Hello Kitty lovers!
I re-homed my Son's pregnant Cat.
I'm sure she had a week or so left!
I couldn't find her this morning, but she has an airtag around her collar so we were looking for the 'beep be beep bee bebeep' for ages! And there she is! Under my youngest's bed with FIVE little kittens!!!!!

This is all new to me!? How do I look after her/them? I've found a few threads on looking after a pregnant cat but can't find anything on post birth?

Advice would be appreciated!

I'm pretty sure the males can be neutered much earlier than the females, it's well before 6months for the boys. Sorry lads ✂

We were strongly advised not to with our latest bot, now 11. Were told it was likely to stunt his growth
(of course, that advice may have changed since then).
He would also not neuter our 3 girls, now 2 1/2 years old, before 6 months.

Those scissors made me wince 😸

The only reason vets don’t do early neutering in this country is that their insurance doesn’t cover them. Early neutering is only an issue with dogs, not cats.
Lots of charities neuter kittens at 6 weeks all around the world, including in England.
OP will hopefully be able to rehome them and will only have to spay their mum.

Oh dear, sorry!

Just seen Mama cat has a collar on - I'd take it off just in case any kits get caught up!

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 01/03/2025 23:10

Keep an eye on mum as if she's feeding 6 babies she will need loads of food otherwise she'll lose weight.

My friend was told to feed her nursing mum cat kitten food as it's got more calories in it.

I don't think you're responsible for neutering the kittens just the mum cat and making sure the kittens go to responsible homes.

EmpressaurusKitty

The PDSA, RSPCA & Cats Protection all say it can be done from 4 months if necessary, which it might be if someone has a mixed litter

“If necessary” is far from ideal.

At 4 months, OP’s are likely to be rehomed. If in an house where they haven’t been, it’s not that difficult to separate them in different rooms for a couple of months.
Neutering before 6 months is not best practice or in the cat’s best interest: We have been advised by several vets over many decades of cat ownership. It can stunt the growth of male kittens in particular.

After 6 months, of course neutering is absolutely necessary.

(Don’t like to disagree with a fellow feline lover 😺)

I bet we both agree on the importance of finding good homes for the kittens where they’ll be loved, secure & the owners will neuter them though!

Hi! Little update. Mumma and Babies are doing really well!
I took the children out all day yesterday to give her a break.

Still five kittens, Two Tabby's, two black (one has socks) and a black and white one!

I'll try and take more individual pictures when I give them a weigh later.

Thank you all for the advice so far!

I did mention we're not cat people?

I've just caught the husband petting her and he's calling her 'Bisk'

'hello girl! You're a good girl aren't you bisk! Yes! You are aren't you' 🙄. Tart! 😄

I'll upload some pictures later if anyone would like.
We're all leaving her alone to nurse her babies. They are all VERY cute!

Once staying at a house in the freezing North of England with friends friends for the weekend, a female cat came in, sat by my feet, in front of the open fire, purring and rolled over and a tiny kitten popped out!
The house owner found a box 📦 and lined it with paper and a rug and let her carry on..

The house owner hadn’t bothered to get her spayed!

Cats get pregnant very young indeed.

oakleaffy · 03/03/2025 12:41

@MobHistory A cat rescue will ensure they get responsible homes-
Don’t let them go to just anyone.

Kittens are gorgeous, and massive impulse purchases- but the potential owners need to be in it for the long haul.

MobHistory · 03/03/2025 13:01

@oakleaffy Absolutely placed in Responsible homes. They're far too precious to give to anyone! But I'm not thinking so far ahead just yet and just making sure Mumma gets what she needs nutrient wise.

Dizzywizz · 16/03/2025 07:40

Omg they are adorable! Mum looks happy too

VouisLuitton · 14/04/2025 19:23

How are the little ones and Biscoff doing @MobHistory ?

Madthings · 14/04/2025 19:45

Aww gorgeous.

Re neutering my 4 month old kittens have just been neutered and I got a voucher from RSPCA. We have a boy and a girl, siblings from same litter.

I was never going to get pets.. but my colleagues cat had kittens, she sent a photo which I showed to my teenager who then launched a campaign. We were just going to get the girl but fell in love with the boy too when we visited. 🙄 it was good getting a pair as they sleep together, play together etc. We brought them home at 9 weeks old and am sure it helped they were together. Our vet said they could neuter once they were 2kg and especially as we had a boy and a girl it was essential.

Ours are house cats as paranoid re roads but we have lots of space, indoor climbing ladder etc and they seem very happy.

And the 17 yr old he didn't like cats is their biggest fan. They are like therapy kittens for my autistic, pda 8 yr old and have helped his tourettes.

I did grow up with pets myself hence why I said no for years as I know the work and commitment involved. But they really are the best thing in the world.

Glad yours are doing well and hope they continue to thrive. Make sure you have extra litter trays once they grow a bit bigger.

We use edgard and cooper kitten food for ours,a mix of wet and dry. I did a bit of research into food, can't afford a totally fresh meat diet for them but this brand seemed to be good not made of all the discarded processed stuff like some brands are.

I would try and make one room kitten proof to begin with and keep them in there once they start moving around, they can squeeze into the smallest of gaps, will chew etc. I usd to block off under my oven and they even tried to get into my walk mounted combi boiler. We let them explore one room for a few weeks before then giving them move access to rest of the house and now at 4 months they are free to go anywhere in house and very confident content crazy kittens!

@VouisLuitton Oh my good grief!! They have their own little personalities and they are SO much fun! Even to watch! And Biscoff is just so timid! She’s a really lovely cat!

@Madthings Thank you for the advice! And I’m glad you are enjoying your kittens! I’m going to have a hard time letting them go. (Might keep them all!!)

I’m sniggering at the come of shame on your kitty’s!
