Science plan - so/so food for cats - there are better ones out there, there are worse ones.

Iams - known to cause urinary stones in male cats

Gocat - OMG just steer well clear. Is cat fruitshoots/crack cocaine and will kill them.

Royal Canin - their neutered young male food is good. Contains protection against stones/getting fat etc. (Bizarely, with the royal canin food you feed the male formulation to males and if you have male/female in the same house. if all females, feed the female formulation). I don't know about their kitten food.

I have a previous post on this somewhere. I will look for it

They are probably scared after their move. Just feed them and water them and they will come to you when they feel secure. Am very would love kittens.

DumbledoresGirl · 12/02/2008 19:28

This sounds familiar. When we got our kittens they were 3 months old and spent a lot of time behind the fridge. They never played. Even now, they are not what I would call value for money. The other day, I literally did not see one of them for 48 hours! They spend all day outside and only come in for food. They also growl at each other (brothers).

I hate to say it cod, but if you wanted playful running up the curtains etc, you should have got younger kittens.

Our pain-in-the-neck kitten spent her first few days behind the sofa - at one point she seemed to have vanished completely but was actually inside some bit of the sofa we didn't know we had (also found pens, batteries, a tamagotchi). They'll start being kitteney soon and then you'll wish they were still hiding .

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 12/02/2008 22:22

cod - kittens they will chill soon do not worry they are not duffers

do not feed those pouches - tonnes of shit ( sorry but true) and foul smelling - give science diet

its very early days

pointydog · 12/02/2008 22:29

what's wrong with pouches? My cat loves pouches so much I'm sure there's msg in them. Really - what's wrong with pouches?

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 12/02/2008 22:33

just not recommended by vets

not good for teeth for a start which in turn not good for heart
high protein - a lot of very smelly faeces is another reason not to use

pointydog · 12/02/2008 22:37

she gets dried once a day too, to help her teeth. Hmmm.

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 12/02/2008 22:40

will ask vet for blurb...

PaulaYatesbiggestFan · 12/02/2008 22:42

says dental disease! pouches fine for treats!

pointydog · 12/02/2008 22:44

you have a vet in the house, yates?

redadmiral · 12/02/2008 22:44

A breeder showed me an article about Hill's. Here's a link to a similar one:

www.ramesescats.co.uk/page14/page56/index.html

Basically the preservative they have used is suspect, and last I heard they were still using it.
I like Royal Canin, but my vet said give some wet food too to prevent urinary problems.

HeatherMills · 12/02/2008 22:48

yes pointy - he is steam stripping next door!

Am so jealous about kittens

We had a male and female kitten.

Male was fab - affectionate, very funny but quite obviously insane. Terrorised dogs and sat in the middle of the road and expected all the cars to stop for him. Had to remove him off the road one day to clear a huge traffic jam after he sat in front of an enormous lorry and wouldn't budge...

one day a car didnt stop for him.

Female was very timid and a bit boring. No road sense either. Same fate.

Not getting any more cats. Guinea pigs don't need road sense. I hope.

My advice is to keep them inside if you can stand it. Or you live 3 miles away from the nearest road.

What doom and gloom! Enjoy them cod

pointydog · 13/02/2008 08:48

that's handy, mills/yates. Bad news about dental disease, though. I wonder if every tea time could be considered a treat...

They sound like the new kitten in "Goodbye Mog"

berolina · 13/02/2008 09:05

oh, kittens

They will settle. We had two scared kittens (boygirl too) in my student houseshare. They did settle, and spent long hours curled up together on the end of my bed. Happy days.
