Dachshund for me too. Small but not yappy, proper hound bark.

GrimmaTheNome · 05/09/2009 19:47

Mines a smooth black and tan standard so about twice as long as Eccentrica's.

He's sat on, or rather all the way across, my knees now, resting his long chin on my forearm.

ilovepeppapig · 05/09/2009 20:00

cocker spaniel

moosemama · 05/09/2009 20:22

I am always spoiled for choice when it comes to my favourite breed. My top three, in no particular order are:

Irish Wolfhound

Bernese Mountain Dog

Leonberger

I have three dogs and none of them are any of the above breeds!

I also adore lurchers, particularly rough coated beardy weirdy ones like my lad.

Dh and I have promised ourselves a leonberger when we retire. (Only about another 30 years to wait then!)

Stayingsunnygirl · 05/09/2009 20:38

Brown labradors - coincidentally we have a 15 week old brown lab girl who is loveable and infuriating, but luckily more loveable than infuriating!

Wilts · 05/09/2009 20:43

We are hoping to get a dog next year and will have either a Springer Spaniel or Border Collie.

My dad has two Leonbergers, they are stupidly big and painful to be out with because of all the people that stop to admire them

EccentricaGallumbits · 05/09/2009 20:55

ooh Grimma. wanna talk sausages? I'm obsessed. I love them more than words can say.

W had them when I was litle but only last year cracked and got one for DD1 cos she's been obsessed for years.

Now I too am hooked. I want abrown andcream one, and a cream long haired one, and a red short haired one, and a standard on. wole pack in fact.

Ours has a birthday next week. I m thinking of having a party. he'll be 1.

MrsJohnDeere · 05/09/2009 21:00

springer
sprocker

moosemama · 05/09/2009 21:02

Ah Wilts, I think its the stupidly big aspect that I'm drawn to (given my shortlist). There used to be a Leonberger at our dog club, one hug and we were both smitten. Couldn't possibly fit one in our house with 3dcs and 3 other dogs though.

We are used to people stopping us to admire our dogs though. We have an ancient Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier who can really turn on the charm to draw a crowd and our lurcher boy has been known to practically stop traffic - he's such a looker and a real sweetie to boot.

aristocat · 05/09/2009 21:08

gotta be a husky for me

Wilts · 05/09/2009 21:09

Moosemama- I have never known anything like it when we are out with them, I think dad likes stopping and talking to the admirers though as he is getting on and lives on his own.

My boys think they are hilarious as they are forever just plonking themselves on your feet, leaving you completely unable to move under their huge weight

purpleduck · 05/09/2009 21:14

eccentric/grimma
I saw a long haired (verly light hair) Blue eyed puppy dachshund a few weeks ago. It was at Longleat, and the owner couldn't move for being mobbed

EccentricaGallumbits · 05/09/2009 21:27

oooh. niiiice.

My favourite breed is the German Shepherd. Chezzie is my second and both he and my late GSD have/had the most wonderful temperements and characters.

I must also put in a plug for the much undermined Staffie though. I am a volunteer in dog rescue and see so many in pounds, waiting to be put to sleep, yet they are the most affectionate and loyal little souls.

I would urge anyone considering having a dog to visit the Staffies at their local rescues.

thesunshinesbrightly · 05/09/2009 22:38

aww yes they are lovily too

i've just realised i must not have a fav i love them all(apart from one certain breed)

preciouslillywhite · 05/09/2009 22:42

Staffs. cute little snuffly piglets- but with benefit of FUR

GrimmaTheNome · 05/09/2009 23:26

The other great thing about dachshunds is that you can't go for a walk without people smiling and talking to you, small kids confidently making their first breed identification 'sausage dog' - they just spread happiness around.

4andnotout · 05/09/2009 23:33

Staffies This is my Ruby who according to dd2 is the happiest dog alive as she is always smiling!

My next favorites are :
Griffon Bruxellerous (sp) My first dog of my own and he was a darling!
Boston Terriers
French Bulldogs
Great Danes

spugs · 07/09/2009 22:17

papillons - i have a 3 month old one and shes a total fruit cake lovely

Would also love to own a boston terrier and out of the big dogs a ridge back or visla.

PaulaMummyKnowsBest · 08/09/2009 18:44

newfies are beautiful aren't they? Mine was such a gentle giant and if it wasn't for the mess they make, I'd have another in the blink of an eye.

Golden retrievers too are lovely

snigger · 08/09/2009 18:48

Rhodesian Ridgeback. Barking mad, big, aloof, and too bright for their own (or your) good.

claricebeansmum · 08/09/2009 18:52

Labradoodle like mine. First generation so looks a mess. Chocolate brown. Complete softy.

countrybump · 08/09/2009 19:07

Flat coat retriever
