jackahuahua s anybody?

i have finally found a dog that dh and i agree on.which is amazing as hes not keen on any dogs.but i need to know more about them.anyone?

jack russel cross chihuahua?

I wouldn't, personally - 2 snappy terriers crossed together. But that's just me.

If you want a small dog, why not something more like a Bichon Frise - IME they're more kid-friendly than JRs

cheesesarnie i wd defo stay away from chihuahua cross jack russell esp if its to live with kids.bichons lovely,my fave recommendation from behaviour pt of view for families is cavalier king charles spaniel, has always been bred for temperament.fab with children.

If you are looking for a small dog i would suggest a KC Cavalier Spaniel. We have one and she is so friendly and affectionate. Never snappy, even when she is being poked and pulled by a 2 year old.

thanks.they do sound lovely as do the other suggestions.i dont think dh realises the jackhuahua we know is a puppy so mostly sleepy!he has never been keen on dogs so was odd to find one he liked!i dont think it will happen sadly ,i always had dogs around me growing up and loved it!

LOL I think i tempted myself. I just replied to an ad on gumtree about a chihuahua and llahsa apso and i pick them up on thursday.
I saw someone selling a jackahuahua in london for quite cheap and almost sent my oh down:|

The only caveat I would give is that when people invent these new "breeds" they tend to interbreed the first few, rather than just keep crossing JRTs/ Chihuahuas, which can lead to problems. Recently we had the "Yuchon" become popular (bichon frise/ yorkie) but they were closely bred and many developed behavioural problems. It really depends on how they are bred, but I think a lot of new breeds are a bit gimmicky, and people are paying a lot of money for what is, truth be told, a cross-breed dog! If it's a cross-breed you want you will find many varieties and styles at the local rescue centre!

It's funny isn't it? Cross breeds would have been totally rejected on the pedigree front, but now they have invented a whole new market. Our neighbour has a Papillon, and although I am not a fan of small dogs, she is very lovely.

What is wrong with you people?

Why would anybody in their right mine part with hundreds of pounds for a cross breed?

Christ on a bike, go to your local rehoming centre. Thousands of healthy cross breeds (and pedigrees) are destroyed every year yet, seemingly intelligent, people are supporting the immoral (imo) excessive breeding and interbreeding of dogs.

you are completly right.and fwiw i doubt we will ever get a dog anyway.nice dream but wont happen.and wanted to say all my pets have been rescue pets apart from the rabbit.

I'm sure I was being a little rude.

I said virtually the same thing to a good friend last week - she admitted she had ordered a 'cockerpoo', to which I replied I thought she was too intelligent to spend £500 on a cross breed. She confessed it actually cost more than that.

Am exasperated by the perpetuation of dog cruelty in the name of fashion.

Okay, If you read what was said. No one has actually bought a cross breed.
Anyway it doesnt matter what breed whether full or crossed an animal is, if they are the dog for you, and you have thought it through, then why not?
If you are lucky enough to go to a rehoming centre and find the right dog for you then why not.
From MY experiance, a dog that has been rehomed often has problems and for a lot of people a dog with problems, isnt the right dog for them.
After my dalmation died in Dec. I rehomed a labrador , who was so scared or everything she used to wee herself even when someone spoke to her. She attached herself to me and wouldnt take to anyone else. This cost me a lot of money. More than buying a full breed puppy or two. After spending money - the rehoming fee, training classes and further one on one classes, if my oh, sis, mum, dad neice (2 year old) came in, she would snap at them, eventually i was advised to crate train her, another £90 for the crate.
I evenytually had to give her back to the rehoming center, after she snapped my 2 yr old niece, who was playing on the floor with er peppa pig house and bothering no one.
Unfortunatly that experiance has put me off rehoming from a rescue centre ever again.

not to mention replacing my kitchen and bathroom floors after she ATE them. Nopt just ripped up, but swallowed!! lol

I agree that rehoming can be problematic if a dog has had difficult experiences, but I don't think that you should assume that buying from a breeder is going to be problem free, over breeding can cause all sorts of problems too, including temperamental ones.

We are on our second rescue dog and have had no problems with either.
Our first was a lurcher cross and he was a great big softy. He died at the grand old age of 16 and we now have a jack russell/border terrier cross.
We have had her for nearly 2 years now. She is never snappy and is very friendly with all the children who come round.
She has made great friends with both our cats and thinks she is one of them!
Currently she is asleep on my lap with the laptop on top of her!!
