My cat has become clingy and annoying - why?

PavlovtheCat · 20/01/2008 22:09

We have two cats brother and sister, aged 2.5. Also have 18mth old DD.

Both cats have adjusted to new addition of baby to household. They accepted their relegated status with grace and typical cat aloofness.

However, for the last 3 days the female cat has been a right royal pain. Constantly following me into the kitchen and mewwing like she wants to be fed, although she had clean bowl, full of food, fresh water, also checked her litter tray, clean, cat flap open so has access outside. She has started climbing on us at inappropriate times, like eating dinner, or jumping on the kitchen sides, which she ha never done previously, she is currently sitting next to me, staring at me, with one paw on my arm, and cute as it is, its unusual....

She looks healthy, appears to be eating and drinking well, good coat, clear eyes, and is purring while staring at me...

Any ideas?

I say following me into the kitchen, in fact, she is following me everywhere, getting under my feet and almost tripping me, jumping on banisters and almost falling off desperately trying to get my attention.

is she pregnant?

PavlovtheCat · 20/01/2008 22:19

She was neutured/spayed (sp) at 6months so she should not be! But is defintiely behaving oddly.

Maybe phantom pregnancy?

She sounds like my cat has been the last few days. Perhaps there's something in the air?

KatyMac · 20/01/2008 22:27

Are you pregnant - my cat wouldn't leave me alone when i was

NutterlyUts · 20/01/2008 22:27

Are you pregnant?

PavlovtheCat · 20/01/2008 22:28

Twinkle! = [waves] how are you?

Its odd behaviour isnt it? I love her to bits and she is always a bit soppy but its got stupid now, and quite annoying. Her brother is not like it.

They have been fighting recently tho, the two cats, maybe she is upset?

ooh cannot wait to hear the answers here as my cat has been like this too for the past week or so.

Twinklemegan · 20/01/2008 22:31

Mine always gets into bed with us, but the last few days she's been really annoying about it. I've been poorly though so my annoyance threshold might just be lower. Hi Pavlov!

BecauseImWorthIt · 20/01/2008 22:31

Constantly hungry/asking for food? Have you tried worming her?

Mine is too, has been for a few months. Always under my feet, jumps on a lap at every opportunity, also asking for food constantly (that's prob worms though )

PavlovtheCat · 20/01/2008 22:33

No, I am not pregnant, well am pretty sure I am not! Given that I have the contraceptive implant (please dont tell me I can get pregnant with it in, really...!).
You pregnant Twinkle?

tudorrose · 20/01/2008 22:33

are you pregnant? sounds daft but my cat definately knew i was with dd2 before i did! he showed the same behaviour as your cat and was a right pain in the neck, if i stood on him once i did it a hundred times poor thing! the really scary thing was he knew when things were going wrong and would not leave me alone. luckily all was fine but i swear to this day he knew and was trying to help! [mad woman] he is doing it again now dd3 due officially in 5 weeks but this cat is like a shadow again.better pack my bag quick i think! and i so dont believe in all this nonsense but....

CarGirl · 20/01/2008 22:34

think yourselves lucky our cat is like that permenantly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PavlovtheCat · 20/01/2008 22:36

Because - she is overdue her worming by a week or two, but surely she could not have worms this quickly. Also, tbh altough she is pestering for food - she is not actually eating it, she is not actually hungry, eating the normal amount, just acting like she does when she is hungry.

Twinklemegan · 20/01/2008 22:37

You know Pavlov, I am absolutely, one hundred percent sure that I'm not

PavlovtheCat · 20/01/2008 22:39

Oh dear, now I am worried I might be pregnant!!!! hehe!

Meg - the cat - is very perceptive, when DD was sick in her bed a few months ago she was outside the door before she was crying, pestering to go in, and she often jumps off the end of our bed and sits outside her bedroom door just before she wakes up, or comes to us, and fusses.

She is a fussy cat from time to time, and does get under our feet from time to time, but this is a permanent state right now....

I am going to worm her anyway tomorrow and see if that makes an improvement.

Twinkle - so was I until this thread LOL!! .

OP posts:
Twinklemegan · 20/01/2008 22:41

lol, mine's called Megan (hence my name).

Twinklemegan · 20/01/2008 22:41

It'd be the immaculate conception here, honestly

PavlovtheCat · 20/01/2008 22:49

I was going to call her Megan, but we knew a friend who just called their DD megan so thought it would not be proper! So we called her Nutmeg instead as she is a brown tortoiseshell. Sort of nutmeg colour. Ish.

The other one is called Polo, firstly because my DH had a WV Polo which he loved, and also because he has a hole in the head, and is black and white....teneous I know!

Twinklemegan · 20/01/2008 22:52

"a hole in the head"??? My other one's called Jenna.

PavlovtheCat · 20/01/2008 22:54

A bit dense. Sorry, DHs odd humour!
