If your cat was outside and you shouted it in...

Would it run home?

Obviously it depends on whether it's hungry or just ignoring you but on average?

Not always.
DH has a magic noise he makes, a sort of high pitched squeaky whistle that always seems to bring them running. Maybe it sounds like a small animal in distress and they come to see what's happening!

Twinsmummy1812 · 28/02/2023 09:41

Yes usually, unless they don’t want to. If I can see them and call them I can tell when they are purposely ignoring me. It’s hilarious. Love cats

drinkallthecoffee · 28/02/2023 09:43

Every time

TheAdmiralAndFishermanFavorEntirelyDifferentPies · 28/02/2023 09:44

Mine are trained to a whistle, which is slightly less embarrassing.

One - definitely.
Two - only if she felt like it and then only after a suitable pause to let you know its only because she feels like it and that being ordered around is beneath her.
Three - never.

drinkallthecoffee · 28/02/2023 09:44

I have a whistle that I use to call them

drinkallthecoffee · 28/02/2023 09:44

Not a physical whistle I mean just a sound I make 😂

BooksAndHooks · 28/02/2023 09:45

We have to shake the treat tin.

JL642 · 28/02/2023 09:46

Maybe. If my cat decided on her terms that she fancied obeying me in that moment. Otherwise she’s turn the other way and ignore me. Sassy.

Soproudoflionesses · 28/02/2023 09:47

Yes because he is a greedy sod

HappyBirthdayLydia · 28/02/2023 09:47

We just shout Dreamies and they're in like a rocket!

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 28/02/2023 09:47

One would if he wanted to, the other one is rarely out (through choice) but would come in if she wanted to and you opened the correct door.

SallyWD · 28/02/2023 09:47

Usually - or he might just run up to me but not come in if he's enjoying being outside.
We have a cat flap so I never need to call him in anyway.

torquewench · 28/02/2023 09:48

BooksAndHooks · 28/02/2023 09:45

We have to shake the treat tin.

Yep. I shake the tub/packet of Dreamies and they appear like a genie out of a bottle 😹

Unexpectedbaby · 28/02/2023 09:49

Most of the time, yes.

If they don't at first I just shake a pack of dreamies and can hear them jumping over the surrounding fences

PopGoesTheProsecco · 28/02/2023 09:49

Not a chance! But if we shout 'Dreamies' she runs in faster than a cheetah.

Nottodaty · 28/02/2023 09:50

Mine sits meowing outside the door - I open door it literally laughs and turns the other way walking away.

It wouldn’t come in even with a shake of a Dreamies packet.

louise5754 · 28/02/2023 09:51

Ah I was thinking my cat was clever!! 😂😂

OP posts:
Pascha · 28/02/2023 09:51

Most of the time yes but often no if its dusk and we've been late calling them back for the night. Having far too much fun tormenting rodents.

saltwater1985 · 28/02/2023 09:57

Mine does, but he's a weirdo.
Uses the catflap during the day but in the night time I have to go downstairs (if he's meowing outside) and physically open the back door because he suddenly becomes incapable of using the flap 🙄

LondonJax · 28/02/2023 10:00

Only if I add 'food' to the shout!

PlatinumBrunette · 28/02/2023 10:03

Yep, always. 2 know their names, 1 hasn’t a clue but comes when I call the others. He’d also come if I called any random name, which is fun! I also have a ‘sound’ they all come running to.
The dog? Nope 🙄 Mind you, she’s deaf now so uses that as an excuse.

KatnissNeverdone · 28/02/2023 10:04

Nope. One of my cats won't come in even if he's sat there crying at the door wanting to come in. He just saunters off if I have the audacity to open the door. If I go out to put something in the bin however, he'll dart in and trip me up.

MayMiracle · 28/02/2023 10:07

90% of the time yes, she races back and miaows crossly that you took so long.

She only really likes being outside on warm, dark evenings. On these rare evenings, not a chance she comes when called.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 28/02/2023 10:10

The Bottomless Pit, usually if he is within hearing distance and he thought food was on offer

The Princess, only when she wants to

Rinkydinkydoodle · 28/02/2023 10:15

One always comes as soon as I whistle (he’s done it since he was let outside at 12 weeks old, he’s also very bright). DCD is a stop-out and comes about half of the time. Or else comes, miaows hello from the wall, then buggers straight off again. Like another PP’s cat she can’t work cat-flap in the dark either but stands outside wailing for the door to open like tiny fozzy Cilla 🧐
