Has anyone ever regretted getting a cat?

Really interesting reading in the dog thread. I was expecting prevalent "no".

Is there the sane sentiment for cats? Or are they easier to fit to your life?

Much much easier to fit into your life. Absolutely no regrets.

I regret it sometimes when I have to cut the fur off his bottom and it's matted all his fur Envy (not envy)

I regret getting my cat for one reason..... she brings dead rats, mice, rabbits and birds in daily. I’m constantly finding mice heads in the garden too. I’ve never had a cat that has bought so many ‘gifts’ other than that she’s lovely but I’m looking forward to the day she decides to stop catching and killing things 🙈

Northernsoullover · 01/06/2020 19:02

I had a beautiful cat. So sweet and good tempered. Never brought anything home (we won't mention fleagate). When he departed I moved in with my friend and her cat. He was Satan in tabby fur. If I was sat minding my own business it would take a swipe at me. Its put me off ever getting another cat Sad

chunkyrun · 01/06/2020 19:03

I regret only getting one

Hopefulmidwife · 01/06/2020 19:08

I don't regret my cat at all, he helped me through a tough stage of anxiety. However, he's a house cat and he's almost turned into a dog rather than a cat because of this somehow. It seems to be more hard work as a house cat. He's unsociable and not a lap cat but he does rule our life 😂 I think one day when we have babies etc I think he'll be difficult and jealous

I’m in the process of adopting a 5 year old who got chucked out of her home because she didn’t get on with their lockdown puppy. She was adopted as a kitten, given a dumb name and then seen as expendable. I doubt I will regret her but sometimes you have to just let them be and not judge them if they don’t live up to your expectations. Knocking on wood now.

the first cat me and DH owned we were obsessed with. He had a lovely nature and was genuinely a funny little character. He died unfortunately at 5 years old and we were absolutely gutted. Our current cat we got as a kitten when DD was a baby. I do regret getting her tbh. She’s a sweet looking little thing but she’s quite annoying in her habits. Gets under my feet. Clings to my knee and digs claws in. Wants to be in, out, in, out, all the time (unable to install cat flap) Cries for food then refuses to eat it. we switch food brands which she’ll eat for a while then target refusing that too. We meet her needs but she doesn’t get as much attention from us as she deserves and I don’t have a great deal of affection for her. DD is now starting to play with her a bit though. DH wouldn’t let me rehome her even though I had a friend who was happy to take her on.

Absolutely no regrets, cats are fairly independent and dont require the same level of work as dogs.

I do, we have cats and a dog, with the cats you can’t just go away for a few days without arranging a cattery or someone to come in, with the dog she is more portable and goes everywhere with us.

I want to move house however the cats are now 9 and spent more of their time outside so this impacts where we can move to. The cats have also caused more damage with their claws.

But I say this as I work from home, if I didn’t the cats would be the easiest of the two and less of a worry because they do tend to do their own thing and the dog is much more needing of our attention.

Yearcat13 · 01/06/2020 19:23

Never. They are so easy to be a slave too. If you are away for a weekend someone can call to feed them. Only thing I dont like is the litter tray but it's hardly a hardship. Cats are the perfect pet. Though they do very in personality, my current rescue is very friendly and lives sitting on my lap. Had less friendly ones but even they are a welcome addition.

Chillipeanuts · 01/06/2020 19:24

No, 5 cats later (over 32 years!) not for a second.
Regret the dog. Care for her, obviously.

amillionnamechangeslater000 · 01/06/2020 19:25

I’ve had cats and dogs - and though I’ve never regretted any of my pets, would imagine, as long as you wanted a cat in the first place, you’re far less likely to have “buyers remorse” like you might with say a puppy.
Theyre just so much easier to look after.

ProperVexed · 01/06/2020 19:26

How could I regret this?

LordGarmadon · 01/06/2020 19:28

Never!

People who regret getting a cat obviously have a stone cold heart.

Oldestchild90s · 01/06/2020 19:29

Never ever. Can't stand people who just stop loving their animals one day, maybe it's not the cat/dog that's the problem it's the human 😂

Lamentations · 01/06/2020 19:29

Not a bit. Easy Peasy to look after, not too expensive and nice to have in the house only some of the time.

WiryTail · 01/06/2020 19:30

Never. I love them.

madcatladyforever · 01/06/2020 19:34

Nope, I'm on number 6 now and they've all lived to almost 20. Current DCat is 19 and the last of that lot.
i cannot bear to live in a house with no cat in it.
She's currently sitting in front of a full length mirror admiring herself in it. Later she will be asking me to lift her onto surfaces she can't reach as she can't jump high any more.
She has some disgusting habits but I still love her with all of my heart.

RandomMess · 01/06/2020 19:34

Occasionally and my next ones will be a breed that mots fat fat far less...

PiggyPlumPie · 01/06/2020 19:34

There was a point after a couple of weeks when he was a little shit - very bitey and most of the family were losing patience but he soon settled down.

Wouldn't be without him and I thought I was a dog person!

I don't regret ours at all - big gorgeous furry beast who is a huge stupid character and we love to bits. DC loves him too, and all children who visit.

With all that said, I'm not actually sure we would get another after he's gone. He is so loud and shouty. Lots of cat hair everywhere and cat vom to clean up Envy Expensive insurance as they get older. Might just play with the neighbours' ones instead, no cat shortage around here.

Basically, I love our particular cat but I'm not 100% sure what the point of him is Grin

RainbowCookie7 · 01/06/2020 19:38

Yes, I had a male who sprayed on everything in the house. He cost me a fortune, he peed on the toaster, plug sockets, bean bags, walls, anything new that came in the house - bags, clothes etc etc.

TankGirl97 · 01/06/2020 19:39

We do slightly regret our cat. We've had other cats in the past so knew what we were letting ourselves in for. We got a rescue kitten and he's just a bit rubbish! So unfriendly and skittish. Never a stroke or cuddle or sit on my lap allowed. He eats, occasionally voms on the floor and leaves. 3+ years we've had him and he's marginally more affectionate now so I have a slim hope when he'll gradually be more friendly. I feel sorry for him really, and we do try. I'd never re-home him though.

Grasspigeons · 01/06/2020 19:40

I regret the colour of my cats fur. I had 4 short haired black cats and a tabby over the years. The current cat is white and fluffier and the hair shows up on everything but particularly black trousers just as you walk out the door
