New Pup Name Suggestions ...

It's looking likely that we will take on a rescue Springer Pup and although he has a name, we'll be changing it.

He has an all Liver (Brown) face and a white body and I've been trying to think if a suitable name. It needs to be a short, sharp name for calling him back when he bounds off into the distance (we've had several Springers so know what they are like )

The names I've shortlisted so far are

  1. Archie
  2. Alfie

But, I'd like to play on his all liver face if I can. DH suggested Deefa i.e. D for dog

Thanks ...

Bruno?
Bister? (A sooty brown or yellow-brown colour)

Or the ultimate liver-related name -

Boak?

I had a springer called Zebedee coz he was so bouncy..everyone said what aa appropriate it was. Sadly he died in august (only 4yrs old) and we now have a puppy called Ozzy.
Springer are the BEST

*how appropriate it was

Hi Luvly(can't remember the rest, it's a long name )
Our new puppy to be is from an RSPCA litter and is on his 2nd foster home already, he's 11 weeks old. Apparantly he's a howler & a crier, bless him, and hates being left alone.
Any tips ?

DH and I have had 3 between us and not experienced a particular howler before. OMG, what are we doing, Springers are mental at the best of times but one suffering separation anxiety might just be a nightmare ...

Forgot to mention I'm here all day but he howls and cries even if you go for a wee or walk out the room !

My only tip is DON'T comfort him when he cries. Seems harsh, but it will simply instill in him that there is a problem.

Instead, wait till he's quiet, and then make a huge fuss.

Make sure he gets into a routine early on (not too much of a prob, if he's 11 weeks already)

Not sure what else you can do. My lab still suffers separation anxiety but only for the minute I'm acutally going - otheriwse he's OK... Also check if your dog will eat / drink while you are gone... Lots of dogs won't.

My dog won't eat or drink while I'm gone, but I can give him a little goats milk (Soya milk would be ok too, AFAIK) to give him liquid if I need to leave him. He will drink that while I'm there, then I know he's not going to be overly thirstly...

Thanks SS. We are also going to get him a puppy/ dog cage as the RSPCA said that sometimes they feel more secure in an enclosed space. I'll put a hot water bottle and a soft toy in there with him too.

We are going to see him on Sat so we'll know just how upset he gets. Poor little sausage, not had the best start in life but he'll be loved, walked and live like a king with us. Oh, & be trained and disciplined too. Crucial with Springers.

I'd recommend a cage to anyone. They sound horrid, but they are great.

my dog loved him and used it as a refuge from the kids.

I thought it sounded barbaric, but it was great.
