I'd give her a bag of dog food wrapped up as a birthday pressie. She should get thin hint - and you'll save on having to buy a real pressent.

Trinityrhino · 23/03/2009 21:26

will the other DCs be alright with the dog 'belonging' to DD1?

TrillianAstra · 23/03/2009 21:31

Do you know where you are getting the dog from, or what kind of dog it is? You could get her a book about that breed of dogs, or if you don;t know yet then a picture book about 'how to look after your dog' (I had one for cats).

Or a collar and lead in her favourite colour so she can help walk the dog.

Trinityrhino · 23/03/2009 21:37

ooh good ideas

lotsof - it wont be HER dog as such, it will be the family dog but mine really.

she is just desperate to have a family dog

no idea what dog we are getting yet, hoping to rehime from canine rescue

I love the idea of a how to look after your dog book
thanks

I am excited about your DD getting a dog.

One of the boys in DS's class just got a black lab puppy today and he is gooooorgeous.

Why don't you take her to a pet shop as a birthday surprise and let her pick out a bed or a bowl or something.

A collar is no use, unless you know what kind of dog you are getting.

I took the DC to see a woman whose dog had puppies "just to have a look" and they were so excited. The look on their faces when we told them that we were going to buy one was just fab.

Trinityrhino · 23/03/2009 22:16

YAY someone else is excited

the rescue centre we are looking to rehoime from welcomes people to come and walk the dogs they have

I was thinking of taking her there to do that on her birthday too

I got a rabbit for my birthday at a similar age. Was taken on a mystery journey to find my birthday present. Journey ended up at my friend's house - her rabbit had a litter of babies and I got to choose the one I wanted. Very exciting!!

I think as long as it is a well-thought out decision to have a dog - and it is a family pet that everyone will care for - it's fine to make it her present.

TrillianAstra · 23/03/2009 22:29

Drinking on a weeknight just for fun, sounds great

Sorry didn't reply before, my hands were full of worms. I've eaten all my worms now

I think I was a similar age when we went to get my kitten, it was great!

Trinityrhino · 23/03/2009 22:30

oh yes smith
been thought about for almost two years lol

dh alwasy had dogs when growing up and as an adult

I've never had a dog but always wanted one
mil has a dog which i have cared for (alot when her husband died)
