awww! thats lovely, you're lucky. I wouldn't be brave enough to get another dog from a trust. i used to be soo scared to come home to her to see what she had done. She once made it onto my kitchen worktop and was jumping up at the windows, there was egg all over my window because she had opened the fridge and smashed the content across the floor.
I just wish she was good! ive heard lots of lovely storys about rescued dogs. shame

When i called the dogstrust back up with my problems it took them two months before they coiuld take her from me, and in that time she had bit my oh, and i only phoned them after she bit my niece. I spent over £1000 trying to make her better and replace the things she wrecked in the house. Crazzzzzzy dog!

2 of my chihuahuas were/are rescues!

cheesesarnie, we got a chatterdale- chihuahua patterdale cross, which probably isn't that different from a Jack russel Chihuahua- actually I think patterdales are meant to be worse that JR's...

We got him from the RSPCA about a month ago, he was the last remaining from a litter of 7, and my dc's had set their heart on one of the brothers, but he had gone. This one was in a back room and they said he wasn't as pretty as the others.

He is about 8 months, so not a young puppy, but will never grow really big.

He has been absolutely brilliant.

No snapping, calm, settles very well , no whining at night, no accidents, yaps a bit, comes back on walks, very loving and soft. We went back to an open day at the RSPCA on
Sunday though, and someone who had one of the others said they were a total nightmare.
So , it could be luck of the draw.

I know some brilliant Jack russels.

dexter- Jack Russel Border terrier sounds gorgeous! What colour?
We had a border Lakeland cross as kids, - I love border terriers.

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/07/2008 17:29

how about a chalkie ? (chihuahua/yorkshire terrier cross) - teeny and very cute ! I had a Jack Russell and she was great but a handful.

nothernrefugee39 · 09/07/2008 17:44

Hi Mary

MaryAnnSingleton · 09/07/2008 19:40

hi northern ! our mutual friend F's friend Karen has the chalkie - it's handbag sized !

Desiderata · 09/07/2008 19:54

It's more the chihuahua bit I'd be worried about. They can be quite vicious.

Small dogs are not great with small kids, but the KC Charles Spaniel is constantly voted the best breed around children.

nothernrefugee39 · 09/07/2008 20:24

I remeber you telling me about the chalkie. Our litle chatterdale is small but not tiny. He is very comfortable for dd 3 to carry, and loves being carried; but loves being brave and fearless too.
he is gorgeous actually, we were quite lucky tho I think.
Desisrata, I agree about chihuahua bit, they can look cros quite alot of the time. If it's a nice terrie tho, the smiley bit can yake over. Our little one goes all soft, smiley and low if you know what I mean... very sweet he is too.

cheesesarnie · 10/07/2008 15:50

Jackihuahua?

If that's what you want. Some mongrels can be quite nice.

Lovesdogsandcats · 15/07/2008 15:02

Hi

I have a simply wonderful Jackahuahua. I am COMMITTED to this cross and have set up follwing website www.jackahuahua.net
please feel free to look and understand more of my feelings on this cross.

Like any breeding it is vital that people breed from sane, sound and well conformed parents. This is NOT a 'handbag' dog, far from it. My puppy walks every day and loves o go out and meet people. Children LOVE him and he has a little fan club here in the village.

You will never be lonley with a Jackahuahua. It is important to bear in mind that like ALL dogs they need to be introduced to children and they must learn commands to be gentle. It works the other way as well and children need to learn to respect a dog and his space.

Please feel free to log on at look at Max's blog which can be reached via the website.

CountryGirl2007 · 08/04/2010 16:48

Sorry, but you'd have to be a complete idiot to buy any of these designer crossbreeds.

What is the point? What is the difference between them and a mongrel or a crossbreed from a rescue? Is it because the one in the rescue is called for example a chihuahua x jack russel rather than a jackihuahua or some other ridiculous name?

And even though the majority of adult rescue dogs don't have any issues (greyhounds are a shining example of that!) you can always get a puppy from a rescue since unfortunatly there are so many idiots who let their dogs breed, and you can get a rough idea of the size they will grow to and the type of dog, especially if they are still with their mother.

Generally it is best to breed from dogs of sound temperament, but the individual dogs temperament depends more on it's upbringing rather than what it's parents were like.

I have a jackhuahua :) her name is Shiloh and she's now 6 months. I heard all the scare stories about this breed being snappy and everyone calling her a mutt. She's my mutt tho and with any dog with the right training is a treasure to our family! I have 3 children 9 6 and 4 and not once has she snapped! She loves cuddles and dispite her size needs alot of walks as she has the energy levels if a jack Russell. She has been so easy to train so please don't judge on the breed its all in the upbringing :)
