Hello Kitty lovers!
I re-homed my Son's pregnant Cat.
I'm sure she had a week or so left!
I couldn't find her this morning, but she has an airtag around her collar so we were looking for the 'beep be beep bee bebeep' for ages! And there she is! Under my youngest's bed with FIVE little kittens!!!!!

This is all new to me!? How do I look after her/them? I've found a few threads on looking after a pregnant cat but can't find anything on post birth?

Advice would be appreciated!

Mum will look after them just make a nice comfy place for her to lie and feed her babies

Octavia64 · 01/03/2025 14:09

Mum looks after them.

Make her a nest and she'll be fine.

We put ours and her kittens in a little shower room.

MobHistory · 01/03/2025 14:10

Yes she seems comfortable. And it's nice a quiet she's purring away!

I don't even like cats! 🙄But I've known her since my son bought her home as a kitten.
She's the most affectionate and chilled Cat ever!

I'm totally converted. She's really adorable.

It’s not always that simple. You need to keep an eye on them all & watch out for Fading Kitten Syndrome in particular.

They’ll all need vaccinating & neutering when old enough & of course the mum will be need to be spayed once they’ve been weaned. I’m assuming she came pregnant to your son & that’s why he hadn’t taken care of it already? It’s important to know that girl kittens can get pregnant from 4 months onwards.

When they’re ready for rehoming, I’d see if you can pay a local rescue to advertise them & vet applicants for you. It’s the best way to make sure they all go to good homes.

EmpressaurusKitty · 01/03/2025 14:17

I’ve just seen the bit about your son bringing her home as a kitten? If she got pregnant because he hadn’t spayed her then for heavens’ sake give him a severe bollocking.

MobHistory · 01/03/2025 14:32

@EmpressaurusKitty Thank you, will look into the Fading Kitten Syndrome.

I'm furious with him. He brought her to His Grandparents house then pissed off to uni to live with his girlfriend who already had a Male cat!

My parents really liked her and her nature, but they are elderly.

He knows he's responsible for the neutering and vet stuff. The cost is his problem for being so irresponsible.

Kitten Lady on YouTube has some great videos about how to support a mum and kittens

MobHistory · 01/03/2025 14:35

I'll upload some pictures later if anyone would like.
We're all leaving her alone to nurse her babies. They are all VERY cute!

Thank you @MrsLeonFarrell , that's really helpful! I'll look into that also

Congrats on becoming a foster mum! While it’s true that mum cats essentially take over all the care themselves in the first month, there are a few things you can do to support them and make sure the kittens survive. Good sources of information are Youtube channels like TinyKittens, Kitten Lady and Kitten Academy.
Firstly, make sure they’re in a warm and secure nest - is under the bed a good spot or will mum find it too disruptive under DC‘s bed? Can you access the kittens there?
Secondly, the biggest threat to kittens not in the wild is failure to thrive, like human babies. Can you weigh them? A good birth weight is around 100grams / 4 ounces. They should ideally gain a few grams every single day. The other advantage of weighing them is that it gets them used to human handling right from birth.
Thirdly, you need to make sure the mum is getting as much high-quality and calorie food as possible to keep her milk production up.
They should start self-weaning and using a litter tray after about four weeks, so you’ll need some kitten food then. Before that point the mum will lick their bums to keep them clean (delightful!).
Hope it all works out with the new family!

I strongly believe in neutering & my cat is neutered, but I would secretly love surprise kittens 🐈‍⬛. Congratulations, please post some pics!

MobHistory · 01/03/2025 16:46

@LadyGreySpillsTheTea Thank you for that advice!
I don't want to weigh them just yet, I'm frightened she will reject them if I go poking about iyswim?

She's a little nest I've made and she seems content in that.
I've moved her too, so I can keep an eye on her, she's doing dead on so far!

Beautiful! Prepare yourself for manic kitties in a month or so lol 😂

PorridgeOatsSuck · 01/03/2025 16:51

Oh my, the kits are sweet but mum is glorious 😍

MrsSkylerWhite · 01/03/2025 16:51

Mum will do the looking after. Provide them with a warm, safe hiding place (airing cupboard?) plenty of nourishing food and water for mum.
Our daughter found washable fleeces with absorbent puppy pads underneath really helpful in keeping things clean.

MobHistory · 01/03/2025 16:55

@PorridgeOatsSuck We're really lucky! She's a lovely nature and very loving! She loves being petted all the time It also helps that she's incredibly cute.

Gingernaut · 01/03/2025 16:55

Looks like you're going to have a load of vets bills when you have to factor in all the neutering that's got to be done

It's tragic your son failed to neuter Biscoff and she got pregnant

MobHistory · 01/03/2025 16:56

@CatsWhiskerz I must be mental. I actually like the sound of that.

MelainesLaugh · 01/03/2025 16:59

Oh my goodness they are gorgeous! That little black and white one is lovely.

Of course I’d be telling your son how irresponsible he’s been, but goodness they are cute

Why? Our daughter’s cat had one litter (escaped before neutering). She’s a much loved pet and her kittens went to loving homes close by. Mum is now neutered. She sees her offspring out and about most days.

There are too many strays but these kittens are clearly well cared for. It’s unlikely OP will have bills for neutering. That should not be done until the cats are 6 months old, by which time they are likely to have new homes.

MobHistory · 01/03/2025 17:00

@Gingernaut It is tragic isn't it.
My son knows the consequences and the cost of being a bloody irresponsible idiot.
