The dog behind the television

He is so proud and he seems to think we just do not understand!

We are watching Beethoven's Big Break and pup keeps going and peering behind the TV and barking, then oming to me, sitting down and looking at the tv, to me, to the tv then going back and barking some more

[Sigh] I cannot work out if I am proud of his clever brain letting me know or ashamed that he still has not worked out there is no dog in/on/behind the TV

My smart boy loves to chase stones - but only ones you kick with your feet so he walks along with his nose in front of your toes waiting for you to kick them - sweet, cute but bloomin difficult to walk forwards with a (large) pup dancing round in front of you [grr]

I forgot to mention these are mean looking odd coloured stones she barks at. The kindly looking noes she just ignores.

How you doing missus?

bella21 · 30/07/2009 20:08

noes = ones

KingCanuteIAm · 30/07/2009 21:06

Lol - see tis a mark of extreme intelligence - being able to tell the mean stones from the non-mean ones

I am fine, finally got my scan tomorrow was delayed as Dd been in hospital so that was scary. The outcome is not great but better than what we were thinking IYSWIM. All in all quite stressful!

How are you, dd and pet feeling now?

Hope you're well blonde one - how is that sofa doing? Do you need a new one yet?

OP posts:
bella21 · 30/07/2009 21:29

Ooh crikes, we're all in the thick of it, aren't we?

Best of luck for tomorrow, and hope dd's okay

We are on tamiflu here, or at least dd is, but she's not too bad at all. Bella is up and down, but hoping for a good night's sleep tonight. Pet is unchanged but still slightly better than originally, so fingers still crossed.

Other than that...[knackered emoticon]

Hugs to you and that Blonde one anyway, since I'm going to do toilet breaks and hopefully slope off under my duvet now.

Bella Bon Jovi xxx

...little pressie for you, honey

here

KingCanuteIAm · 30/07/2009 22:13

OMG

My face is like this...

Yukky swine flu, not nice [yuch]

Hope you get a good nights sleep

Dd is ok for now, tis the future that may get tough for her - or may not, it is one of those things that may never happen again or may get gradually worse, just wait and see.

waves back

sofa is fine thank you

though bed getting kinda squeaky from all the hunping and grinding that gos on htere

ps- woofa also got very worried over the build a bear dog dc got for her 6th birthday - as when she squeezes paw it woofs

and lots of times

i keep saying it - woofa may be big, have big paws and head - but is as thick as shit!!

KingCanuteIAm · 30/07/2009 23:24

Like my puppy - good job he is beautiful because he sure ain't smart

(although he is very bright obviously, in fact I think he may be G&T

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 30/07/2009 23:35

obv my --monster- woofa is gorgeous as well

KingCanuteIAm · 30/07/2009 23:40

Oh and he looks really silly when his head is soaking wet

And the smell of fox poo is really hard to wash out

Twas very funny scene though with dd and I hanging on for dear life trying to wash the soap out and ddoggy trying to do a runner - he didn't speak to me for ages - just got in his crate with his back to me and sulked
I am convinced it was more to do with the loss of his hard won stink than the indignity - although dd snapping pics of him being sluiced did not help his ego [snort]

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 30/07/2009 23:48

pmsl

our woofa doesnt like getting wet either

HATES the rain, and if needs a pee, literally stands out by back door, pees and dashed in

also stays FAR away from the kids in the paddling pool as well

KingCanuteIAm · 31/07/2009 07:42

Haha! Mine does the dash out for a pee thing
He always looks so offended when it rains!

OP posts:
bella21 · 31/07/2009 08:41

My new pup does not do rain. Uh oh. No thank you. You have to get behind her and push her 7kg out there, only to have her double back at lightning speed. Only solution is to quickly don waterproof jacket over PJ's and get soaked while she goes and hides under a car.

Still, she slept through a massive thunderstorm yesterday My older bitch is terrified and I didn't want her anxiety to rub off on the newbie but no, the pup just stretched and yawned in her bed

KingCanuteIAm · 31/07/2009 09:25

Bless her, what a trooper!

Bella, we are still having problems with mouthing, I think it may be time to kick things up a notch, what do you recommend as a good next step?

OP posts:
bella21 · 31/07/2009 09:28

Just about to go do toilet breaks (this is my life )

Remind me please what you have been doing up till now (rubs fuzzy sleep deprived mildly feverish brain).

Did I tell you I'm thinking of training as a professional behaviourist

KC! KC!

She's out cold!

Smelling salts anyone?

KingCanuteIAm · 31/07/2009 09:40

Er... where am I?...

Good plan Bella, you would be fab at it! I am quite willing to be a trial person for you - I can write a great testamonial

Anyway, so far telling him no, replacing with something he can chew on and the kids shreik in a wide variety of ways which makes him stop and look at them funny then I remove him. It is always when he is wound up and excited, I make him sit down and calm down but it takes a few times to get through to him - which is fine as he is just a puppy and it takes time for him to learn self control - it is just the mouthy bit I want him to get on top of!

OP posts:
bella21 · 31/07/2009 09:55

Will he do a long down?

KingCanuteIAm · 31/07/2009 09:58

Yes but it is hard for him when he is wound up, he tends to crawl and bounce a bit

OP posts:
bella21 · 31/07/2009 10:21

No, I meant in general

Do you do lots of long downs with him?

Does he have an outlet for his mouthy play, e.g. tug of war games, letting him win?

KingCanuteIAm · 31/07/2009 10:33

Oh yes, he does all his moves, sit wait, down stay etc.

He does do mouthy play too, he does get to win as well as lose!

It is when he is excited and he wants your attention he shows you by mouthing and nibbling you IYSWIM. It is his peculiar brand of attention seeking

OP posts:
bella21 · 31/07/2009 10:36

Mmmm...excited or wanting attention? Which do you mean? Are you already playing with him when he gets over excited and mouths, or are you e.g. sitting having a cup of coffee and he comes up and puts your hand in his mouth?

KingCanuteIAm · 31/07/2009 10:47

Ok, when he is excited himslef, not when I get him excited IYSWIM. He does not do it if we are playing a game for example.

So yes, if I am having a cuppa and he goes out to the garden and gets himself all excited then he will come in demanding attention and start mouthing.

OP posts:
bella21 · 31/07/2009 10:50

Do you yelp and walk away?

Whatever you do, reward or deterrent, has to be done within half a second of the action in order for them to learn most effectively.

bella21 · 31/07/2009 10:52

As an aside, sort of, mine have been taught to come in and sit for a tiny food treat when I call them from outside.

All 3 now come skidding in and try to outdo each other for the best sit
