Shall I make a card or something to tell dd1 that we are going to get a dog?

we have been thinkin about it for a lon time now

she has wanted a dog for about 2 years constantly

we have always told her we would not be ettin one but as the younest have got older we have revised our thinkin

we would not buy a dog as a present but i would like to tell her as a birthday surprise iyswim

what would you do?

I'd give her a bag of dog food wrapped up as a birthday pressie. She should get thin hint - and you'll save on having to buy a real pressent.

lol I think she would think we HAD a dog already if i did that

she has a birthday present she asked for and a couple of little things but i know that this will be soo special to her that i thought making it a sort of present too would be nice

she is goin to be 9 btw

Do you know where you are getting the dog from, or what kind of dog it is? You could get her a book about that breed of dogs, or if you don;t know yet then a picture book about 'how to look after your dog' (I had one for cats).

Or a collar and lead in her favourite colour so she can help walk the dog.

lotsof - it wont be HER dog as such, it will be the family dog but mine really.

she is just desperate to have a family dog

no idea what dog we are getting yet, hoping to rehime from canine rescue

shall i give my 25 month old gecko a dummy so she will stop waking every 2 ish hours all night. every night

no i wont because it wont work and I wouldn't be able to take it off her and I dont like dummies on older toddlers....

I am excited about your DD getting a dog.

One of the boys in DS's class just got a black lab puppy today and he is gooooorgeous.

Why don't you take her to a pet shop as a birthday surprise and let her pick out a bed or a bowl or something.

A collar is no use, unless you know what kind of dog you are getting.

I took the DC to see a woman whose dog had puppies "just to have a look" and they were so excited. The look on their faces when we told them that we were going to buy one was just fab.

the rescue centre we are looking to rehoime from welcomes people to come and walk the dogs they have

I was thinking of taking her there to do that on her birthday too

I got a rabbit for my birthday at a similar age. Was taken on a mystery journey to find my birthday present. Journey ended up at my friend's house - her rabbit had a litter of babies and I got to choose the one I wanted. Very exciting!!

I think as long as it is a well-thought out decision to have a dog - and it is a family pet that everyone will care for - it's fine to make it her present.

been thought about for almost two years lol

dh alwasy had dogs when growing up and as an adult

I've never had a dog but always wanted one
mil has a dog which i have cared for (alot when her husband died)
