dont put her on freeads, have you looked to see if there is a pom rescue ? if she is half pom they might be able to rehome her ,especially as she is so young. they will homecheck people first too and take her back if it doesnt work out .

PoppyIsApain · 28/11/2009 16:25

That is ok korma, thank you for your interest in her anyway.
bumpsoon, i will start looking properly on monday and will try the rescue centres first.
Thank you to everybody for their kind words

There are some unscrupilous (sp) people out there that want free small dogs for dog fighting and bating please be careful where she goes as they lie too!

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 28/11/2009 22:18

you get a dog, you don't have her vaccinated, it doesn't work out and you'll advertise her in free ads to rehome her....

PoppyIsApain · 29/11/2009 11:34

Shocking isn't it controlfreak, either that or i could keep her in a home that i admit i can't cope and struggle on for the next 15 years, when she could be getting much more attention and love elsewhere. You seem to have a problem with freeads, would you prefer i ask for money for her, i would expect to be flamed then, go and find a thread where you are not the only bitter person, try AIBU, it might suity you better!

OP posts:
ShinyAndNew · 29/11/2009 17:56

There are plenty of rescues that you could take her to. Vallhala and LuckySalem know which ones don't have a pts policy. I'm sure they will notice this thread soon enough.

Please think very, very carefully about advertising her in the free ads. You may be lucky and get some one lovely who will care for her properly, but what if you are not? .

I can see you have had problems with her, but I am sure that you wouldn't want her to come to any harm, or be subjected to mistreatment.

There are clearly some training issues that need adressing. You should at the very least be looking for an experienced owner that can train and socialise her properly and has the time to do so.

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 29/11/2009 18:32

i am not "bitter", why should i be?... but you are v rude poppy, or maybe just defensive.

PoppyIsApain · 29/11/2009 22:02

shinyandnew i would certainly not let her go to bad owners, i love her very much, i just can't cope with her at the moment.
controlfreak you cant be very shocked that maybe iam defensive, the whole reason as to my post was that iam hurting but have come to the end of my tether, it is not an easy decision, and not one that i have taken to lightly at all. In my previous thread about pup wee'ing on my bed i got flamed for not getting 'rid' of her already. I feel pressurised into this choice by dh, my mum and brother who all hate her. I love her to bits but this is one of them moments where MY love is not enough. I didnt mean to come across as rude but i feel very pissed off at the moment and you seemed to be having a go about something for the sake of it.

OP posts:
abra1d · 29/11/2009 22:04

Please have her vaccinated at least.

ThatVikRinA22 · 29/11/2009 22:18

you need to put a bit of effort in and find a rescue centre - NOT the free ads. at least do that for the dog if you do nothing else. you have absolutely no way of knowing who is a "bad owner" - a rescue will vet them and their house.
the weeing on the bed is a problem of your own making im afraid - it could be territorial, and you have given her a very elevated position in the household by letting her sleep in top spot. when i took my rescue on she had been allowed to wee in the house - it only took a week to fix.

please search for a rescue, dont just hand her to the first person who shows interest - she will be hard work and i think you need to be honest about that - you said she is showing teeth at other dogs and hasnt been vaccinated. someone will get a nasty shock (as you have) if your not careful. if i keep saying it will you find a rescue centre? (not dogs home - but a rescue)??

Feelingforty · 29/11/2009 22:21

shame the rehoming didn't work out.

I second giving her to an animal rescue & I think you should give them a donation because they will then neuter & vaccinate her.
And most importantly find her an appropriate home.

ThatVikRinA22 · 29/11/2009 22:22

a quick google is all it takes

found this one within a minute.

this one looks promising too

PoppyIsApain · 29/11/2009 22:25

I think i should explain why she has not been vaccinated, she had suspected mange and the vet did not allow me to vaccinate yet, she has been treated. I dont want to rehome her, i dont want money, i dont want to send her to a dogs home, if she goes it will be to a brilliant home. I will check, i think im doing the wrong thing anyway, i could cry just sitting here, vicar please can you give me advise on how you cracked the weeing, i got no constructive advise on how to tackle this on here, i want to proove to my mum and dh that she is copable with.

OP posts:
controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 29/11/2009 22:28

why don't you try consulting an animal behaviourist if you actually want to address the difficulties... your vet should be able to give you some names (am assuming you haven't done this already.)

PoppyIsApain · 29/11/2009 22:36

Would that stop her yapping downstairs at night? I have no problem with paying IYKWIM,
I wouldnt of got her if that was the case. She is so beautiful, my other dog was much worse than her at her age but he was only pissing me off not everyone else in the house. If you saw her anyone would love her, i know i will regret giving her away forever.

OP posts:
Vallhala · 29/11/2009 22:38

Poppy, you may feel got at, but I'm sorry to say that the posters above are right, the free ads is not the answer.

Put her on the free ads and you have no idea what home she'll be going to. A small, Pom X bitch, unneutered, is a puppy farmers dream. How will you know that the nice lady who visits you and coos over her, telling you with a tear or ten that she has just lost her darling Pom after 15 happy years won't lock her in an outside kennel and breed her every 6 months til she is too old and ill and then dump her in the street, have her PTS or put her in a pound (where she may well be PTS)? If she's advertised as free to a good home there's even more chance of this - people tend to think more and take more care of anything, living or inanimate, that they pay for.

This isn't a scare story, these things DO happen - I see it in my work in rescue. A good rescue however will vaccinate and spay her and check the new owner in their home, offer lifetime support and match the dog to the owner and will NEVER PTS a dog unless she is suffering beyond help.

I have one such rescue in mind, which takes smaller dogs in particular. If you'd like to email me at [email protected] (it comes up as a male name, I use it in order to post on forums as I don't want spam going to my normal email addy, but I AM a mum, honest!), I'll give you all the info you'll need to check me out so you know I am who and what I say I am, give you my phone number and will, with your permission, put you in touch with or approach that rescue on your behalf and failing that find others for you.

Please believe me that advertising your pup on free ads is a very dangerous idea. It MAY work out ok, but it may not and the results could be heartbreaking.

I know I'm stroppy and outspoken but I don't bite (ask the lady on here for whom I found a home for her Lab X Rottie pup recently!). I work for the dog, not any organisation or individual and my aim is purely to see them safe and loved.

Hope this helps.

Vallhala · 29/11/2009 22:46

Sorry Poppy, I x posted with you. Now I see you are concerned about rescue. If you can consult a behaviouralist, that would be ideal, but if not please consider rescue first and don't rehome privately unless to someone you know.

BTW, re behaviouralists, they aren't like vets or GPs, anyone can become one, so make sure you get a recommendation or choose one which is a member of one of the big behaviouralist societies.

Also, re the Algernon trust rescue, I know them, having worked with Jane there. She doesn't take many dogs as she works via foster homes and doesn't have kennels - worth a try, am happy to give her a shout for you, but I won't promise she can help.

Some other rescues also work via foster homes and not kennels - I have another in mind now, who are excellent and I know personally. If you do decide you can't keep your pup and would be willing to consider a no-kill, foster home based rescue I think I know the very one which may be able to help you. Agai, if this is of use, do please get i touch.
